This can’t be the man I loved
"Please, no! Stop!" Dora cried out, her voice filled with fear as she shook her head desperately. Ignoring her pleas, Austin continued to kiss her neck and shoulders, his hands moving to tear away what remained of her clothes. She fought back with all her strength, pushing against him, but he only kissed her more intensely. When he let go of her wrists to undo his pants, she tried to hit him, but it only seemed to fuel his desire even more.
Ever since Austin had been with Dora in his apartment, he had found it harder and harder to stay away from her. After discovering the truth about her innocence, he had tried to resist his feelings, hoping to earn her forgiveness and trust. But when he found out that his wife was planning to leave him, something inside him snapped. Fear took over, and he gave in to his emotions.
Meanwhile, Dora felt a chill run through her as his hands moved lower. Nothing she said or did seemed to make a difference. In a final, desperate attempt, she screamed, "My baby! Please, don’t hurt my baby!"
Tears streamed down her face as she lay helpless beneath him. "Please," she begged, her voice breaking, "I can’t lose my baby again."
Austin stopped suddenly, his eyes widening as he looked down at her. "What did you say?" he asked, his voice sharp.
Dora, lost in her fear, didn’t respond. But when he pulled her up from the bed and demanded, "Say that again," she froze. "My baby," she started, but then stopped, realizing what she had just revealed.
"No, no, he’ll hurt my baby again," she thought, panic rising. She stared at him, terrified of what she had just let slip.
Austin felt as if the ground had been pulled out from under him. He looked at his wife, pale and trembling, and loosened his grip on her arms. She looked like she was about to collapse.
Taking advantage of his shock, Dora scrambled off the bed, trying to get away, but she tripped over her torn clothes and fell to the floor. Austin quickly got up and moved toward her, but he stopped when she screamed at him to stay back. Seeing how scared she was, he looked down, noticing a piece of paper under his foot. He crouched down, still in his unzipped pants, and picked it up. It was a medical report that had fallen out of her bag.
His eyes scanned the page, stopping at the doctor’s note at the bottom: No intercourse until the next scan. The words hit him hard. She knew. She had known all along.
"You’re pregnant," he said, his voice barely above a whisper. "And you were going to leave me without telling me?" He stared at her, waiting for an answer, but her silence told him everything he needed to know.
He stepped back, clutching the report tightly. Another betrayal. First, his mother had manipulated him, and now Dora. Why couldn’t she see that he was trying to make things right?
The thought of losing her and their unborn child filled him with anger. What if he hadn’t found the divorce papers? He would have lost her forever, never knowing about the child they had created together.
He needed answers, and he wasn’t going to wait. His eyes burned with fury as he moved toward her. Dora backed away, pulling the torn pieces of her clothes around her. "You were going to leave me and hide this from me?" he asked, his voice low but intense. "Why?"
She pressed herself against the wall, her eyes filled with tears. "Please," she whispered, "don’t hurt my baby. Please, don’t take him away from me."
Her words cut through him. She didn’t deny it; she only begged for her child’s safety. What hurt the most was that she believed he would harm their baby. Memories of the past flooded his mind—how he had convinced her to end her first pregnancy, only to abandon her afterward. Now, all she could think about was protecting this child.
Austin couldn’t bear it anymore. Before he did something he would regret, he turned and walked out of the room, locking the door behind him. He knew she would try to run if given the chance.
It took Dora a while to calm down and gather her thoughts. She sat on the floor, clutching what was left of her clothes, trying to figure out what to do next.
"I can’t stay here. I need to leave before he does something," she muttered, wiping her tears as she hurried to the door. But when she tried to open it, she found it locked. Panic set in, and her breathing became fast and shallow.
"He locked me in. No one knows I’m here. No one will know if he hurts my baby. No one will come to save me," she thought, her chest tightening with fear.
"No, no, I can’t let this happen. I won’t let anything happen to my child," she told herself. Desperate, she began pounding on the door, screaming for help.
Austin, sitting in the living room, heard her cries. His heart ached at the sound, but he stayed where he was, his head in his hands. He closed his eyes, lost in thought.
"She thinks I would hurt our child. She was going to leave me without even telling me about the baby," he thought.
A voice in his head reminded him, "This is your fault. You made her believe the worst. You tricked her before, and now she’s afraid of you. She’s not wrong to want to leave."
But another part of him argued, "If you let her go, you’ll lose her and your child. Do you really want that?"
Finally, he stood up, his mind made up. He grabbed a bottle of alcohol, took a long drink to calm his anger, and then picked up a blank piece of paper from his bag. He walked to the bedroom, his steps heavy.
When he opened the door, he found Dora sitting on the floor, her back against the bed, crying. She looked up, startled, as he entered. He threw the paper in front of her.
"Sign it," he said coldly.
"What is this?" she asked, her voice trembling.
Austin moved closer, and she pulled her knees to her chest, trying to protect herself. He crouched down and smirked. "It’s just a piece of paper. Don’t worry, it’s not a loan form."
Dora looked at the blank page, confused. "It’s... empty," she said, her eyes darting back to him, afraid of what he might do next.
"For now," he replied. "By tomorrow, it will say that we’ve decided to work on our marriage and cancel the divorce. Since I started the process, we can end it together."
Dora’s shoulders slumped. "No, I can’t sign this. I don’t want to be with you. I don’t love you. Please, just let me go," she begged, her voice breaking.
Austin’s expression hardened. "Do you want your child to live, Dora?" he asked, his tone cold and emotionless.
Her eyes widened in fear. "You... you can’t do that," she stammered, trying to move away from him.
"I can, and I will if you don’t sign," he said. "You tricked me into signing the divorce papers, but I’m being honest with you now. Sign this, and we’ll call it even."
"I won’t sign," she said, crawling backward.
"Fine," he said, starting to unbutton his shirt. "If that’s what you want."
"Please! Why can’t you understand? I don’t want to be with you!" she cried.
"But you didn’t seem to mind when I was kissing you earlier," he said with a smirk. "If you really didn’t want me, why didn’t you stop me then?"
Dora stared at him, stunned.
A voice in her head warned her, "Don’t believe him. He’s manipulating you."
Austin continued, his voice calm. "I’m just trying to be a good husband. I care about what you want."
Dora had nowhere to go. She was trapped, at his mercy.
"I’m okay with you leaving me," he said, standing over her, shirtless. "But for now, be a good wife and give me what I want."
Dora froze. "You can’t... please, I’ll lose my baby," she pleaded.
"Is that my problem?" he replied coldly.
"This can’t be the man I loved," she thought, her heart breaking. "He’s a monster. He only cares about himself."
"Austin, please," she begged. "It’s your baby too."
For a moment, Austin hesitated. He wanted to hold her, to tell her he would never hurt their child. But instead, he said, "So?"
Dora’s heart shattered. "He’ll never accept this child as his own," she thought.
Finally, she gave in. "I’ll sign the paper," she said, her voice barely audible. "But promise me you won’t force me or hurt my baby."
Austin’s jaw tightened. He wanted to tell her it was their baby, that he would never harm it. But all he said was, "Fine."
A tear fell onto the paper as she signed it. The last thing she remembered was passing out.
When she woke up, she was in a hospital bed. Instinctively, she touched her stomach, panic rising. When Austin walked into the room, she jumped up and slapped him hard.
"You promised!" she screamed, grabbing his collar. "You promised you wouldn’t hurt my baby! What did you do? Why did you do it? I signed your stupid papers!"
