Chapter 130 I'll Save My Energy For You
What kind of person is Damian Hearst?
He doesn't care about anyone, whether business partners or KM Road executives. When has he ever said so much?
The lawyer sitting next to him felt very surprised. What... What's wrong with the CEO today?
They couldn't figure out what the CEO was thinking.
Ashley politely smiled, and said, "It's personal, inconvenient to discuss."
Damian Hearst said, "In that case, Ashley probably has to come to the dinner tonight. Important information will be shared then, and Ashley wouldn't want to miss that."
Mr. Moretti was clever enough to understand the hint with just a slight mention of it, so he regretfully and uncomfortably said, "Ashley, you might have to cancel your plans tonight. We have many details to discuss at the dinner table."
At this point, how could Ashley refuse? She works in the company without anyone to protect her.
"Oh... I'll try my best then," Ashley responded.
At five o'clock, Mr. Moretti strictly followed Damian Hearst's instructions and ended the meeting. "Everyone, get ready. Let's meet at the restaurant at seven o'clock. Oh, by the way, Ashley, this is the material we prepared today. Please take it to the CEO's office," he said.
Ashley felt a difference. You are all KM Road's people, so why do I have to deliver it?
After the other lawyers left one by one, Ashley no longer concealed her thoughts. "Mr. Moretti, this collaboration is pure and simple. Do what needs to be done, and I hope you can handle it fairly," she remarked.
Mr. Moretti remained composed and replied, "I have always been strict when it comes to work. I will not tolerate any mistakes, and Ashley has done nothing wrong. I will certainly treat her fairly. There is no other meaning."
Talking to lawyers can be tiring sometimes. No one tells the truth.
Ashley said straightforwardly, "You are well aware of my relationship with Damian Hearst, but that is all in the past. We are now just business partners. You don't have to look at me differently because of him."
"Of course," Mr. Moretti replied, "The CEO has something to do tonight. Ashley, would you like to deliver it as soon as possible?"
Ashley felt passive and frustrated. "Fine," she agreed, reluctantly.
As they reached the top floor, Ashley's pace slowed as they approached Damian Hearst's office. Reluctantly, she leaned against the door and didn't want to go in.
"Hello…" Ashley greeted.
Ashley intended to have the secretary deliver the documents, but before she could finish speaking, the secretary smiled and said, "Ashley, you came at the perfect time. Could you please deliver these documents to the CEO? There is a guest in the meeting room who is getting impatient, and I have to go there immediately."
What's the matter?
Ashley knocked on the door and received Damian Hearst's permission to enter.
"This is..." Ashley began to speak.
Damian Hearst's phone rang, and he gestured for her to come over before answering it.
"Schedule it for tomorrow. Cancel the meeting. Is he waiting for me, or am I waiting for him? Let him think it over before contacting me." It seemed unhappy on the other end, and Damian Hearst's tone was dominant.
Ashley placed the two documents on either side and waited with her head lowered.
Damian Hearst answered three phone calls in a row, and several minutes passed before he had some free time.
"What is this?" he asked.
"This is a document, and the other is a file the secretary asked me to bring in," Ashley replied.
Damian Hearst wasn't sure if he heard correctly. "Did the secretary ask you to bring it in?" he asked, with a hint of disbelief in his tone.
"She had something urgent to attend to in the meeting room, and I happened to be delivering something to you, so..." Ashley explained.
Damian Hearst leaned back in his chair and was annoyed. He picked up the file, waved it around, and then slammed it on the table.
"Don't be too eager to help. If someone asks for your help, do you help? Do you know what this is? This document has issues. She didn't dare to come in herself, so she sent you to deliver it," he said angrily.
Ashley felt suffocated and said, "Damian Hearst, there's no need for you to be so angry, right? If there's a problem, you can go back and address it. Why take it out on me? The secretary is scared of you and didn't dare to confront you. It's because you are usually so terrifying, so who's to blame?"
Damian Hearst propped his elbow on the table and looked at her unhappy expression. He said, "Do you think you're so clever? Don't meddle in other people's affairs. If it's not your responsibility, don't take it on. This is the workplace, not a playground."
Ashley felt frustrated. "All right, thank you for enlightening me, Damian Hearst. And I must say, I admire your foul temper!" she retorted, sarcastically.
Did she make a mistake even when helping others deliver documents?
Damian Hearst suppressed his anger. He didn't know why, but whenever he saw her being manipulated by others, he wanted to wake her up. It was because he had walked down a wrongful path before and didn't want to see her go through the same negative experience as he did.
"Tonight..." Ashley began to speak.
Suddenly, Ashley's phone rang. She took out her phone and apologized. The caller was Hendrix Stone. Ashley felt conflicted. Should she answer or not?
Ignoring a call from her boss after work seemed unacceptable. But if she answered, what if Hendrix Stone said something strange? It would only make her more annoyed.
Caught in hesitation, Damian Hearst sneered. "Another lover? Not convenient to talk in front of me?"
Ashley glanced at her phone and decided not to answer. "My personal affairs are not within Damian Hearst's jurisdiction. Don't worry about it!" she remarked.
Damian Hearst began to get angry. He remembered the image of them embracing in the restaurant and the entangled figures in the Man Hearston yard.
"You..." But his words were interrupted by the ringing phone on the table. The caller ID showed Trinity Bezos.
Ashley took a peek and recognized those three words. She coldly retorted, "Damian Hearst, your fiancée is calling. You should take the call."
Damian Hearst didn't take her sarcasm seriously. He swiped to answer the call and said, "What's up?"
Unable to hear the other side, Damian Hearst responded, "Okay, I'll be there on time... Where are you? All right, I'll come pick you up... Don't worry, it's not a hassle."
Ashley listened coldly, observing the tenderness in his eyes and the charm on his face. Even in a business alliance, he carried himself with elegance.
"It seems Damian Hearst has a date. I won't disturb you any longer, Damian Hearst. Go to your appointment early, and don't keep others waiting." Ashley teased.
Ashley deliberately moved her chair heavily and stood up rudely.
Damian Hearst put away the documents and walked around the large table. "Are you jealous?" he asked, intrigued.
Ashley sneered, "Damian Hearst is overthinking. I'm just thinking, how can a man be both attached to his ex-wife and pretend with his fiancée while also having passionate moments with the woman he likes?
"These are just the ones I know; who knows how many secret lovers Damian Hearst has in private? Youth may be good, but I advise Damian Hearst not to relax too much in case of overextending yourself."
Damian Hearst pinched her chin and lifted it, saying, "Do you want to know if I have enough energy? Come to my house tonight. I still have something from last night that I can save for you."
Ashley leaned back, trying to avoid smelling his breath, and said, "Damian Hearst, the words have been made clear. Please pay attention to your own reputation!"
"reputation? What reputation do I have?" Damian Hearst tightly held her waist, effortlessly pulling her back into his embrace. He lowered his head, hummed softly, and looked at her red lips, saying, "Do you like egg tarts?"
Ashley used her internal strength to push open his arms, coldly saying, "They're not good."
Suddenly, Damian Hearst blocked her lips, his tongue quickly entering and stirring before reluctantly withdrawing, saying, "I thought they were pretty good."
"Damian Hearst. Behave yourself!" Ashley couldn't take it anymore and spat, preparing to scold him in anger.
Knock! Knock! The sound of a knock on the door startled them.
Ashley grabbed his wrist with both hands and forcefully pulled away, saying, "Get lost!"
Damian Hearst slowly moved his gaze away from her face and said with lingering disappointment, "Come in."
"CEO, a man named Hendrix Stone, said he was here to pick up Ashley. We didn't let him in, but he..." the secretary said.
