Let me worry about that...

"Wait!” She quickly interrupted me and continued, “can we discuss this when I come back, please? I would really appreciate it, Sadie."

"Okay, hmmm…if you say so Mom."

"I'll buy your favorite when I come tomorrow morning. I'll be there early. I miss you, my baby. Bye!"

"Bye, Mom!" and the call ended. Then I began to move around the house, trying to occupy myself with something to do. I needed to think outside the box to avoid constantly dwelling on Justin's presence.

"Why not call Paul," I said out loud. Paul was one of my admirers back in college, and he was my senior. Now, he's married. Paul was someone I could confide in about female things, just like Daisy. He was also someone I could talk to about male-related things. It had been a long time since I last called or saw him. I grabbed my phone and dialed his number.

"Hi big bro," I said aloud with a smile.

"Sadie! Wow, you called me today. That's so cool. I hope I won't disappear after hearing your voice?" he joked.

"No, no,” making me chuckle.

"Sadie, my wife I never married," he said again, and I couldn't stop laughing.

"How is your wife and Carol?" Carol was his little daughter.

"My wife and kid are fine. You still remember that you were the one who suggested the name Carol."

"Paul, it wasn't my suggestion. Do you want to cause trouble between me and your wife?"

"Sara? Sara knew you were my lover before she agreed to marry me."

"Paul, you're turning everything into fun. I know Sara, she'll be mad hearing this. Please don't make your wife jealous. She's your one and only now."

"Thank you so much, Sadie." I heard Sara's voice. What? I thought to myself. Does Paul want to set me up?

"Hi Sara, how are you doing?"

"I'm doing great. Paul wanted to trick you into coming by telling you I wasn't home. My husband jokes about everything."

"Hmm... it's been a long time. I just wanted to hear your voices and decided to say hi," I replied Sara.

"Sadie, I thought you were coming to visit us?" Paul took the phone, and I could hear his voice clearly.

"No. Although I've traveled before, I'm back home."

"Can we pay you a visit?"

"With Carol? It would be great if Sara joins you," I quickly said.

"I don't know if she can make it."

"She's your other half, you can't go anywhere without her," I said, feeling joyful as the conversation continued. I wished it could go on.

"I hope she follows me..."

"Darling, aren't we going to the grocery store again?" I heard Sara's voice in the background. I took the opportunity to end the call.

"Paul, I don't think it will be possible anymore..."

"Because of my wife?" he interrupted.

"No, because I'm about to go out."

"That's a big lie. I'm coming with Carol."

"What about your wife?"

"Let me worry about that," he said, and I quickly said,

"Bye! Bye!! See you next time, please. Not today. You won't find me at home. I'm serious," and I ended the call with laughter.

Paul has always been a hilarious friend. I'm grateful I spoke in favor of his wife. I was in the living room when I made the call, and I lost count of how many times I walked around the glass table in the middle of the room.

I glanced at the wall clock and noticed it was almost 3 pm, and hunger started to set in. I had only had a small slice of bread that my mum gave me in the morning.

After my conversation with Paul on the phone, I felt like I regained my composure, but the worry of whether Paul would come and visit me still lingered in my mind. I headed straight to the kitchen and started cooking my lunch. It was amusing to have a conversation with my thoughts in the quiet house, and my main focus was on Paul. I recalled some of the funny things we did together as friends, and the more I remembered, the more I laughed. If he came over, it would surely relieve my boredom.

While cooking, I found myself humming my favorite songs, and these accompanied me until I finished preparing my lunch. I hadn't realized that I had spent quite some time in the kitchen, and it was only when I sat down at the dining table to eat that I realized my cooking had taken about an hour. I enjoyed my meal, but there was a continuous feeling inside me that Paul might show up at my house. Just as I finished eating and was returning the dishes to the kitchen, I heard a knock on the front door.

"Could that be Paul?" I said, rushing to the kitchen to put away the plates. There was an exciting part of me that wanted to see Paul. After putting away the dishes, I hurried to the sitting room to open the door, but to my surprise, it was someone else.

"Justin? Who gave you my address?" My heart almost dropped, and a new fear gripped me. Could I resist him since I was alone?
