Justin's heart pounded
Author’s pov
This was the first time Justin’s heart raced and he felt the same fear that Sadie had experienced whenever she thought of Daisy finding out about their relationship. Sweat immediately formed on Justin’s palms and his face as he saw Daisy opening the door to his room, where Sadie, whom they were looking for, lay naked in his bed.
“How will Daisy feel? What will she think of Sadie?” were the first thoughts that crossed Justin’s mind, and in a split second, he shouted,
“I’m changing my clothes… I’m naked!” He raised his voice and rushed to the door.
“Oh, sorry, I thought you said you wanted to keep your suitcase,” Daisy replied, and her voice showed her sincerity.
“No, give me a few minutes.” He locked the door behind him and hurried back to Sadie. He quickly carried her on his shoulder and took her to a room that had no external entrance, only connected to his room. In this room, there was a bed, a shelf, a table and a fridge stocked with cookies and drinks.
After locking the door to that room, Justin returned to his own room and noticed Sadie’s clothes. Hastily, he picked them up and hid them in various places around the room.
“Dad?” Daisy called.
“I’m coming,” Justin said, heading towards the door. He spotted Sadie’s phone and quickly grabbed it, putting it in his pocket before opening the door.
“I thought you wanted to change your clothes?” This was the first question Daisy asked when she saw her dad still wearing the same clothes.
“Oh!” Justin touched his head, appearing a bit confused.
“Don’t worry, we’ll find Sadie. She’s a grown-up lady. I’m sure she’s somewhere and she’ll get back to us,” Daisy said as she pushed open her dad’s door and entered his room. As for Justin, he had no reason to fear, as he had taken Sadie to his secret room.
Daisy was still holding her phone in her hand and she sat on her dad’s bed, her eyes scanning the room and her came across the mini door.
“Is there another room there?” She pointed.
“Yes! That’s where I keep my documents. It’s like a documentation room,” he said, trying to sound composed.
“You didn’t show us that room when you gave us a tour of this house during the party.”
“Yeah!” Justin took a deep breath, trying to regain his composure, and smiled. “I thought it was irrelevant, because it was attached to this room.”
At this point, neither of them had noticed the bottle of wine and glass cup near the end of the bed. Justin didn’t know how to tell his daughter so that both of them could leave the room and he was afraid of Sadie suddenly waking up.
“Should I come out of the room? Will she follow me? What if she doesn’t follow? Oh no, I can still see Sadie’s dress where I hid it,” he thought.
The room fell silent, and Daisy stood up and walked around. She was the first to spot the bottle of wine and glass cup, and she said,
“Dad, you’ve started drinking in your room.”
“No, I haven’t.”
“Then what’s this?” She directed Justin’s attention to the stool.
“Hmm… I forgot. That reminds me, have you called Sadie’s mom? Come, come,” he said, as he hurried out of the room, fearing that Daisy might discover Sadie’s dress that he hadn’t hidden properly.
“Dad, I think… calling…” Daisy quickened her pace as she noticed her dad walking faster. She was the one who closed his room door and saw her dad halfway down the stairs, heading to the sitting room downstairs.
When Justin saw Daisy coming out of his room and closing the door, he stopped and turned towards her.
“What were you saying?” he asked, and his heart rate slowed down.
“Dad, I think we shouldn’t call her mum right now. If we do, she might panic about her daughter.”
“That’s a good suggestion. I hadn’t thought of that.” They both started walking downstairs, and as soon as Justin stepped on the floor, he said,
“Excuse me, let me get something from my car.” Justin went outside, got into his car, and closed the door. Once he felt safe, he took out Sadie’s phone and saw the numerous missed calls.
“Should I use Sadie’s phone to send messages to Daisy? It might help her calm down,” he thought, nodding his head. He held her phone in front of his eyes, unsure of what to write at first.
“What should I type?” he asked himself, feeling like he was taking too long. He quickly typed the following message:
“Hi Daisy, I’m sorry I didn’t tell you where I was going. I’m on a date with a guy I met at your dad’s party, and my phone was on silent. I’ll give you a call later. I’m quite busy now. I miss you. Please tell your dad that I’m okay. I also saw his missed calls. Bye, love you.”
Using Sadie’s phone, Justin sent the message to Daisy’s phone. He was about to get out of his car when Daisy ran towards him, her face filled with joy.
“Dad, dad, Sadie is on a date. Look at what she just sent me.”
“Let me see,” Justin pretended to be surprised. He took Daisy’s phone and read the message.
“Now I can finally relax,” he touched his chest. “Why didn’t she tell you in the first place?” he added.
“I don’t know. That’ll be my first question when she gets back,” she replied.
“So, where are you going from here?” Justin asked.
“I think I’ll wait for Sadie to come back. I already told my mum that I might not come back today, but I didn’t tell her the real reason I left home. Lately, I don’t like how she’s been handling certain matters, especially concerning Sadie.”
“What? What matters?” Justin asked.
Daisy burst out laughing, remembering what her mum had said about her dad showing affection for Sadie.
“Don’t worry about it. It’s not important,” she kept smiling.
“What if Sadie wakes up?” Justin thought, as they were still outside the house.
“Excuse me for a moment,” Justin hurried inside and went to his room. After locking the door, he took a piece of paper and a pen and wrote,
“Sadie, please don’t panic when you wake up. I’m the one who put you in this room. Also, Daisy is here. I’ll be checking on you from time to time.” He folded the note and placed it in Sadie’s right hand while she was still asleep. He took her gown he hid in his room and used it to cover her naked body, then he left the room. As he was about to lock the door, Sadie’s phone in his pocket vibrated. He reached into his pocket, took out the phone, and opened the message.
“My love, why are you keeping your new relationship a secret from me? What have I done to deserve this? Aren’t I your best friend?”
When Justin saw this message, he thought Daisy would continue sending more messages. He quickly typed back,
“Don’t worry, I will get back to you. I’m really sorry, you’re still my best friend. When we meet in person, I’ll explain everything. Please don’t text me again, I’m perfectly safe.”
A few minutes later, Daisy was still in the sitting room. When she saw her dad coming, she stood up and showed him the new message, saying,
“Look at what Sadie sent again.”
After Justin read the message, he tapped his daughter on the right shoulder.
“She’s safe wherever she is right now. There’s no need to panic. Hmm… are you leaving?”
“No, I’m waiting for her to come back here. I just don’t like the way she treated me.”
That statement caught Justin off guard.
“Okay, if that’s the case, I’m going to my room to rest.”
Justin left the sitting room and went to his room again, and he quickly locked the door. He opened the other door and saw that Sadie was still asleep. At this point, he didn’t know what to do – whether to wake her up or let her sleep until she woke up naturally. He took another piece of paper and wrote the following:
“My beloved Sadie, your phone is on the table. Please text me when you wake up so I can open the door for you from the outside. Daisy is in the house waiting for you.”
He placed the note in Sadie’s other hand and put her phone on the table before leaving the room.
Three hours later, close to 6 pm, Daisy and Justin were sitting at the dining table, having their meal, when they heard a knock on the door. Only Justin knew where the sound was coming from.
“Where are they knocking?” Daisy asked, and instantly, Justin’s mind raced as he thought, “Didn’t she see my notes? Why does she want to make a fool out of me in front of my daughter?”
After a few seconds, they heard the sound again.
“The sound is coming from that direction,” Daisy pointed towards Justin’s room.
“Are you sure?” he asked, and as he was about to stand up, he received a text message. The sound of the message caught Daisy’s attention. Justin discreetly took out his phone, opened the message, and
it was from Sadie.
“Where am I?” she asked.
