Why am I so unlucky?

Sadie's pov

The moment I saw Daisy's boyfriend, I was unsure of what to do. Should I take a photo of him and the woman he was entering the hotel with, or should I mind my own business? I was confused, wondering if we were both engaging in the same behavior. Despite my troubled conscience, I decided to take out my phone and snap a photo of them. However, this sudden change of plan caused me to abandon the idea of going into the hotel. All my anticipation of being with Justin vanished from my mind. I was too afraid to approach the hotel; it felt like a lost battle. I needed to go back, which is why I had warned Justin that going to a hotel for our rendezvous would eventually lead to trouble. I was grateful that I had already made up my mind to return to my city.

As my thoughts were still in turmoil, my phone rang, and I knew without a doubt who it was. Justin had called a few minutes ago, and I had informed him that I was heading towards the hotel. But now, I was walking away from it. Regardless of my mood, the thought of Daisy finding out about my affair with her father made my heart race.

"Where are you?" Justin asked on the phone.

"Justin, I can't come. I saw Daisy's boyfriend..."

"Where?" he interrupted.

"In front of the hotel. I don't want to take any chances. Daisy has been so upset recently, and I don't want her to be angry with me..."

"So, what do you want me to do?"

"Daisy's party is in a few days. Right after the event, I will travel back to my city the next day, and you can come with me. In my city, I won't have any fears."

"Oh my god, you've ruined my mood,” Justin said.

"Please, let's go home. Oh, wait, come and take me to the salon. I want to get my hair done for Daisy's event."

"This is the worst day of the year for me," he concluded, ending the call.

A few minutes later, I heard the sound of his car approaching from behind, and I stopped and got in the first seat. Subconsciously, without even planning it, we kissed, holding each other tightly, not wanting to let go of each other's lips.

"I'm sorry for everything that happened..." I pulled away from his lips, and he quickly responded.

"What about the day of the event? Daisy would like to follow her boyfriend..." he paused. "Her cheating boyfriend?"

"Point of correction, I can't really say if he has cheated, but I saw him and a woman going into the hotel.”

"What would two adults want to do when they go to a hotel?"

"Please, don't assume things. There's no clear evidence. Do you expect me to tell Daisy? What can I say I came here for? I told Daisy I was going to get my hair done. Do you know how far I had to travel from home to get here? But deep down, I have a feeling that Daisy's boyfriend is cheating on her. He's not always in town. What kind of relationship is that? I can't live far away from my partner."

"Really? But soon you'll be going to your city, far, far away," Justin said with a wink.

"Our situation is different." I smiled, and then my phone started ringing. My first thought was that it was my mum calling. I thought she wanted to tell me she'd be coming to this city tomorrow. I took out my phone, and to my surprise, it was Daisy. Initially, I thought there was no problem until I answered the call.

"Hi Daisy," I gestured to Justin to stay quiet, and what I heard was,

"Where are you? I'm at the salon." This question caught me off guard, and honestly, I didn't know what to say. Should I say I'm still at home or where should I say I am?

"Oh…!” I stammered and continued, “I'm at the event center. The manager called me for something important, and we're having a meeting right now."

"I hope everything is alright, and the ceremony will still happen the day after tomorrow?" She asked with concern.

"Of course! That's why I'm here. Once I'm done with the meeting, I'll give you a call."

"Okay," Daisy said. As soon as she replied in a calmer tone, my heart rate went down. I didn't even know how I came up with that response. Dating Justin secretly has sharpened my quick thinking and ability to respond to any questions. The phone was still against my ear even after the call ended, and I had my eyes on Justin. Seeing the phone in my hand and against my ear, Justin kept looking at me, thinking that I was still listening to Daisy.

"You wouldn't believe the question Daisy just asked me."

"What?"

"I told her I was going to get my hair done, and guess what? She's there right now. I'm starting to get worried about how Daisy is always keeping tabs on me and wanting to know where I am. I hope she hasn't found out about our affair."

"I... I don't..."

"She wouldn't keep it to herself. She would have confronted me if she knew." I interrupted him, and then his phone rang, and it was Daisy calling. Then I started to wonder why it was such a coincidence.

Author's pov

It has been weeks since Stephanie  received the news of her breakup with James, only to discover that he was now dating her best friend. She was so devastated that she took an emergency three-week leave from work because the pain was unbearable.

"Why am I so unlucky? My boyfriend, who had never even met my best friend, broke up with me and got engaged to her. It's like being stabbed with a double-edged sword," she said to herself when it first happened. She immediately stopped contacting Juliana and didn't know whether to blame Juliana entirely for what happened or blame herself for knowing Juliana. During the days she spent at home, she resorted to drinking in an attempt to numb her broken heart.

Stephanie  was lying on her couch in the living room, with a half-filled glass of alcoholic wine on the table nearby. It was evening, and day after day, she thought about her friendship with Juliana.

"Why didn't Juliana cut ties with James because of what he did to me?" she pondered, stretching her hand to sip from her glass of wine before placing it back on the table.

"Am I going to continue lying here like a loser? I can't bear to see James and Juliana together while I'm around. It would be too painful."

While reflecting on how her life had turned out, an exciting thought suddenly crossed her mind, causing her to sit up and gaze at her glass of wine as if it were speaking to her.

"How can I be sure it will work?" she asked herself. "James told me he had done many terrible things in the past. Why don't I delve into his history, then reconcile with Juliana and reveal what James has done? Besides, he gave Juliana a false name. His real name is James, not Gabriel." With that, she stood up and walked around the table in the middle of the living room, nodding her head continuously as she pondered her next move.

She grabbed her phone and called one of the bartenders from the bar where she met James.

"Julius, I need you to do me a favor," she said.

"What favor?" a deep masculine voice replied.

"Do you know anyone who knows James well? I'm willing to pay any amount."

"Any amount?" he laughed.

"Yes, I'm serious."

"Come over at 8 pm, and let me hear why you need this information."

"You said 8 pm?" she confirmed.

"Yes!"

"Then I'll be there. Thank you.”
