Surprise gift from a stranger

Sadie's pov

I watched Justin as he went to the door to see who was knocking. None of us were expecting a visitor, and I doubted if Daisy would come to see us since she was very angry with me to the point that she had decided not to answer my calls, no matter how many times I dialed her number. It's so frustrating, as she's been my only friend in this city.

"Hi..." I could hear Justin saying to the person outside the door. If it was someone he or I knew, he would have added their name. He paused, waiting for the person to respond and at the same time, I positioned my head so that I could hear what they were saying.

"Please, I'm looking for Sadie. I suppose you're her dad. Nice to meet you, you have a very beautiful daughter," a male voice replied. As soon as I heard my name from an unfamiliar voice, I stood up at once and went to the door.

When I reached the door, Justin moved away so I could face the young man directly. The first thing I did was give him a quick once-over, trying to see if I recognized him from somewhere. His face was unfamiliar, and before I could say anything, he quickly said,

"Hi Sadie. I brought this for you. My driver is waiting for me and I have an important meeting to catch up with." He pointed to a car outside.

"I'll give you a call. I bought exactly what you told me when we talked. I missed you.” He swiftly placed a small wrapped basket in my hand and left. Both Justin and I just stared at him as he smiled at me and rushed back into the car. He was handsome, tall, and elegant, but I had never seen him before. He spoke to me as if we had met before. Justin asked, in a low voice,

"When did you meet him?"

"I haven't met him before," I replied, walking back inside and sitting down with the basket and I placed it on the sitting room table. Justin closed the door and walked to the table and he started opening the wrapped basket, taking out all the things. A heart-shaped wristwatch, a rose with hints of pink and red, a pair of diamond earrings and a necklace with a love-shaped pendant, and a pack of vanilla chocolates. Justin continued taking them out of the basket and said, "Why didn't you tell me you needed these things? These are your favorites if I am not mistaken.”

"I don't know that man," I said, looking at Justin, whose expression had changed and I had not seen him like this before.

"Why didn't you tell him to take back what he brought if you didn't ask for these things?" Justin sounded angry.

I immediately stood up, walked up to him, and I said,

"Don't you believe me?" I tried with my facial expressions to make him not believe what he might be thinking.

At that moment, my phone started ringing, causing both of us to look at each other and then the direction of the phone.

"He said he'll call you. Is he the one calling you now?" Justin asked.

"I don't have his number, and he doesn't have mine. How will he call me? He must have mistaken me for someone else," I replied confidently. Justin then walked up to my phone and looked at the screen. When he saw that it was an unfamiliar number he brought the phone to me. I looked at the number and I realized I hadn't saved the number, I quickly said,

"This is a strange number calling. Do you think it's the man who brought these items? I strongly believe he must come back to take his goods." And then the call ended and Justin looked at me dissatisfied, and I dropped my phone on the table, while I saw him walking towards his room.

"Do you really believe a stranger over what I've told you?" I said. He stopped and looked at me again, and I had never seen him look at me like that before.

"Sadie, I love you, and I wouldn't want to share you with anyone," he finally said as he climbed the staircase, and I couldn't see him anymore. What kind of big mistake did the man who brought these items want to make for me?

A few seconds later, my phone rang again and it was the same number that called me, this time I decided to answer the call.

"Hi, love, what are you doing?" the stranger asked, and anger rose up inside me as I replied,

"Are you out of your mind? Who do you think you are, calling my love?" At that moment, I didn't think it was the man who brought the items, and he introduced himself.

"I'm Gad, and I was the one who brought those items."

"Great! You can come and take back your things. It's a big mistake. I'm not the one who ordered them."

"Please, listen to me. You might have forgotten how and when we met and how you gave me your number?"

"Me? How? When?" I asked, and I immediately felt grateful that Justin didn't answer the call when my phone first rang.

"I don't care about knowing when we met or how you got my number. I'm not interested.” He paused and before I could say something he added, “All I care about is you. Since we met, I haven't been myself," he said with all his strength.

"I'm sorry, but I'm already engaged to someone. The man you saw opening the door for you is my fiancé. I would appreciate it if you could come and take back your gifts," she said.

"You mean that man? The man who opened the door for me? I thought he was your father," he interrupted.

"Just so you know, he is my fiancé," I raised my voice and continued, "now that you know he's my fiancé, this will be the last time you call my number." As he was about to say something, I ended the call.

Feeling very uncomfortable, I stood up from the couch and went to Justin's room. When I reached the door, it was closed, so I knocked. As expected, he didn't say anything at first, so I knocked again.

"Come inside," he said, and I gently opened the door and saw him using his phone.

"Hi, dear," I went to him and embraced him, but he acted cold.

"Why are you upset with me?" I asked, and he turned to look into my eyes and asked,

"Do you really love me?"

"I do, one hundred percent. I love you. I think that guy who came was a mistake..."

"How did he know your name?"

"I was surprised too," I quickly replied, and the more I felt he doubted me, the more tears started to fall from her eyes. Then I pressed my face against his right shoulder. What I heard next was,

"Please don't cry,” he patted my back.

"How can I not cry when you don't trust me? Part of my heart is thinking about how I will reconcile with Daisy, and now you're breaking my heart with this cold attitude."

"Please, forget about Daisy for now. You can't change her attitude at the moment. Give it time," he said.

"If you want me to forget about Daisy's attitude, then believe everything I tell you. I'm here for you." My voice dropped again, and he held my head, and they started kissing me. While kissing, he began removing her clothes and my hands were down and he said.

"What are you doing? Shouldn't you remove mine?"

Author's pov

The young man who had delivered the gifts to Sadie stopped at a hotel. He instructed the driver of the car to leave and took out his phone to make a call.

"I'm done. Come and meet me at the hotel," he said, ending the call, and went inside. He walked straight to the bar section and sat down.

"What can we offer you?" a smiling female bartender approached him.

"Give me a bottle of champagne."

"Okay, sir," the bartender left and returned with the wine and a glass.

"Bring an additional glass. I'm expecting someone."

A few minutes later, the bartender came with another glass of wine and placed it gently on the table before leaving. The young man drank almost half of his glass when he saw the person he was waiting for. It wasn't just anyone, but Sadie's mother, who had lied to her daughter that she had left the city.

"Hi, Mr. Gad," she extended her hand, and they shook hands.

"Welcome, Mrs. Kate. Please have a seat."

"How did it go?" was the first question she asked after sitting down.

"Please have a glass of wine first," Gad said, pouring some wine into the empty glass and handing it to Sadie's mom.

"I delivered the items to her in the presence of her fiancé."

"Don't call that man my daughter's fiancé. I want their relationship to end as soon as possible. I won't leave this town until I see them separated.”
