It's always not your fault

Daisy's pov

I never felt angry when my dad, Sadie, and my boyfriend were all together in my dad's house, but things changed when I got into Douglas’ car to go to his house. Just after leaving my dad's compound, Douglas asked,
"My love, how are you doing?"
At first, I told myself there was no good reason to answer that question. He must have thought I didn't hear him clearly, so he asked again,
"My love, how are you doing?" Then he touched me, and my response made him realize that I was angry.
"Did you notice that I was upset when you came?" I asked in a low voice. He knew me well and could tell when I was angry.
"It wasn't my fault," he replied.
"That's always what you say, that it's not your fault. Whose fault is it then? Is it my fault that you find pleasure in leaving me for so long and then come back and say it's not your fault? The time has come for you to choose between your job and me." I paused and kept quiet to see what he would say. Surprisingly, he remained silent, as if about to say something, but then his phone started ringing. Instead of answering the call, he ended it. Then his phone rang again, and once more, he ended the call. When this happened for the second time, I couldn't stay silent and asked,
"Why aren't you answering your calls?" When he didn't respond and seemed very unsatisfied, I asked again, "What are you hiding from me?"
My deep and controversial question forced him to reply.
"Look, it's my biggest client who's calling me. I can't pick up his call because I haven't completed his job."
I didn't bother to look at the phone he showed me and I also didn't respond to his explanation, and the car fell into silence once again as he continued driving until we reached his place. He parked the car, got out first, and when he saw that I wasn't willing to leave the car, he walked to the passenger's door and opened it. Still, I didn't get out. I wanted him to give me a clear answer whether he would consider staying in this city or if I should go with him to the city where he always works.
"What do you need, Daisy?" he leaned towards me, his face close to mine. I could see his bright white eyes in his handsome face, one of the reasons I accepted being in a relationship with him. True, he was attractive and presentable, but the matter at hand had nothing to do with his good looks.
He held my right hand and tried to gently pull me out of the car, but I resisted.
"Is this why you asked me to come?" He asked.
"Yes, it was part of it. My friends make fun of me when I can't introduce my boyfriend at a party. That's why I wanted you to come to my dad's house celebration. However, the celebration has been rescheduled for next Saturday, and I decided not to tell you in advance. If I had informed you over the phone, you wouldn't have come here.”
"Daisy, I'm sorry for all the pain I've caused you. Please, I understand, I need to do something about my job." He patted my back, and gently I stepped out of the car as he led me inside the house. I sat down in one of the chairs in the living room while he went outside to close one of the car's doors that was opened and lock the others doors. He was outside when I heard his phone ringing, so he answered the call, and his voice gradually faded to the point where I could barely hear him. He spent a long time on the call and finally came back inside. But then, I wasn't suspecting him of being unfaithful.
Gradually, Douglas was able to lighten my mood, and I started feeling better. We made love that night, and because it had been a while for me. I kept asking for more until we fell asleep.
While still in bed the next morning, my phone rang, and when I checked the screen, it was my dad calling.
"Hi, Dad, good morning."
"Good morning, how was your night?"
"Great, Dad."
"When are you coming back? Remember that Sadie's flight is at 9 am. Won't you accompany her to the airport?"
"Really? I thought the flight was at noon."
"No, please start coming," he said.
"Okay, thanks, Dad." I ended the call.
I got out of bed and took off my nightgown.
"Sweetheart," I called Douglas to wake him up. As I was getting dressed, Douglas was moving his body on the bed and waking up.
"Please, I want to go home now. Sadie will be leaving in a few hours." I hurriedly got dressed, and before he could get up from the bed, I kissed his cheek and rushed out of the house.
"Why can't you wait so that I can drop you off at home?" he shouted. All I could think about was that he would take a shower before going out.
"I am in a hurry," I raised my voice.
"Wait," he came out, already wearing his shirt and putting on his trousers.
"Okay, let's go."
Douglas opened the car, and we got in as he drove out of his compound. Since it was still morning, there weren't many cars on the road, and Douglas could drive smoothly, so we arrived home on time. As I stepped out of the car, I waved at my boyfriend as he reversed his car and left.
I went to the door and knocked when I saw that it was locked. A few minutes later, my dad came and opened the door from the inside.
"Good morning, Dad," I gave him a quick hug. "Where is Sadie?" I asked, seeing my dad wearing an apron.
"She's in her room," he replied.
"Are you cooking?" I asked, smiling at him. As he headed towards the kitchen, I made my way to Sadie's room. I intended to knock but decided to open the door at once, hoping that she was awake. To my shock, Sadie was naked on her bed, and was still asleep.
"Sadie, what happened?" I rushed to wake her up.
