Are you cold?

A gust of wind sent a cold shiver down Dora’s spine, pulling her from the depths of her slumber. Her body curled instinctively, searching for warmth, but an unsettling sensation crept over her skin. The fabric covering her was too light, too unfamiliar.

Her eyelids fluttered open, adjusting to the dim glow of the night. It took her a moment to register her surroundings, the soft sheets beneath her, the faint scent of roses lingering in the air, the distant hum of the city beyond the window. Then, a chilling realization dawned upon her. She was bare beneath the thin sheet, her skin exposed to the cool night air.

Her pulse quickened. She sat upright, clutching the sheet to her chest as if it could shield her from the storm of emotions brewing within. Her gaze darted around until it landed on him.

Austin stood near the open window, his broad back facing her, his posture exuding calmness that sharply contrasted the turmoil inside her. The night wrapped around him, casting his silhouette in shadows. The sight sent a memory crashing over her, the memory of another night, another moment just like this.

A soft gasp escaped her lips, betraying the tremble she tried to suppress. The moment the sound reached him, Austin turned. His sharp eyes, dark with unreadable emotions, locked onto her.

Dora’s fingers tightened around the sheet as she looked away, her breath uneven. He took a step forward, and she felt her entire body tense.

Without a word, he moved closer and then, without hesitation, scooped her into his arms.

A startled gasp left her lips, and instinctively, her arms looped around his neck. The sudden motion caused the sheet to slip slightly, baring more of her skin to the night air. Heat rushed to her face as she caught the way his gaze darkened, lingering over the marks he had left on her body. Her heart pounded at the intensity in his eyes. Hastily, she grasped the fabric, covering herself as best as she could.

He carried her across the room, stepping onto the balcony. The night stretched before them, endless and serene. She hadn’t noticed before, but the space had been transformed. A plush bean bag sat in the center, surrounded by flickering candles and scattered rose petals. The scent of jasmine mixed with the crisp air, creating an intoxicating contrast.

Her breath hitched as her bare skin brushed against his torso, the warmth of his body sinking into hers. She swallowed hard, acutely aware of every place they touched.

“I have always wanted to watch the sunrise with you,” Austin murmured against her skin, his lips grazing the sensitive spot near her ear.

A quiet hum was the only response she could manage. Her eyes fluttered shut as his breath traced a warm path along her neck, sending tingles down her spine.

He settled onto the bean bag, pulling her onto his lap. Her head rested against his chest, the steady rhythm of his heartbeat beneath her palm oddly soothing. His arms wrapped around her waist, securing her against him.

“Are you cold?” His voice was low, rough around the edges.

Instead of answering, Dora shifted closer, her palms pressing against his back. The movement brought her chest flush against his, and she inhaled sharply at the realization that nothing but the thin sheet separated them.

“Not anymore,” she murmured, turning her attention to the horizon where the first hints of dawn painted the sky in soft hues of gold and pink.

They remained in comfortable silence, the warmth of his body anchoring her as the night slowly gave way to the light. Dora lost herself in the tranquil moment until a thought struck her, sending a thrill through her veins.

She lifted her head, her gaze searching for him. Before Austin could question her shift in posture, she slid onto his lap properly, straddling his thighs. The sheet slipped further, but she paid it no mind. Instead, she let her hands roam over his bare shoulders, her fingers tracing the contours of his muscles.

Austin’s breath hitched. His hands found her waist, his grip tightening slightly.

A mischievous glint danced in Dora’s eyes as she leaned closer, her lips brushing against his neck. “You look too untouched,” she murmured against his skin, her voice carrying an alluring edge.

He let out a sharp breath, his fingers digging into her hips. “What are you doing, kitten?”

She didn’t answer. Instead, she trailed her lips lower, placing open-mouthed kisses along his throat. His pulse quickened beneath her touch, sending a surge of confidence through her.

“You left your mark on me,” she whispered, her lips grazing his collarbone. “It is only fair that I return the favor.”

Austin’s eyes darkened, his jaw tightening as she nipped at the sensitive skin just beneath his ear. His restraint was slipping, and she could feel it in the way his grip on her tightened.

“Dora,” he warned, his voice strained.

Ignoring him, she let her hands wander, her fingertips grazing the firm ridges of his chest. The deep sound that rumbled in his throat sent a thrill through her. She wanted more.

When she dragged her tongue along the hollow of his throat, he groaned. His grip on her waist became possessive, his self-control dangling by a thread.

“Please, Dora,” he rasped, though he seemed unsure if he was asking her to stop or urging her to continue.

A wicked smile played on her lips. “Let me take care of you,” she murmured, her hands drifting lower.

His breath stuttered as she moved, her touch igniting a fire between them. Dora had never been this bold before, never taken charge in this way, but the hunger in his eyes urged her on.

As the first rays of the sun spilled across the balcony, Austin finally lost the battle against his restraint. He tangled his fingers in her hair, pulling her closer. His lips captured hers in a deep, feverish kiss, swallowing the small sound of satisfaction that escaped her.

The morning air was soon filled with heavy breaths and hushed moans, their bodies moving in a slow, intoxicating rhythm. Time blurred as they lost themselves in each other, the world beyond the balcony fading into insignificance.

When they finally parted, Dora rested her forehead against his, her breathing uneven.

Austin smirked, brushing a strand of hair from her face. “You are dangerous,” he murmured.

A soft chuckle escaped her. “You started it.”

He let out a low hum of amusement. “And you finished it.”

As they made their way back inside, reality began creeping back in. They had work to get to, responsibilities waiting for them. But before either of them could fully return to the routine of their lives, Austin’s phone buzzed.

His expression shifted the moment he read the message.

Meet me today, or your wife will not live to see another sunrise.

A chill ran through Dora, wiping away the warmth of their shared moment. She looked at Austin, searching his face for answers, but his expression had turned unreadable.

The tranquility of the morning shattered, replaced by a dark, looming threat neither of them could ignore.
