Can I talk to her?
James's pov
I'm relieved that I didn't guess what was going on in Stephanie 's mind and reveal it to her. All I needed to do that she found pleasing was to accompany her to her car and give her a goodbye kiss before she left. Once Stephanie was finally gone, the tension in my mind eased, and I returned to my room, sitting on the bed. How am I going to handle this? Staying here and constantly looking at Juliana's pictures will only make things worse. I need to go and meet her at the office and tell her how her beauty and unique figure had turned me into.
I stood up and walked to the window, contemplating whether I should go to Juliana's office. And when I get there, what would I say to her? I turned, as if facing my own thoughts and imagining them looking back at me. I gestured with my hands, as if giving a presentation.
"I will make sure I look my best as I step out of this house. And when I reach her office, I'll say, 'Dear Juliana, the first time I saw you, I couldn't resist getting a rose for you. You are the most beautiful woman I've ever seen. I can't imagine my life without you. Thoughts of you consume my mind, and in my dreams, I see you constantly and I want that to happen in real life. What can I do to prove my love for you? If you want me to jump from the top of this building to the ground, I will do it to show my unwavering love for you. At first, I thought loving you was a fantasy.
I paused, an erotic phrase entering my mind. "Should I say it?" There were other thoughts in my head, encouraging me to say it. I shrugged and continued with what I was saying.
"Juliana, your thoughts..." I paused again. But wouldn't she think I only wanted her for her body if I said such words? A thought struck me. "Have you forgotten? You were the master at making girls beg on their knees back in college." I was surprised that Juliana, who had my phone number, hadn't called me. If I had her number, I would have called her.
As I pondered how to express my emotions to Juliana, my phone started ringing. Is she the one calling? That would be a miracle. Then I walked up to the phone and looked at my phone’s screen, it was my mum.
"Hi, sweet Mom. How are you doing this morning?"
"I'm fine. I called to check on you. It's been a while since I last saw you. Tell me, is it because of your new job that you've been so scarce?"
"How did you know what I was about to say?”
"I know you better than you know yourself. I'm your mum, and I carried you for nine months," my mum said, and I couldn't help but laugh.
"Mom, you're already making my day. Thanks a lot. Don't worry, I'll try to see you on the weekend..."
"Hmmm... before I forget, your Aunt Linda said she saw you a few weeks ago and you introduced a beautiful lady to her as your girlfriend."
"Oh, yes, she told you?" I asked.
"Why wouldn't she tell me? You've been hiding your female friends from me for a while now."
"But Mum, you know why. You always end up revealing my past to them, which ruins the relationship. That's why I don't bring or introduce any ladies to you."
"My son, it's better for a woman to know your past. By not telling her from the beginning, you're making things complicated for yourself. And eventually, she will find out. What do you think will happen then?"
"She'll probably get angry..."
"And leave," my mum interrupted.
"Okay, but still, I don't want you to tell her now."
"Why?" she asked.
"Because that would be the only reason I'd feel comfortable bringing her along when I come to visit you."
"Are you giving me a condition to visit me?" she asked, with a tone that made me laugh.
"Mum, can you please check the time?" I asked, trying to end the conversation.
"It's almost 8:30 am."
"You're right. Where do you think I'll be rushing to this morning?"
"Your new job," she replied.
"Do you want them to fire me? I'm running late."
"Okay, I'll call you later in the evening. I don't want you to blame me for your tardiness."
"Thank you. I miss you."
"I won't say I miss you until you come and see me."
"Mum... please say it," I said aloud.
"No, won't you be late again? Bye..." she hung up the call.
"Mom! Mom!!" The call had already ended.
I flopped onto my bed, lying on my back and stretching my arms out, then I closed my eyes.
Three hours later, I was standing in front of the mirror, fully dressed. I wore black trousers and a loose-fitting shirt, unbuttoning the top two buttons to expose my chest slightly. My hair was neatly styled, and I had sunglasses in my right hand. Then I put on the glasses and checked how they perfectly matched my outfit. Satisfied, I nodded my head. My next move was to take my car key on the table and leave the house. When I got outside, I entered my car.
After I comfortably sat down in my car, glancing at my wristwatch, I assumed they would be on their lunch break at the AZ Corporation, giving me the perfect opportunity to speak to Juliana.
On my way, I decided to buy a smaller rose this time. As I approached the building, my heart was pounding. I had never felt this way about any lady before. I parked my car and, while locking the car door, I took a quick look at myself in the car window before heading into the building. Since I was familiar with the layout, I didn't encounter any receptionists on the ground floor. I entered the lift and stopped on the tenth floor. Luckily, I arrived just as the lunch break was starting.
"Hi, good afternoon," I smiled at Juliana's secretary, and she was about to stand up. But when she saw me, she sat back down.
"Good afternoon, sir. You came right at the start of the lunch break. What can I do for you before I leave?" she asked, dressed in a navy blue suit.
"I came to see Mrs. Juliana, your Boss."
The secretary quickly checked her system to see if there was any appointment.
"Your name, sir?"
"James Samson."
After browsing through her computer for a while, she looked up and said,
"Do you have any official appointment with her?"
"No."
"Hmm... was she expecting you?"
"No," I replied again.
"The reason I'm asking is that she's not at her desk..."
"Don't worry, it's lunchtime. I can wait if she's gone out for lunch," I confidently said. The way the secretary looked at me made me feel like something had gone wrong. Why did she tell her secretary not to let me in, or why did her facial expression look like this? That's what I asked myself as I waited for her to reply.
"She didn't come to the office today!" she said, and those words completely shattered me. The rose in my right hand, covered in silver nylon, almost slipped from my grasp. It was clear that what the secretary had said had a negative effect on me.
"I hope there's no problem?" I asked.
"No, no." I took a deep breath and turned to leave. She watched me as I got close to the exit door, but I couldn't control myself. I turned back and asked,
"Will she be here tomorrow?"
"I don't think so," she replied.
"Can I have her personal phone number, please?"
"Hmm... I'm sorry. All I can give you are her office phone numbers. If you want to reach her, you can leave a message with me, and when she comes, I'll pass it on to her."
"Thank you, but I really want to see her in person.”
"Okay, if that's the case, she will definitely be here on Friday at exactly 10 am. Please, don't let her know that I gave you this information. She will be coming to sign some documents."
"Oh, thank you so much." I reached out my hand to shake hers, and we shook hands. As I was about to leave for the second time, the desk phone started ringing, and I heard the secretary say,
"My boss is calling."
Upon hearing those words, I stood still and turned, hoping I could speak to Juliana. The secretary and Juliana spoke for about two minutes, and when I sensed that she was about to end the call, I quickly asked,
"Can I talk to her?” My entire body moved as I requested to talk to Juliana, and the secretary was standing between me and my desire. Will she grant me my request?
