Chapter 554 Tell a Joke, and I'll Let You Go
Ashley said, "His heart is no longer with you. Even if you can keep him physically, you can't keep his true feelings. Once he wins the case, you'll lose both him and his love! So, if you must hold onto something, let the court help you. Once he's in prison, his lover will surely leave him. At that point, he'll have nothing and no one but you. Your genuine love will surely move him, and after he gets out, you can spend the rest of your lives together."
Although Ashley didn't really advocate for this approach in her heart.
Luna was speechless for a few seconds, her blue eyes flickering with nervousness and insecurity, "You don't want me to testify in court?"
Ashley felt a bit sorry for this woman.
It wasn't hard to see from their brief interaction that she was very naive. Maybe she hadn't been exposed to the darker sides of life much, or maybe she had been brainwashed by her husband for a long time. Either way, she deserved a better life.
"This is the best way to keep your husband. At most, he'll be out in ten years, and you can reunite as a family. Besides, you can visit him often while he's in prison."
Luna twisted her hands nervously, looking helpless and at a loss.
Sean added, "But if you insist on testifying for him, even if his sentence is reduced, you won't get him. His lover won't mind waiting a year or two and then running off with the wealth. Faced with such a large sum of money, most women wouldn't mind spending a year or two of their youth."
Ashley continued, "On the contrary, if you want to protect your own rights, I can be your lawyer and help you sue his lover to recover the marital assets, all of which will be yours. Legally, marital assets transferred to a third party without the other spouse's knowledge can be fully recovered. It's a huge sum that will surprise you."
Ashley took out her lawyer's certificate from the American Bar Association. "I am a lawyer, and I can represent you in any state to sue the person who destroyed your marriage and recover your rightful interests."
Luna, who had been brainwashed by her husband's lawyers, was now being bombarded by the two lawyers in front of her. The chains around her heart finally began to loosen, and she wavered.
Her husband and his lover, herself and her child.
How should she choose?
She didn't want that lover to succeed!
She hated that woman. She was just her husband's secretary. Why should she get so much money from her husband?
She had been too stupid not to see their relationship earlier!
Sean continued to add pressure, "You and your child are always in danger here. Your husband will continue to threaten you. He might even take extreme measures and use your child as a bargaining chip."
Ashley reached out and gently held her arm, her gaze firm, "For yourself, for your child, for the reunion you desire, and to kick out that shameless third party. You need to weigh your options."
Suddenly, a baby started crying loudly.
Luna stumbled and hurried over to pick up the child.
But the baby kept crying and couldn't be soothed.
This greatly disturbed Luna's mood.
Seeing their plan about to fall apart, Sean walked over and said gently, "May I try? I have a daughter, and I used to soothe her when she cried."
Luna, with tears in her eyes and feeling lost, unconsciously handed the baby to Sean.
Sean carefully supported the baby's body, then turned the baby over, crossing the little arms in front of the chest and gently pressing, rocking back and forth.
In just a few seconds, the baby stopped crying.
Ashley was incredibly shocked! Soothing a crying baby required immense patience.
Luna was stunned, "How did you do that?"
Sean explained, "In the mother's womb, the baby is in this position. Doing this gives her the sense of security she had in the womb, and with that security, she naturally stops crying."
Luna, feeling heartbroken, pulled at her hair, "He never took care of the baby so gently. He only looks at documents and his phone, comes home late, and loses his temper with me. He doesn't love the baby. He doesn't see me or the baby!"
Sean held the now quiet baby in his arms, "Luna, a broken family and a husband who has changed can't bring you and your child happiness. The pain he's caused you shouldn't be paid for with your suffering. Let the wrong person leave and start anew, giving yourself a better path."
Ashley, waking from her emotional state, said softly with tears in her eyes, "I've been divorced too, but my child and I have a better life now. Luna, I sincerely hope you find happiness."
After a long time, Luna was finally persuaded. She nodded with tears in her eyes, "Okay, I agree with you."
As they walked out of the apartment, Ashley said self-deprecatingly, "Sean, don't you think we're kind of bad sometimes?"
Sean replied, "There are things we can do and things we can't. We're not purely good people; we just chose this profession and stand on this side. Besides, for Luna, divorce is a good thing."
A week later, the court reconvened.
Luna no longer testified, and Ashley presented the case of the defendant's infidelity in court.
These two cases were unrelated, but the defendant's reputation with the jury was completely ruined.
The court ruled that all charges were upheld, with no bail, and after serving a ten-year sentence, he would be deported.
It was a sweeping victory.
For Justice Peak Law Firm and Sean, this victory was decisive, further solidifying his position in the industry.
"Congratulations, Sean, on another victory!" Ashley congratulated him generously.
Sean replied seriously, "Thanks to your help, you're the biggest contributor. How should I thank you?"
Ashley thought for a moment and smiled, "How about giving me a billion dollars?"
Sean laughed heartily, "I'll have my assistant check the case fees. If it's not enough, I'll cover the rest from my personal account."
"Are you serious?"
Ashley laughed heartily, finding Sean's serious joking manner adorable.
Lynn, seeing them chatting happily, felt a pang of jealousy. Sean's smile was so tender and gentle, something she had never experienced!
Lynn clenched her teeth in anger, her phone almost deformed from her grip. She stepped forward, "Mr. Ross, there are reporters outside the court. Do you want to give an interview?"
Sean, always low-key, never made a fuss about any victory. With the rampant media, anything said in public could be over-interpreted, and he didn't want to be in the spotlight, "No interviews. You go out the front and drive the car around. Ms. Astor and I will leave through the back."
Lynn glanced coldly at Ashley, then smiled brightly, "Okay, I'll wait for you."
"Don't wait for me. I have something to discuss with Ms. Astor." Sean said bluntly.
Lynn pouted, "But the firm has prepared a celebration for you tonight. If you don't go, everyone will be disappointed."
"We'll see tonight. Wait for my call."
"Okay, I understand."
Taking the car keys, Lynn walked away in her high heels, the sound crisp and clear.
Ashley waited until she was out of sight before saying, "Your assistant doesn't seem happy."
Sean replied, "I'm not a psychologist. I can't read women's minds."
Ashley didn't ask further. They left through the back door and found a café.
After sitting down and ordering coffee, Ashley took out some documents, "These are the lawsuit materials. What are your thoughts?"
Sean put the documents back in the envelope, "Can we eat first? I've been talking for hours, and my mouth is dry. Please, Ms. Astor, give me a break."
Ashley laughed again, "Want to eat? Sure, but you have to tell me a joke first. Maybe if I'm happy, I'll let you off."
Telling a joke was a tough request for Sean. He thought hard, "This..."
Ashley played with her coffee cup, then noticed someone familiar walking in.
That person saw her too.
