Sadie’s POV

It was clear that my heart had fully decided to be with Justin. Life is short, and love is both sweet and necessary. Justin had promised to keep our relationship a secret. When he asked me about Paul, I couldn't help but open up to him.

"Paul and I were friends back in college, and he has been asking me out," I said. He pulled me closer, and whenever Justin pressed his waist against mine, I felt confused. It was as if his touch had control over my thoughts and feelings.

"Justin, there's no one like you. I've never loved anyone the way I love you. Whenever I see you or hear your voice, my whole body gravitates towards you. I..." My words were interrupted as he placed his lips on mine, and we started kissing. My eyes closed instinctively, and I felt myself becoming aroused once again.

Is this the man Justina never appreciated? No one can resist his touch and the way he kisses. Then my phone rang again, and this time it was Paul calling. The more he called, the further my heart drifted away from him.

I had finally made up my mind, and I was ready to love Justin for the time being. I tried to push thoughts of the future out of my mind, but from Justin's attitude, it seemed like he wanted us to be together forever. He was so infatuated with me that he whispered in my ear,
"I love to bathe you."

"Really?" I chuckled and replied, "Not now, Daisy might come home at any time. What if she walks in on us in the bath?"
"Then I'll take you out, and we can stay in one of these hotels."

That morning, we went to the kitchen together, and he even wore my apron while I helped him put his on. We prepared my favorite meal, and there was nothing more loving than that. We laughed at little things, and I wished we were already a couple.

After we finished cooking, we ate together, and I remember him feeding me more than five times. Just as we were about to finish eating, Justin received a call. After the call, he said to me,
"I need to see someone, and this meeting is very important." Then, for the second time, he asked, "I'm going to take a bath. Won't you come with me?"

The first thing that came to mind was Daisy, and I repeated what I had said before.
"What if Daisy comes while we're bathing? Take me to a hotel. I'll be more comfortable there.”
He smiled and got up, giving me a quick kiss on my forehead before heading to his room to take a bath.

After about thirty minutes, I was in my room when I heard a knock on the door.
"Come in," I said. Justin entered, dressed up and ready to leave.
"I'm about to go," he said.
"When will you be back?" I asked him as if he was my husband.
"At noon. It's all about my new coaching job."
“At noon? Can I be able to hold myself?” I teased him.
He hugged me and tapped my back.

"You are already in my heart," and as he walked out of my room, it felt like a piece of my heart was leaving with him. Truly, he was the love of my life, and choosing him over Paul wasn't a mistake.

After Justin left, I checked my phone and saw the many missed calls from Paul. I thought about calling him back, but I decided to go ahead with my plan of talking to his wife and convincing her not to divorce Paul. I didn't want Paul to find out, so I texted Sara first.

"Good morning, Sara, please let me know when you'll be alone. I'd like to have a private video call with you."

After sending the message, I waited for a response. As expected, she replied a few minutes later, saying,
"Good morning, Sadie. I hope everything is alright. I'll have some time at 10 a.m."
"Okay, but I hope Paul won't be home by then?" I sent another text.
"No, he'll have already left for work by then."
"Okay. I'll see you later," I replied and then fell back on my bed, staring at the ceiling.

As I lay there, I decided to call my mum.
"Hi, Mum," I greeted with a smile, unable to hide my happiness.
"How was your night? I know you arrived late. Hmm… What's happening? You seem so happy.”
"Yes, I am happy because I am hearing your voice, and my night was wonderful," I replied, though the truth was that it was Justin’s thought that made me happy.

"When are you coming back?" she asked.
"That's why I'm calling you..." I interrupted her.
"My boyfriend asked about you this morning. Won't you accept his job offer?" she asked.
"For now, it'll be difficult."
"Why? How? What will my boyfriend think if you don't accept his job offer?"
"Mum, please, I will accept it, but not right now, unless it's an online job. I can work from here part-time."

"I don't think he'll like that idea..."
"Even with the online job, I won't start immediately."
"How do you expect me to explain that to him, Sadie?"
"Please, Mum, help me explain that I've accepted his offer. You've already told me he's not the reason why you don't want to look for my dad. Please, help me."
"Okay, I'll get back to you later and let you know his reaction."
"Okay, Mum. I missed you."
"I missed you too, my darling. But your friend Daisy has been taking up most of your time."

I laughed at her comment. If only she knew that it was my best friend's dad taking my precious time.

Author’s pov

It was 9:56 am, and Sara was waiting for Paul to leave the house. They were both in the living room. Sara had the day off and was dressed casually, while Paul, wearing a black tie, was heading to work. He had come back to grab an important document.

"Won't you be late for work?" Sara asked.

"How many times do I have to tell you? I have a presentation at 11 am," Paul replied, sounding impatient.

"Don't you need time to prepare? It seems to me you're already late," Sara said, raising an eyebrow.

"Hmm... I might be, but I need this document." Paul held the file in his right hand, leaned in to kiss Sara, and left the house.

After he left, Sara glanced at her phone. It was 10:02 am. In her hurry to make a call, she forgot to lock the front glass door. She went into her room, picked up her phone, and dialed Sadie for a video call.

A few seconds later, Sadie's face appeared on the screen. She was wearing a grey gown, and it was clear she wasn't wearing a bra, as her movements made it noticeable.

"Hi, Sara!" Sadie greeted with a wave, holding her phone with her left hand.

"Hi, Sadie. How was your night?" Sara asked, smiling.

"It was lovely," Sadie replied. Then she added, "Where's Paul?"

"He left for work a few minutes ago," Sara said.

"What about your daughter?"

"She's still sleeping in her room," Sara answered.

For a moment, neither of them spoke. They simply looked at each other until Sara broke the silence.

"What is it you want to tell me, Sadie?"

Sadie hesitated for a second before saying, "Sara, I called for a very specific reason. It’s about your family. I want you and Paul to have a loving and happy marriage. I promise this is coming from me, not Paul. Please don’t think I’m overstepping. Do you still love Paul the way you did when you first met him?"

Sara's face softened, and she answered earnestly, "Yes, I do. I love him just as much as when I first saw him. He's all I have, and I can't imagine life without him."

Sadie smiled faintly but then leaned closer to the screen. "Then why are you planning to divorce—"

Before she could finish, Paul appeared behind Sara, unnoticed by her. Sadie froze, her eyes widening.

"I thought you said Paul wasn’t home," Sadie said, her voice dropping.

"He wasn’t, but he just got back," Sara said, turning slightly.

Paul, having heard Sadie's last statement, cut in sharply. "Sadie! What are you trying to do?" He grabbed the phone from Sara's hand and ended the call abruptly.

Sara stood up, shocked. "What are you hiding, Paul? Why did you end my call? What’s going on behind my back?"

Paul ran a hand through his hair, looking frustrated. Sadie's slip had unraveled something he wasn't ready to face.

Sara, determined, redialed Sadie’s number. As the phone rang, Paul silently prayed, "Please, Sadie, don’t answer."
