Am I Mad?

Sadie's pov

When Leo's message appeared on my phone, I felt a mix of pain and anger and this wasn't the way I expected it to be. It transported me back to a time when I eagerly awaited his messages and made my last encounter with him vivid in my mind. I thought I could handle it easily, but that wasn't how I truly felt. It was an overwhelming sense of discomfort. I couldn't eat, my expression changed, and deep down, I wanted to read what he had sent. Did my unconscious mind need a relief from him to move on? I was totally amazed how my body reacted.
I needed to leave the dining table, but I didn't want either Daisy or Justin to follow me. So I forced a smile and looked at Justin, saying,
"I'm okay." Even though I had lost my appetite, I managed to put a couple of spoons of food into my mouth. As soon as Daisy and Justin returned their attention to their meals, I stood up and said,
"I need to use the restroom. I'm finished eating."
"But there's still a lot of food on your plate," Daisy asked and pointed.
"If that's the case, I'll eat it later," I replied, standing up and heading to my room. On my way, just before reaching my room, I overheard Justin asking his daughter,
"What's wrong with your friend?" Since I didn't stop to listen, I missed what Daisy told him.
I entered my room and went into the restroom, locking the door behind me. I took out my phone and tapped on Leo's message, and it opened. I took a deep breath before reading.
"My dear Sadie, my thought of leaving you was the dumbest decision I've ever made. I am truly sorry for what I did. You are irreplaceable and exceptional. I was deceived by my eyes and got carried away. The way I treated you was incredibly unfair, and now I realize that it's because you are the one I needed. Even after we broke up and I was on stage at the award ceremony, my heart kept troubling me. I love you, and if I didn't, I wouldn't have come back begging you. Please, I want you back in my life. Just a few months without you, and I could feel the difference. You are unique. Now that I understand your worth, I will treat you with more care and affection. Consider everything I did as a horrible dream, and you've woken up. I'm still questioning myself about what came over me. I suppose I was hypnotized, but now I am back to reality. Please, come back to me, and I will cherish you with all my heart and soul. We all make mistakes, so forgive me. I deserve a slap from you as a sign of your satisfaction…"
"Idiot!" I muttered under my breath. I didn't even realize when I said it aloud. I stopped reading the letter because it was no longer making sense to me.
Does he think I'm some naive girl who once loved him? Where is Tasha? I was hoping he would mention her in his message. I'm not some leftover meal he can come back to whenever he pleases.
As I exited the restroom, I deleted the message without finishing it. There was no point in reading all that he had sent. I then sat on the chair near my dressing table, close to the window. I kept gazing outside, daydreaming about the day we would celebrate Justin's new house. That was the only thought bringing me joy. The setting would be special, with Daisy's boyfriend present, creating an opportunity for me to have an intimate night with Justin. Just one night with him would help me overcome my emotional turmoil and then go back to my city. I caught myself smiling and closed my eyes, trying to visualize how that day would unfold. Suddenly, my phone rang, interrupting my pleasant thoughts.
I turned my attention to the phone on the table and checked who was calling me. I had no intention of answering Leo's call, but it turned out to be my mum. Seeing her name filled my heart with a certain level of joy. I answered the call and spoke first, saying,
"Hi, Mom, Leo just sent me an annoying message a few minutes ago..."
"And I have an annoying piece of news about what happened to Leo's relationship with the girl he left with," she replied.
"Really?" I felt a surge of excitement, eager to hear what had transpired. "So what happened?" I asked.
"It was the best thing that could have happened to someone's enemy."
"What happened?" I asked again, her words fueling a unique thrill within me.
"His girlfriend simply vanished, and the next thing he saw on TV was her getting married to a wealthy man. That's what I heard."
"Who told you mommy?"
"A neighbor when I came outside, and it seems my neighbor spotted him."
"Whatever happened to him is his own business. Our breakup has had a positive impact on me, and I now know what I truly want," I said.
"One thing I'm glad about is that you are not willing to go back to Leo. I was worried you might change your mind," my mum said.
"Not at all. Why would I change my mind for him? Haven't I learned my lessons?"
"Okay, babe. We'll talk later."
"Alright, Mum. I miss you."
"I miss you too," I replied, and she ended the call. Just then, two things happened simultaneously—Daisy entered my room, and my phone rang once again. Daisy walked up to me, noticing my hesitation to answer the call, and she asked,
"Aren't you going to pick it up?"
The ringing continued in the background, and I decided to silence it.
"Who is it?" she inquired, standing behind me. Without saying a word, I grabbed the phone and showed her the screen before the call ended.
"Leo again," I said, placing the phone on the table.
"I knew this would happen," Daisy confidently stated. Her words made me turn my chair to face her as she sat on the edge of the bed.
"How did you know?" I asked curiously.
"Good girls are hard to find. Leo couldn't see your worth when he was with Tasha. I knew it. Leo must have been out of his mind from the start. Are you thinking of going back to him?" She asked.
"Do I look crazy? Going back to Leo is the last thing on my mind. Just the thought of it makes me angry. It's not going to happen, not in a million years," I said with utmost seriousness.
"So be it," Daisy closed her eyes and shrugged in a way that almost annoyed me.
"Are you mocking me?" I asked.
"No, no, I'm assuming you won't go back to him. I thought the reason you haven't pursued any relationships is because of your lingering feelings for Leo. I was waiting for you to suggest going to that bar again, but as time passed, it became clear that you weren't interested in having a boyfriend. And now that Leo wants you back, I'm worried..." She suddenly paused when there was a knock on the door, followed by Justin's voice.
"Daisy, please go and see who's at the door," Justin requested.
"Okay, Dad," Daisy replied. As she was about to leave my room, she suggested,
"Why don't you come with me? Let's check who's at the door together."
"Okay," I reluctantly agreed. I knew that any sign of sadness from me might make Daisy draw connections to Leo. We both exited my room like twin sisters holding hands and reached the living room, although my expression remained gloomy. As Daisy approached the front door, I waited, and she proceeded to open the door.
"Eric!" she exclaimed. She was surprised and embraced him in a hug. The name Eric sounded familiar to me, but I couldn't quite recall where I had heard it before. While I was still pondering over it, Daisy and Eric entered the living room, and he appeared lost in thought when he looked at me.
"Isn't this Sadie?" he asked, leaving Daisy astonished. She knew we hadn't met before, so how did he know my name?
"Yes, this is Sadie, my best friend. How do you know her?" Daisy asked, her curiosity evident. It was at that moment that I remembered he was Justin's younger brother.
"You're as beautiful as you appeared on the video call," he complimented me.
"Did you two already know each other online?" Daisy smiled, her gaze fixed on me as if I had been keeping something from her.
"It was your dad who was on a video call, and Eric happened to see me," I demonstrated with my hands, then pointing towards him.
"Hmm... and did you like what you saw?" Daisy teased, causing Eric to smile.
"Please, I need to do something in my room," I interjected, feeling the need for some space. As I turned and was going to my room, I overheard Eric asking Daisy for a favor, but I couldn't make out the details as I closed my door upon entering my room.
"I hope I'm not the reason he came," I muttered to myself, placing my hands on my waist. After about six minutes, my door opened without a knock and I found Daisy smiling at me. I was sitting on the bed, and when I saw the expression on her face, I couldn't decide whether to laugh because of her infectious smile or to maintain a serious expression.
"Sadie, can we talk?" she asked.
