Who’s texting you this late?

Dora stood in the middle of the room, her heart racing as she held the small, velvet-covered box in her hands. She had been planning this moment for weeks, and now that it was here, she felt a mix of excitement and nervousness. Austin, her husband, was standing a few feet away, his eyes fixed on her with a look of curiosity and amusement. He had no idea what was coming, and that made her even more eager to see his reaction.

“Your return gift is ready,” Dora said, her voice brimming with enthusiasm. She couldn’t help but grin as she watched Austin’s expression shift from confusion to intrigue. He tilted his head, studying her from head to toe, as if trying to figure out what she was up to. But there was no obvious clue—no change in her appearance, no hint in her demeanor. She was just Dora, standing there with a mischievous smile and a box in her hands.

Austin, unfazed by the lack of any visible surprise, took a step toward her. His eyes burned with a familiar intensity, the kind that always made her heart skip a beat. Before she could say anything, he closed the distance between them, his hands finding her waist as he pulled her close. “I know you’re always ready for me, baby,” he murmured, his voice low and teasing.

Dora’s breath caught in her throat as he leaned in, his lips capturing hers in a kiss that was both tender and demanding. She melted into it for a moment, her hands clutching the box tightly as she tried to steady herself. But then she remembered the gift, the reason she had called him over in the first place. She tried to pull away, to tell him to wait, but Austin only deepened the kiss, his hands moving to cradle her face.

It wasn’t until she gently bit his lower lip that he finally broke the kiss, his eyes widening in surprise. “I’m not your gift,” Dora said, her tone playful but firm as she wiggled out of his arms. She held up the box, her grin widening as she watched his expression shift from confusion to curiosity.

“Then what is this?” Austin asked, his voice slightly breathless as he gestured to the box. He had clearly been expecting something else entirely—something far less tangible and far more intimate. But Dora wasn’t about to let him off the hook that easily.

“Open it,” she said, her eyes sparkling with anticipation. Austin couldn’t help but smile at her excitement, his curiosity piqued as he took the box from her hands. He lifted the lid carefully, and as he did, the four sides of the box fell away, revealing another smaller box inside. The sides of the inner box were adorned with pictures of him, along with two handwritten messages.

The first message read: I felt the luckiest when I met you that day.
The second said: And that very moment, my heart started beating for you.

Austin’s eyes widened as he read the words, his heart swelling with emotion. He looked up at Dora, his surprise evident. “This is…” he began, but the words caught in his throat. He had always thought he was the one who had fallen in love at first sight, the one who had been completely captivated by her from the very beginning. But now, seeing her confession written so plainly, he realized she had felt the same way all along.

Dora’s grin softened into a smile as she watched him process the words. “Wait, there’s more,” she said, her voice gentle but eager. She nodded toward the box, encouraging him to keep going.

Austin opened the lid of the next box, and once again, the sides fell away to reveal another layer. This time, the sides were covered in pictures from their wedding day. Austin’s eyes scanned the photos, noticing how Dora was always looking at him with such depth and affection, even when he was distracted or smiling at something else. It was a side of their relationship he hadn’t fully appreciated before, and it left him speechless.

“Check the lid,” Dora said softly, her voice pulling him out of his thoughts. Austin turned the lid over and saw another note written in her handwriting: Just when I thought it was impossible to love you anymore, you proved me wrong.

His throat tightened as he read the words, his emotions threatening to spill over. He blinked back the tears that had gathered in his eyes, knowing full well that Dora would tease him endlessly if she saw him cry. But he couldn’t help the overwhelming sense of love and gratitude that washed over him.

Without waiting for her to prompt him, Austin opened the next box, revealing pictures from their mini honeymoon. Each photo captured a moment of joy and intimacy, a reminder of how much they had grown together since their wedding day. He turned the lid over and read the next message: The more I spend time with you, the more I fall in love with you. Every day, my love for you grows stronger.

By now, Austin was completely overwhelmed. He set the box down on the bed and pulled Dora into a tight embrace, holding her as if he never wanted to let go. They stood there for what felt like an eternity, neither of them willing to break the moment.

“I love you, Dora,” Austin whispered, his voice thick with emotion.

“I love you more,” Dora replied, her voice muffled against his chest. She felt him chuckle, the sound vibrating through her as he held her even tighter.

After a long moment, Austin finally pulled back, his eyes falling on the last box. “Wait, there’s something in here,” he said, his curiosity reignited as he reached for it. He opened the lid, only to find a small packet inside. Dora’s eyes widened in surprise as she realized what it was.

“I swear I didn’t put that there!” she exclaimed, her face turning bright red as she tried to wriggle out of his grip. But Austin only laughed, pulling her closer as he teased her.

“You have to take responsibility now,” he said, his voice full of amusement. “You can’t make excuses after getting caught.”

Dora glared at him, but her protests were cut short as he pulled her onto the bed, his laughter mingling with hers as they lost themselves in each other once again.

As the room filled with their laughter and the warmth of their shared love, a faint buzzing sound interrupted the moment. Austin’s phone, forgotten on the nightstand, lit up with a series of notifications. Dora glanced over, her curiosity piqued as she saw the screen flash with a name she didn’t recognize.

“Who’s texting you this late?” she asked, her voice light but tinged with suspicion.

Austin froze for a split second, his smile faltering as he reached for the phone. “Probably just work,” he said quickly, his tone a little too casual. He silenced the phone and set it aside, but Dora couldn’t shake the uneasy feeling that settled in her chest.

Before she could press further, Austin leaned in to kiss her again, his touch softer this time, as if trying to distract her. And for a moment, it worked. But as Dora closed her eyes, the image of that unfamiliar name lingered in her mind, a tiny seed of doubt that refused to be ignored.
