Chapter 105:
**Jasper POV**
Every time I have seen Lucinda I am always amazed at how much Pythia looks like her and today it was as if they were looking into a mirror at each other. There is no denying that they are related, same hair, eyes, height and almost their skin tones. I listened carefully to what she was saying, I felt my skin prickle when Athea said we no longer have a week. We only had a day or two before this happened and even though Pythia thinks she hides her emotions well, she does not or at least not to Jenson and I. I could tell she was on edge and she felt like she wasn't ready but we all knew she was. Lucinda was about to separate Delilah and Pythia and as much as I wanted to take Apollo from her she didn't seem like she was going to give him up anytime soon. When she pulled Delilah from her I knew Pythia felt like she lost a part of herself. It's easy for us to cling on to our wolves even though it hasn't been a long time for her, Delilah was special to her. "I need to speak with the twins privately real quick and then we will be out with everyone." Lucinda said.
I looked up at her and she had a smile on her face, "What do you think she wants to talk about?" Jenson asked. "I have no clue honestly." I replied as everyone started making their way outside. When the door closed I turned my focus to her. My curiosity was piqued, we have never had a conversation with her before but I knew she was good. She was looking at us like she was studying us, "You know I watched the two of you growing up. I've been impressed time and time again." Lucinda said. "I think we have come a long way." I replied. "We only had each other to rely on until now." Jenson added. People never really understood why we follow each other's sentences and honestly I think it is just a twin thing. "You both are very strong. True leaders and protectors which is why I had set in motion years ago that you two would be protectors of Pythia and Tyes children and well as your own." Lucinda said. "So you set our lives into motion?" I asked. "Not in motion. Just through different things to get you both where you needed to be for this." Lucinda replied.
Jenson cleared his throat. "So what exactly is it that we are supposed to do? I know we have a special bond with Apollo but there is more to it right?" Jenson asked. We have both felt like there was more to what we are supposed to do but we never figured it out all the way. "Smart man you are, peace is almost within reach but there will be more trials and tribulations as the years go on. You both know that peace is never peaceful for long. There is always someone looking to overthrow the most powerful people." Lucinda replied. That didn't seem like much of an answer. "Well we all know that but we will keep the peace as well as we can." I said. "I can't tell you what the future holds, just know that both of you are more important than you think. You are very similar to Jack and Sammie the only thing you lack is the spirit element which I can not grant you but I am going to do something for both of you." Lucinda said, stepping forward.
My natural reaction was to step back, I never liked anyone in my personal space but I didn't move. "I can feel your emotions roll off of you. Why do you feel the need to step away from me?" Lucinda asked as she tilted her head to the side. "It's not you, we have always been like that." Jenson replied. "We taught ourselves to always be on guard. Growing up with no one we didn't know who to trust and who not to trust. Keeping people at a distance made us feel safer." I added. We were never treated badly but we did have our run in with the classic little asshole bullies who tried their hands at jumping out at us when we were kids. "Well I understand why you react the way you do but what I am going to do will help you." Lucinda said with a wide smile. "What are you going to do?'' I asked. "This must be kept a secret until after the fight, this is incredibly rare and I am the only one to ever have understood it?" Lucinda replied. We both nodded our heads and if this is something she is sharing with us that literally no one else can do then she must have a lot of faith in us.
"I could tell you what you are thinking right now. No I don't actually read minds, I get a sense of it. Like right now you think I have a lot of faith in you and that is true, I really do but I have all my faith in all of you." Lucinda said. I felt shock radiate through me, she really just did that. "My gift is much like Delilah. She can sense a persons intentions and know who they truly are, while I got a sense of peoples thoughts to know what they really think. We have been a fierce duo for centuries. I am going to share my gift with you boys." Lucinda said. I am shocked right now. I have a lot of questions though. "Just listen to her." Asher grumbled out. "Oh nice to see you are talking to me again brat." I grumbled back. He has been pouting ever since Beth got pregnant. He absolutely hates when we have to leave her for the day and he has been more testy with this fight coming up. She will be sent away to be safe and even though we both know nothing will happen to her we still don't like it.
"How will this help us?" I asked. "Because Ember will notify everyone of a change, their entry point and everything. You two will be able to know what they have in their heads on what they are going to do. If they are trying to set a trap or a change in their movements. Nothing will get by the two of you." Lucinda replied. "Okay, but how easy is it to manage? I mean there will be a lot going on at once." Jenson said. He had a point, we won't have the time to stop and figure it out. "It's very easy. It's not something you can control so everyones thoughts will hit you both like a tidal wave. Now I can filter it to where it is only the opposing threats thoughts." Lucinda replied. I ran my hand through my hair, "We will have to tell Pythia, if this is going to help us then the last thing I want her to do is freak out over this in the middle of everything." I said. "I agree, this is solely to help her and Delilah when they take on Bartholomew. He must never get the upper hand with either of them. They are very attached to each other." Lucinda replied.
That was true, Pythia and Delilah have gotten really close. "We aren't allowed to intervene in her fight though." I said. "Correct, but you can guide them both." Lucinda replied. "So how can we make sure he doesn't get the upper hand? If we can't fight with him, guiding them will only do so much." Jenson said. "You can always cause a distraction. Now all I need to know is if the two of you want the thoughts filtered." Lucinda said. I looked at Jenson, this was a decision we would both have to make. "Can you filter them out right before? I mean we could try to get used to it today and tomorrow and then you could filter them?" Jenson asked. "I could do that, it might make you two jumpy at first just try to contain it the best you can so that no one knows." Lucinda said. "We can do that. How is it going to feel?" I asked. "You'll feel a slight pressure. No pain at all, but as you look at people it's like what they are thinking is right on the surface. You don't have to figure it out like a puzzle you'll just know." Lucinda replied.
I took a deep breath and relaxed, this was certainly going to be a change but one that was needed to keep Pythia and Delilah safe.
**Jenson POV:**
Goliath was restless in my head and he was starting to give me a damned headache. "This is going to be a game changer Jenson." Goliath said rustling around. "Would you stop already? You are giving me a damn headache." I snapped. His growl echoed in my head and I mentally rolled my eyes. "Are you two ready?" Lucinda asked, pulling me from Goliath. "I am." Jasper replied. "Me too, let's get this done." I said, taking a deep breath. My eyes landed on Apollo who was staring at all of us. He seemed perfectly happy being right where he was even though I wanted nothing more than to hold him close, the bond we have with him is amazing and even though I can't biologically have kids Alex and I could always adopt. "Just relax. It'll be over before you know it." Lucinda said with a smile. I took another deep breath and relaxed my body, she said it wouldn't hurt and I would just have to trust that it wouldn't. She walked forward and stood directly in front of me.
I looked down at Apollo to see he was staring right at me with a drolly grin on his face, I smiled down at my little nephew, I felt Lucinda brush her hand down my face and I started to feel a little pressure before I felt like a gate had opened. I blinked a few times and looked around, so far everything seemed normal until I looked at Jasper. We have never been able to hide anything from each other, I guess it is just a twin thing but it was like I could see what he was trying to think. He was trying to figure out if I had any pain, and if I did how much of the pain I was feeling. This was a new feeling but so far it seemed manageable until we went back outside that is. I watched Lucinda step in front of Jasper, he was hesitant at first but then he relaxed. She did the same to him as she did to me and I watched the emotions go off his face, he closed his eyes for a brief second before he started blinking fast to let his eyesight adjust. "See, I told you it wouldn't hurt. Now do you see what I was talking about?" Lucinda asked, looking between us.
She was right, it didn't hurt. "So what do we do now?" I asked. "I think you need to tell your mates and Pythia. Then come outside with the rest of us and get use to all of this." Lucinda said. I went to step in front of her but she stopped in her tracks. "Apollo is safe with me, Delilah will be with us as well." Lucinda said before she started walking again. "Alex, can you come to the house please?" I asked through the link. "On my way." Alex replied happily. "I've already called Pythia and Beth. I told them to bring Tye as well." Jasper said, looking around. "How do you feel?" I asked. "I feel fine, different and curious. I just hope we figure this out in time, you know?" Jasper said with a huff. "We will, plus she said she would filter them before the fight." I replied. I heard the front door open and I didn't even need to turn around to know who it was. His wood husky scent hit my nose and like always Goliath was running a circle in my head. "Jenson?" Alex called out. I turned around and smiled at him, we were both afraid of what was going to happen but I am glad we found out.
The thoughts that surrounded him almost made me laugh, he was worried and was wondering what was going on and if he needed to hunt anyone down. "Everything is fine, we are just waiting for the others." I said quickly. He looked at me confused before Pythia and the others barged in the door. I knew they would be curious about what was going on. I looked at Jasper and his thoughts were screaming. He was crazy about Beth, she invaded his thoughts every time she was close to him. "So what's going on?" Pythia asked, looking between us. She wanted to know what Lucinda told us, she was stressed about the fight being only a day or so out now. She didn't have much faith in herself and that kind of irritated me. She is stronger than she realizes. "So we can only tell those of you in this room but Lucinda had a gift she didn't tell anyone about that she also shared with us." Jasper said. "Her gift is seeing people's thoughts in a sense. Like she can't actually read someone's mind but it's like she can look at you and just know." I added.
"So you can tell what we are thinking?" Tye asked. I looked at him and knew that he was skeptical. "Nothing to be skeptical about Tye." I said tilting my head to the side. "And you need to stop thinking those dirty thoughts." Jasper said, looking at Alex. We all turned and looked at him to see his face was bright red. "Alright point taken. Why did she share it with you two?" Pythia asked. "Because she said it will help us tell what the opposing side is thinking, if they set a trap or try anything we don't expect." I said. "It will also help us read Bartholomew to try to make sure he never gets the upper hand on you." Jasper added. "So Delilah knows a person's next fighting move before it is made and now the two of you can basically tell what people are thinking before they do it. This will help." Pythia said as her body relaxed. "You have got to stop being so hard on yourself." I said, narrowing my eyes at her. "He is right, we can literally see it. You are stronger than you think so stop it." Jasper added.
I could tell she was battling herself but right now we just didn’t have the time for it anymore. “No one else can know so let’s go mingle with people before shit hits the fan.” I said taking a deep breath trying to prepare myself for what we were about to go through.
