You should have confronted them
Author's pov
"Daisy, do you think I'm blind? Do you think I can't tell when two people are flirting? I saw your dad and your best friend, Sadie , at the bar, laughing uncontrollably," Juliana said, as they sat in the living room. She paused, keeping her gaze fixed on Daisy.
"I..."
"Don't say anything. You're making me angry," Juliana interrupted.
"But you haven't let me say anything again," Daisy protested.
"I don't want you to say anything anymore," Juliana said, and walked towards her room angrily.
"What did I do now?" Daisy wondered, still confused by her mother's anger.
"I only suggested that if you were sure they were behaving the way you suspected, you should have approached them and let them know you saw them. My point is, why can't my mum approach them? Instead of just standing at a distance and accusing Sadie and my dad. She didn't even give me a chance to explain. Just because she has feelings for my dad doesn't mean any woman with him is involved romantically. How can I tell Sadie about these accusations? It's embarrassing. She came to greet me, and because of my mum, I can't be with my friend. I dare not tell Sadie what my mum is insinuating."
Daisy sat down in the living room, contemplating how she could talk to her mum about what had been said. The more she hesitated, the more she wondered why her mum hadn't confronted Sadie and her dad directly.
Meanwhile, as Juliana entered her room and sat on her bed, then she stood up and paced around, lost in thought.
"Why doesn't Daisy believe what I told her? She said I should have gone and talked to her dad. But I wasn't alone, Gabriel was with me. I can't go and confront Justin and Sadie and embarrass them. What if Gabriel shows up and sees me with Justin and Sadie ? How will I introduce him? As what? My boyfriend? What will Justin think of me? I don't want to introduce Gabriel just yet. How should I handle this?" Juliana leaned her head back against the wall, continuing her train of thought.
"My daughter has been urging me to come with him to Justin's housewarming as a way to celebrate Justin's achievement. Don't I think this would be the perfect opportunity to bring Gabriel with me? Daisy and I had agreed to observe Justin carefully and see the woman he's been dating. I'm sure he'll invite her. Don't I think that once he introduces that lady, I can introduce Gabriel immediately?" Her thoughts were interrupted by a knock on the door. She looked up and waited for a moment before saying,
"Come in.”
Juliana moved away from the wall and walked closer to the bed, her expression filled with sadness.
"Mum, I'm really sorry for what I said about Sadie and Dad. I..."
"Wait, you were trying to say something in the living room before I interrupted you. What were you going to say?"
"Mum, I didn't want to upset you."
"Not saying it will upset me. You were trying to make a point about Sadie and Justin."
"Well... Sadie 's phone got damaged, and yesterday Dad took her to the store to buy a new one. I think Sadie was very happy about the new phone and also because Dad was willing to take her out. I've already made plans for Sadie to come here later in the evening and stay with me."
"I... I think that will be difficult. It would be too painful for me to constantly be reminded of their laughter if Sadie is here. I can't live with those thoughts."
"But Mum, what can I do now? I've already told her. It would seem like I'm rejecting her."
"You heard me clearly. I believe nothing was happening between Sadie and Justin. But having her here is something I can't bear. I just explained how it would disturb me. Don't I have the right to my own opinion? This is my house, for crying out loud."
"What should I tell my friend then?"
"Which is more important to you, your mum's emotional well-being or your relationship with your friend?" Juliana's question hung in the air, causing the room to fall silent as they looked at each other.
"Daisy, I'm waiting," Juliana prompted, but suddenly Daisy began to smile.
"This isn't something to smile about. Which is more important?"
"Oh, before I forget, you left your phone on the table in the living room, and someone named Gabriel sent you a message."
The moment Daisy mentioned Gabriel and mentioned a message, Juliana already knew what kind of message Gabriel might have sent.
"Who told you to read my message?" Juliana tried to sound stern, but Daisy's smile wouldn't fade.
"What's the message about?" Juliana softened her expression, but Daisy, this time, chuckled.
"Why aren't you explaining it to me, Daisy?"
"Mum, I should be asking you. You were the one keeping things from me. Is Gabriel your boyfriend?" Daisy asked, and silence filled the room once again. Juliana, who had been sitting, suddenly stood up and paced around as if searching for something. When she reached the mirror and looked at herself, she said,
"Your dad never appreciated me," Juliana sighed, holding her hair as she tried to distract herself. Eventually, she picked up a comb and started combing her hair. Daisy watched silently, and after a few minutes, she walked up to her mom and stood behind her.
"Can I see his face?" Daisy smiled, showing her support for her mom's decision. When her mom remained hesitant, she added, "My dad has moved on. I understand everything. I'm not against it, and I'm ready to support you. Will you bring him to the housewarming party?"
"I wanted to, but I don't want Justin to see him or set eyes on him," Juliana replied.
"In that case, I will take him from your hands and treat him as a special guest," Daisy offered.
"Really?" Juliana asked.
"Yes. But do you love this man?"
"Well... for now, we are good friends."
"But from what he sent to you, he cares a lot about you. Let me go and get the phone so you can see what he wrote," Daisy said before Juliana could stop her. She rushed out of the room, leaving Juliana to contemplate her mistake of leaving without her phone and why Gabriel kept sending her messages.
"Why did I make such a big mistake of leaving without taking my phone? Why does Gabriel keep messaging me?" Juliana wondered, her thoughts interrupted when Daisy returned, holding the phone in her hand and prepared to read aloud the message.
"Don't worry, give me my phone. For now, I'm still observing him, and I don't want to call him right away. I don't want to appear as if I've fallen for him. So, I won't call him now," Juliana decided.
"Okay, Mum," Daisy responded. As she was about to leave the room, Juliana reminded her, "Before I forget, don't let Sadie come here. Please, I don't have anything against her. I wouldn't lie to you, but her presence will remind me of their laughter."
"Okay, Mum," Daisy replied. Just as she was about to exit the room, she turned back and asked, "When will I be leaving here, Mum?"
"Anytime, but it should be after this week. That doesn't mean you can't visit me, though."
"Sure! I'll always visit you," Daisy smiled, then she left her mom's room and closed the door behind her.

Sadie 's pov
Today has been one of my busiest days, starting from the morning until now as I take my bath. The cold water from the shower soaked me, and it gave me a chance to reflect on how my day went. It's a beautiful evening, and I didn't need to ask Justin to spend the past night in my room. We both knew it might be a while before we could see each other again. I'm not sure what Daisy has planned for me. Although Justin and I had made plans to meet whenever possible, I wondered if Daisy would follow me or if she wouldn't give us the opportunity. It was the first time Justin and I had sex during the day. Usually, it's in the morning or at night, but we wanted to cherish each other as we knew we would miss one another so much.
I let the running shower continue to pour water, and the coldness helped me calm down. The time was getting closer, and I was expecting a call from Daisy. I had done what she asked me to do, cooking different dishes and keeping them in the fridge for her dad. I didn't do it because Justin was Daisy's favorite. Honestly, I did it because I am in love with Justin. Love makes you do things for your partner.
I was about to step out of the bathroom when my phone started ringing. I quickly dried my hands and face, seeing that it was Daisy calling. I already knew what she was going to say.
"Hi Daisy, I'm finished, and I'm waiting for you," I said, and there was silence on the other end.
"Daisy? Daisy? Are you there?" I asked, but all I heard from Daisy was,
"Sadie , I'm sorry. I don't think I can come and pick you up. Something came up."
"What came up?" I asked.
"I mean, I don't think you can stay at my mom's house for now. I just wanted to apologize to you first, but I can't hide anything from you. My mom told me she saw you with my dad at a bar..." she paused, and a wave of intense shock passed through me. She continued,
"My mom has decided..." Another pause, and my heart raced again.
"Tell me, Daisy..." I spoke softly.
"My mom suspects you. But I tried to convince her that nothing is going on between the two of you. I explained to her that that day my dad went to buy a phone for you. I know it's all my fault. I convinced you to come back. Don't worry, Sadie , my mom is just jealous. I think she still has feelings for my dad. Are you angry?" she asked, just as Justin walked into my room.
"I'm not angry, but this wasn't what I was expecting from anything. Please call me back. You just broke my heart," I ended the call. As I lowered the phone from my ear, Justin noticed my expression and quickly asked,
"What's wrong?"
I tapped my heart, feeling my racing heartbeat.
"What is it?" Justin tried to hold me, but I gently pushed hi
m away and was thinking, what if Daisy never defended me in my absence?
