Confused about what?
How lovely and affectionate it would have been to make love with my best friend's dad. I won’t deny it—since I arrived here, he has captured my heart. Just the sight of him arouses me. But the man at the hotel understood my emotions, and that’s why I’m going to meet the new love of my life. However, I’ve noticed some changes between Justin and me. I started to wonder if it was because Daisy told him that I was going to meet the love of my life, and that’s why he has been distancing himself from me gradually.
He used to find joy in visiting my room, especially when I was alone, always finding ways to hold my hand. But now, he spends more time in his own room, and even when Daisy isn’t around, he no longer comes to see me. I still cherish him, even though I’m going to meet the man I’ve been hoping for. Since he doesn’t come close to me like before, I miss him. At the same time, I remind myself that we’re not in a romantic relationship, so I need to control my feelings.
It was Thursday morning, and the next day I would be returning to my hometown. I was so excited that I took out my phone in my room and called my mom.
“Hello, Mommy, how are you doing?” I asked, lying on the bed with my belly down, facing the window.
“I’m fine, Sadie,” she replied.
“Guess what?”
“You found a boyfriend?” she teased.
“Hmm… no, no…”
“Quiet!” she said, making me pause. “Do you think I don’t know that was the reason Daisy took you away?”
“Mum…?” I dragged out her name in protest.
“Am I lying? Daisy told me she was setting you up with someone so you could forget about Leo.”
“So Daisy told you that? When?” I asked, a smile creeping into my tone.
“When she invited you over to her place.”
“Okay, but what I’m about to say is quite different. I’m coming home. I’ll be spending a few days before returning here.”
“Really? When are you coming?” she asked, surprised.
“Tomorrow.”
“Tomorrow?” she repeated in disbelief.
“Yes, I’ll stay for a few days and then come back.”
“I hope Leo doesn’t know you’re coming. He might try to pursue you.”
“Let him come. I’ve rejected him. I’ve moved on. There’s no way I’ll let him back into my life.”
“I’m glad to hear that,” she said, lightening up. “You’re no longer the teary lady who left here many weeks ago.”
“No, and no, please. I’ll call you later,” I said as I heard a knock on my door.
“Come inside, the door’s not locked!” I shouted, but the knocking continued. Quickly, I realized I’d locked it by mistake. I rushed to the door and opened it.
“You locked the door,” Daisy said, eyeing me curiously. Before she could assume anything, I said, “I was calling my mom before you start thinking otherwise.”
She burst into laughter. “I’m not suspecting you. Did you think I was implying that you locked the door to talk to Leo?”
“It wouldn’t have been difficult for you to assume that,” I teased. We were still by the door when Justin approached us.
“Have you told her?” he asked Daisy.
“No, I just got here,” Daisy said.
“Okay, when you’re done, come to the living room. I’m waiting for both of you.”
Daisy and I exchanged glances before she led me inside. Once we were near my bed, she said, “My dad wants to buy you some clothes. It’s his way of wishing you well in your new relationship.”
“Relationship?” I asked, my heart racing at the thought of introducing someone older to Daisy.
“Bring his pictures when you come. I want to see him,” she said. But her words drifted past me as I became lost in thought.
“Sadie! Sadie!” Daisy’s voice snapped me back to reality.
“Oh, I’m with you.”
“No, you’re not. If you were, you’d have answered me,” Daisy said. Then she noticed my worried expression and asked, “Are you worried Leo will become a problem in your new relationship?”
“Hmmm… I’m confused,” I admitted.
“Confused about what? Are you afraid of entering a new relationship?”
“Yeah.”
“Come on, let’s go meet my dad,” Daisy said, not giving me a chance to think. She playfully dragged me out of the room.
As we entered the living room, Justin smiled and said, “Shall we go?”
And just like that, I found myself in his car again, sitting in the back with Daisy. It didn’t take long before Justin and I locked eyes through the rearview mirror. I quickly lowered mine, but the emotional tension between us was undeniable.
“Sadie, are you sure you’ll come back and attend my house opening?” Justin asked. Before I could answer, Daisy chimed in, “She’ll be coming to the party with her new boyfriend.”
I froze, my heart racing. Should I tell them the truth?
