Love is unfair
Sadie's pov
“What the hell is going on here?”
That was my first exclamation. I was dumbedfolded for the following seconds that followed. I saw a stranger taking off Justin's clothes and he was just lying down with his back facing the ceiling. I couldn't take my right hand from the doorpost and my feet were glued to the floor. Am I dreaming or what? This must be a nightmare. I was still trying to console myself when the strange lady said authoritatively.
“Who are you?”
“I should be the one asking you, who are you?” I took a step forward, although, relatively far from them. The lady took her hands from Justin's belt and stood up and said,
“My name is Sonia and this is my boyfriend. Who are you? I have never seen you before and Daisy is my boyfriend's only daughter.
When she said Justin was her boyfriend, I couldn't say a word or challenge her. My relationship with Justin was a hidden one and because we were hiding it, I couldn't challenge her. Wait a minute! Why will I even challenge her? The man in question was laying down there without saying a word.
Despite the pain of seeing the man I loved so much been handled by another woman, I couldn't step out of the room. I stood there as if I was enjoying the scene, but within me, I was dying emotionally. This question continuously popped out of my mind.
“Is Justin using me all this while?”
And there was no need for me to stand there watching what was traumatizing me. The moment I stepped out of the room, I heard footsteps. Beholds! The lady came out of the room and walked past me on the stairs and went out of the house like she was in a hurry.
I entered my room like a walking corpse and I lost all enthusiasm. I sat on my bed and without my notice, tears were on my cheeks. I put my two hands on my face and asked myself.
“Where did I get it all wrong? What have I done to Justin that he had decided to do to me? Is this the lady Daisy was talking about that Justin slept with?” As I was saying these words to myself, I was feeling burning pains all over my body. Then I stood up and I went to the mirror to see that I was dreaming. No, it was a reality. I could feel my flesh and my breath.
This was exactly the way I felt when Leo broke my heart and I never thought I would feel this way again. My tears were rushing out as if someone was piercing a needle into my eyes and my pain was endless.
It was so painful to see those you love so much let you down. Justin had promised me heaven and earth and he had not shown any signs that he could betray me any time. As I was wailing alone in my room, I heard the sound of a car and for sure, it sounded like Daisy's car. As soon as I heard that sound, I ran into my bathroom and with my clothes on, I turned on the shower and stood under it. The first place I concentrated was my face. I continuously washed my face as I wanted to look as if I wasn't crying. Then a new fear arose. What will I tell Daisy that was making me cry? Trying to suppress my emotions was causing me a fresh new pain and panic.
“Hello Sadie!” Daisy called my name as soon as she entered my room.
“Where are you?” She asked.
“I'm bathing. I just got into the bathroom. Welcome. When did you leave?” I asked as I tried to clear my throat of any sorrowful crack.
“You were sleeping when I left. Oh!” She paused and continued, “you didn't see the note I dropped on the bed.”
“No. You dropped any note?”
“Yes, it's still here.”
“What's on the note?” I asked.
“No need. I'm back already.”
Then I heard her phone ringing and she picked it and from her first statement, I knew the call was from her mum.
“Mum, I'm coming.” She ended the call and walked to the bathroom door.
“Sadie, are you still bathing?”
“I'm almost done.” I replied and came out of the bathroom and all I could see was a smiling Daisy.
“Why are you so happy?” I tried to act as if I was never sad.
“Sadie, you will not understand. It's my mum and her beautiful troubles.” Then she paused and took a closer look at my eyes. “What happened to your eyes?”
“What happened to them?” I swiftly walked to the standing mirror and acted as if I didn't know what was happening to me.
“Hmmm.. they are red. I guess I stayed too long under the cold shower.”
Also, I deliberately came out of the bathroom without cleaning off the water on my body.
“If that is the case, please don't stay too long under the shower again. Please use warm water next time,” and I could see pity on her face.
“I will be fine. Don't worry.”
“Okay,” she was staring at me as I was cleaning my body.
“Please, I know you might be offended again. I want to quickly meet my mum and I will be coming back later in the evening.”
“I will bear as long as you will be sleeping in this house today. But I will…” I paused and she said,
“Please, don't tell me you want to travel back home,” she said and nodded.
“No, that can not be. I thought you promised me that you will be staying this morning. Please, stay with me for a while. Why did you want to break your promise?”
Then I remembered that I had promised to stay for some time before going back.
“Okay, but prepare your mind that I will soon be leaving.”
“Yes, and that simply means you are not going now.”
“Hmm yes!”
“Thank you so much,” and as she was about to come out of my room, she walked up to me and embraced me.
“Thank you for staying with me.” Then she kissed my cheek and smiled and I immediately forced out a smile too.
Daisy took her bag and ran out of my room the moment her phone rang again.
“Bye!” She closed the door. All I could do was to remain standing and when I heard Daisy's car driving outside the compound, tears fell down from my eyes and I was free again to express my pain.
I sat on my bed and patiently waited for Justin to come to my room, then I told him how he had broken my heart.
I waited and waited, but Justin didn't come to my room. The more he delayed coming to my room or asking after me, the more I felt he had totally left me and the new lady had taken over my place.
After about four hours and the time was 4:30 pm, I decided to leave the house and walk around the city. This heartbreak was so painful that I didn't have anyone to express my pains to unlike that of Leo. Daisy was there with me. This was a secret relationship and when Justin broke my heart, I will also look out for a new one to ease my pain.
I took my bath and wore a black gown that stopped at my knees and there were black eyeglasses to cover my eyes that have always been red because of what I was passing through. I have no destination, but I wanted to go outside until Daisy comes back.
Just as I was about to come out of my room, I saw Justin coming down from the stairs and he smiled at me. But to his surprise, I gave him a stone look.
“Where are you going ?” He asked.
“Why do you want to know?” I asked and was still walking towards the door. Then he rushed and stood in front of me.
“Please, where are you going?”
“Please, go and meet your new girlfriend, Sonia.”
“Sonia, who Sonia? I don't know who you are talking about.” He tried to hold my hand, but I pulled away from him and said,
“You claim that you love me, but when Sonia was taking off your clothes, you didn't tell her to stop. Justin, you broke my heart.” This was when I lost my voice in sorrow.
“I can't remember what you are talking about?”
“I caught you red handed and you are saying you can't remember what I am talking about? Leo's case was better. He came to me and openly told me that he is no longer interested in me. But in your case, you brought home your girlfriend. You were there when he was challenging me. I couldn't say a word because we have been hiding our relationship.”
“When did this happen? In my room?” He asked and he was so serious.
“Who is Sonia? Are you denying it?”
“All I could remember was that, a lady came into this house and she said she knew me somewhere. Why I even gave her a listening ear was when she showed me my complimentary card. But still I don't understand all the allegations you are saying that I did.”
“Allegations? You called it an allegation. I'm not interested in you again,” and each time I said that statement, tears would come out of my tears.
“Please Sadie, stop crying. I am telling you the truth.”
“Please leave my way, I don't have anyone to share my pains with. This is a very painful break-up and I want you to leave me. Please, don't talk to me.”
I passed him and walked out of the house. I cleaned my tears and took a taxi.
“Where are you going?” The driver asked me.
“Please, take me to any bar.”
“Okay,” the young man nodded his head and drove away. Unknown to Sadie, Justin was following her. It was about thirteen minutes later, the car stopped and Justin stopped in front of it and came out. Still, Sadie had not noticed him. After paying the taxi man and turning to face the bar, she saw Justin standing in her way.
“What are you doing here? Do you think you can stop me? Your love is very wicked.”
“Wait, let's discuss this matter. It's not what you were thinking. I didn't know when I got into my room. I woke up seeing my trousers not on me. I can't remember what transpired my love.”
It was this statement that tore Sadie's heart again and tears came out of her eyes and said,
“You couldn't even say something when she was challenging me….” My voice dropped and I finally said, “leave me alone. Let me go and look for someone else. You have broken my heart.”
