Where can I sleep?

Author's pov

Gianna sat in her office chair, tapping her fingers on the desk anxiously. Dressed in a sleek black suit, worry filled her eyes. They darted around the room, unable to settle on one spot. Suddenly, her phone beeped, and she quickly grabbed it, hoping for a particular message. But what she saw wasn't what she expected. Startled, she dropped her phone on the desk and stood up.

Despite her professional dress, Gianna's youthful figure couldn't be concealed. She was tall, in her early twenties, and her hips subtly caught the attention of who looked at her. Checking her wristwatch, she realized it was almost break time. She gave her legs a firm tap on the floor before leaving her office and heading straight into a colleague's workspace, not bothering to knock.

"Sarah, when did you last see Dylan?" Gianna asked urgently.

Sarah sighed, accustomed to this question.

"How many times do I have to tell you, Dylan went to his parents' anniversary. Didn't he ask you to join him?" she replied. The two of them exchanged glances, and Gianna struggled to find the right words.

"He did tell me, but shouldn't he still be texting me as he always does? It's been three to four days, and I haven't heard from Dylan..."

Sarah raised an eyebrow. "Are you blaming Dylan now? That handsome young man has been pursuing you for so long. How can you expect him to stay single with his charm?"

"You're blaming me?” Gianna opened her hands in frustration.

"Yes. He even pleaded with you to go to his parents' anniversary, but you turned him down," Sarah continued. Seeing the pain her words caused, she paused and then apologized.

"I'm sorry," she said after a brief silence.

Gianna felt lost. "What should I do? I've never called him. He's always been the one reaching out, waking me up with romantic messages. Can you call him and ask about me while putting the phone on speaker?"

"Okay," Sarah agreed, taking out her phone and dialing Dylan's number. After a few moments, the phone began to ring.

"Hello, Sarah," Dylan's delighted voice rang through the phone.

"How was your dad's anniversary?" Sarah asked.

"It was great," Dylan replied.

"It seems like going back to your parents' city made you forget about those who care for you here," Sarah teased. Dylan smiled and responded, "I'm back. I returned the following day."

"Really?" Sarah and Gianna exclaimed simultaneously, but Dylan only heard Sarah's voice as Gianna spoke softly.

"Yes, I have something to take care of in my office. By the way, have you heard from Gianna lately?" Dylan asked.

"Hmm... not really. I've been going through a lot since you returned, coupled with my office work. I haven't heard from her," Dylan reluctantly admitted. The sadness in his voice broke Gianna's heart, and she took the phone, ending the call. Sarah understood Gianna's emotional state and refrained from criticizing her for her actions.

"Do you think Dylan might have met someone else, maybe his ex-girlfriend, during his parents' anniversary?" Gianna began, but before she could finish, Dylan called again, and the phone began to ring.

"Are you going to answer it?" Sarah asked Gianna.

"It's up to you. You answer it," Gianna replied. Sarah picked up the call and quickly said, "Oh, sorry, I accidentally ended the call."

"Okay, can we talk later? I'm busy now," Dylan said.

"No problem," Sarah ended the call this time and looked at Gianna, who frowned.

"You need to take action as soon as possible. I think Dylan is going through a tough time," Sarah advised.

"He has already made me fall in love with him..." Gianna slowly said.

"Are you sure, or is it just because he hasn't called or texted, and you started feeling his importance?" Sarah asked.

"We're talking about the same thing. Do you expect me to rush into a relationship with him just to find out if he truly loves me?”

"But you took too much of your time to find out he is in love with you. I won't lie to you. You're my friend, and I have to be honest. However, all hope is not lost. I suggest you visit Dylan as soon as possible. What Dylan might be going through might not be related to you. Hopefully, if you show him that you're now interested, the relationship can work out perfectly."

"Thank you so much," Gianna said while still standing. "Let me go to my office."

"It's break time. Let's go have lunch," Sarah suggested.

"Hmm... I don't have the appetite. I just want to rest my head and let all these emotions settle," Gianna said and tightened his lips.

"If that's the case, I'll buy your favorite food and bring it to your office," Sarah replied.

"Thank you so much, Sarah. You're a sweetheart," Gianna said gratefully, giving Sarah a hug before returning to her office.

Once inside, Gianna closed the door, walked over to her desk, and sat down. She rested her head on the surface, feeling the weight of her emotions. Taking out her phone, she opened the last romantic message she received from Dylan, which was about four days ago.

"In another lifetime, I will remember you. Loving and knowing you has opened my eyes, and it's the most incredible experience I've ever had. Being without you as my girlfriend has left me lost in darkness. Without you, I doubt I'll find my way out. Nothing else matters as long as I'm with you. Meeting you was never a mistake. You deserve the best, and I'll always strive to be the best for you. I'm ready to overcome any obstacles that stand between us. You're an angel who has sacrificed her wings. I love you more than any challenges that may try to keep us apart. Have a wonderful day.”

It was evening, and Dylan was in his room upstairs when he heard a knock on his door. He was wearing a white singlet and blue boxers, and his eyes were analyzing a report on his computer. Upon hearing the knock downstairs, he immediately reached for his phone to check for any missed calls.

"No missed calls. Who could it be?" he pondered. Glancing at the wall clock, he noticed it was already 6:30 pm. Hurriedly putting on his trousers, he made his way downstairs as the knocking continued, holding his shirt in hand.

"I'm coming!" he called out, his voice slightly raised. Due to his haste, he struggled to finish buttoning his shirt.

"Gianna?" he asked, surprised, as he opened the door.

"Surprised to see me?" she asked, wearing a light gown and a visible black bra, her smile brightening the moment.

"Yes," Dylan replied, taken aback.

"Is it wrong to check on a good friend who seemed to have forgotten about me?" she asked playfully.

"No, of course not..."

"Aren't you going to invite me inside? You're still standing at the doorpost," Gianna teased.

"Okay, come inside," Dylan stepped aside, allowing Gianna to enter. This was her first time visiting Dylan's house despite his numerous invitations.

"Well, this is a surprise visit," Dylan remarked, trying to regain his composure.

"Yes, it was intentional. I believe there's joy in surprising someone you care about. You've been inviting me for dinner countless times and you even said you are a good cook, and today, I'm here for my dinner," Gianna said with a mischievous smile.

Dylan widened his eyes by the unexpected visit, unsure of what to say in response to Gianna's words.

"Oh no, but I haven't cooked anything today. How are we going to manage?" he expressed his concern.

"Cook for me," Gianna replied without hesitation.

"Could we please do this on another day? I'm busy upstairs with some work. I'd prefer to make it happen another time. But that doesn't mean I can't offer you a glass of wine," Dylan said. He walked towards the bar, retrieved a bottle of wine and a glass, and began pouring the wine into the glass.

After almost filling the glass, he approached Gianna, who was still standing.

"He didn't even ask me to sit down," she thought to herself.

"Oh, sorry. Please have a seat," Dylan apologized, gesturing towards the chair. They both sat down as Gianna took the wine from his hand. The room fell into complete silence.

"Doesn't he seem excited to see me?" Gianna wondered, stealing occasional glances at Dylan. "I hope I will not let him slip my hands because of my negligence. Look at his broad chest, attractive muscles, and emotionally captivating face. Why didn't I notice all of this when he couldn't sleep without me? Could there be another woman upstairs with him, causing him to want me to leave early and go back to his room? How can I bring that person out of his room? This is an opportunity to show him how much I care..." Her thoughts wandered as she glanced around.

"Did you see your friend Sarah at work today?" Dylan interrupted her thoughts.

"Yes, yes," Gianna nodded, caught off guard by Dylan's question, which disrupted her train of thought.

"What can I do to avoid going home right now? I need to come up with something," she pondered once again.

"Wouldn't you like to have your own glass of wine? You're just staring at me. It's not as fun to drink alone," Gianna smiled flirtatiously.

"I don't feel like drinking right now," Dylan replied, and at that moment Gianna sent a text message to Sarah texted, telling her to say she wasn't home if she received a call.

"What's the alcohol percentage in this wine?" she raised her glass and asked, while also checking her phone for any response from Sarah.

"Ten percent," Dylan answered.

"Is that why I'm feeling a bit dizzy? I don't think I can drink at home tonight," Gianna stated, contemplating her next move.

"Really? If it's not safe for you to drive, let's call Sarah, and you can stay the night at her place," Dylan said and Sarah's place was just a stone's throw.

"Wow, that's a good idea," Gianna said, taking out her phone and dialing Sarah's number.

"Hello, Sarah. Where are you? Are you at home?" Gianna asked.

"Are you coming?" Sarah replied, sounding somewhat disappointed.

"Yes!"

"Oh no, I'm not at home. I went to my boyfriend's place," she replied.

"Where can I sleep then?" Gianna asked like someone who had lost hope, ending the call, and turning her attention back to Dylan.
