Meeting Ryan
Daisy's pov
I was on my way to my grandparents' house when I realized that things weren't going well in my life. I tried to ignore it and blamed Sadie for all my discomfort. But now I understand that it wasn't just her betrayal that was causing me unrest. As I had both hands on the steering wheel, I spoke the words out loud,
"Where is Douglas, my boyfriend?"
I fell silent and started reflecting on my life, starting from the event I organized to humiliate Sadie and my son called foster father. That was the only time I saw Douglas. He had said he couldn't make it, but he showed up at the last moment. I didn't see him at the hospital, and he didn't call me when I was there. It's clear that I've been the one pushing our relationship forward. My slight negligence resulted in me not hearing from him.
I decided not to call him and continued driving at a normal speed. But my tender heart couldn't stop thinking about him. I wished my heart could be as strong as it was towards Sadie. I would have been happy if I could show the same attitude towards Douglas.
"Why don't you call him? He might be going through something," a thought struck me. These kinds of thoughts and words have kept our relationship growing. I nodded and removed one hand from the steering wheel as I emotionally fought the urge to call my boyfriend. I thought I could handle it, but the desire to call him was too strong, and I gave in as usual. I took my phone and as I was about to dial his number, I asked myself,
"Is it right for me to call Douglas? He should have been the one to call me. I've been through a lot, and I always want people around me to help me cope with what Sadie and my... my dad did to me. Regardless of whether he's my biological dad or not, he was the one I knew and respected as my dad. They both broke my heart." Meanwhile, my phone was in my hand, and one of my fingers was about to dial his number. Finally, I dialed the number, and by that time, I was close to my grandparents' house. As the phone started ringing, I slowed down the car, expecting him to pick up, but he didn't. The call ended. I continued driving and dialed again, but he still didn't answer. I decided to wait.
When I arrived at my grandparents' house and before getting out of the car, I dialed Douglas' number for the third time, and I got the shock of my life.
"Can you call him back? My sweetheart is taking a bath," a female voice said, and the call froze me. My hand held the phone against my ear, and I couldn't say a word until she ended the call on her side.
This was what Sadie had been saying. Douglas had been cheating on me. Bitterness rose from my stomach to my throat, and it was evident that I was angry. I sat there for about ten minutes until my grandma saw me through the window. She ran out of the house and came to me.
"Daisy, what's wrong?" She opened the door and gently pulled me out.
"Please come inside. Don't be sad, please," she held my hand, and we went inside.
"We heard about the situation. I still strongly believe that your friend was the reason your parents separated," Rachel said before Dan walked in. Dan was in his room and unaware that I was there.
"Daisy, you came?" Dan expected the usual enthusiastic response as we always greeted each other warmly.
"Her best friend broke her heart. She was sleeping with her dad on her behalf," Rachel said, and Dan approached Daisy, holding her right hand.
"We heard about it. Don't be sad. You will overcome it."
"She will not only overcome it, her friend needs to face the consequences of what she's done. I will make sure she regrets it," My grandma chimed in. When the room fell silent, Dan added,
"Justin was like a son to me. Why would he treat my daughter that way? I remember what I did to ensure he ended up with my daughter. I regret letting my personal desires shape her life. She had someone she wanted to marry, but I stood in her way. I know the effort and resources I put into it, which caused your mum's boyfriend to leave the city years ago." He shook his head and continued, "I've learned my lesson. Will Juliana even find someone to love her the way..."
"You mean Johnson?" I interrupted.
"Yes, your mum must have told you," he asked.
"Yes, she told me everything, and she is with Johnson now as we speak."
Dan immediately turned and looked at his wife, saying, "It means what you said will come true."
"Yes, I told you, but that doesn't mean I won't make my granddaughter’s best friend pay for the pain she caused Daisy."
"How are you going to do that?" I asked my grandma.
"I don't need to tell you. Forget about it. I know what to do," Rachel smiled.
My grandparents did their best to cheer me up, but my sadness was no longer solely due to my best friend's betrayal; it was also about my boyfriend's infidelity. I couldn't tell them about it. While they were in front of me, my mind was filled with pain, and then my phone rang. I reached into my bag for my phone, and it was my boyfriend calling. I didn't want to answer such a call in front of my grandparents because I might get upset. I held the phone and went inside my room, and as I closed the door, the call ended. I waited for a while, and my phone rang again.
"Are you done with your new girlfriend?" This was my first statement.
"Sweetheart, why would you say such a thing? I asked one of the actresses to pick up the call. I told you we are casting a short movie for advertising."
"You never told me anything like that. When did you start making short films?" I asked, surprised and before he replied to me, I added, “she even called you sweetheart.”
“Why would she say something like that? Daisy, acting has always been a part of me."
"Are you saying the woman who answered my call is your colleague, your new girlfriend, or what are you telling me?"
"Yes, she is my colleague."
"Then send me some of the video clips that you and the actresses have filmed. I want to see them now."
"Now?" He sounded surprised.
"Yes, now."
"But they haven't edited it."
"That's what I want, Douglas."
"Okay, give me a few minutes. If this is how you want to end the relationship, fine. I guess you must be seeing someone else that's why you are saying all of this. When there's no trust in a relationship, what comes next? Isn't it a breakup? I know I haven't been attentive to you, especially since the day of the event. I'm sorry. But I remember calling you when you got home. I know I didn't do what I should have done, but that shouldn't be enough for you to accuse me of cheating."
"When did I say that? I said a lady called you sweetheart." I asked.
"Your body language says it all. You suspect me. It's unfair. You started interrogating me as if everything I said was a lie, wanting to prove me wrong.”
"I'm not saying you're lying to me. Alright, fine. When will you be back?"
"I'll give you a call..."
"Daisy... Where are you?" I heard my grandma's voice at the doorpost.
"Where are you?" Douglas asked.
"I'm at my grandparents' house."
"Okay, I'll call you later." He ended the call.
"Daisy..." I heard her voice again, and I came out of the room to meet my grandma in the living room but deep inside me, I wasn't satisfied with what Douglas said.
"Grandma, I'm here," I said as I entered the living room.
"Are you interested? I know you will be. A friend of ours has invited us to her dinner party."
"Wherever you're comfortable, I'll be comfortable. When are we going?"
"In an hour from now. I want you to go to your room and get ready," she replied.
"Okay, grandma. I love you." I walked up to her and hugged her, and as I was going to my room, my grandpa said,
"Don't I need a hug?" He asked with a smirk.
"You do," I turned and hugged him.
We all laughed, and I went to my room and started getting dressed up. As I was bathing, all the conversations between Douglas and me kept replaying in my mind, and I couldn't think of anything else.
Is Douglas telling the truth or am I just being deceived by my emotions? I asked myself as I stepped out of the bathroom. I couldn't answer myself, so I got dressed in a pink gown and took my small bag with pink stripes.
"I'm ready!"
That was my first statement when I entered the living room, and surprisingly, they weren't there. I sat down and waited for them.
"You look so beautiful," my grandma said as she entered the living room.
We all came out and got into the car. I wanted to drive, but my grandpa refused, and he was the one who drove the car away.
The trip took about thirty minutes, and when we arrived, it was already dark outside, and we stopped in front of a beautiful mansion.
"Welcome!" A sophisticated lady, like my grandma, came out and greeted us. She hugged each one of us, and when it was my turn, she said,
"Is this your beautiful granddaughter you told me about?"
"Yes," my grandma said.
"But she's even more beautiful than what you said on the phone." We all laughed and went inside.
The house was incredibly beautiful, with artwork on every wall. This woman's name was Nancy, and as we sat in the living room, Nancy's husband came out and welcomed us with handshakes. I thought it was just the two of them in the house, but surprisingly, a handsome young man walked into the living room. After greeting my grandparents, he approached me, shook my hand, and unexpectedly kissed the back of my hand. I felt a surge of emotions, and he gazed at me before saying,
"Welcome my dear! My name is Ryan. You're the most beautiful lady I've ever met." Then he took out a rose from his pocket and gave it to me. At that moment, I couldn't help but wonder if this was a dinner party or if my grandparents wanted me to meet Ryan.
