Chapter 359 Don't Look at Me, Look at the Road

Hannah glared outside, rolling her eyes at some people in the distance, "Since yesterday, there's been a rumor among the lawyers that you've hooked up with a rich guy. They even said they saw you getting into a luxury car!"

Ashley paused what she was doing, thinking that maybe someone saw Damian picking her up, "Do you know who started it?"

Hannah snorted and glared, "Not sure, but it's not hard to guess! Who else but Lynn and Riley would spread such rumors!"

Ashley had said goodbye to them at the law firm entrance before everyone went their separate ways.

Could Lynn have followed her?

Ashley said, "Don't jump to conclusions without evidence. It's easy to find out where the rumor started."

Hannah had been fuming for two days but didn't want to affect Ashley's mood, so she held back. Ashley was magnanimous, but she wasn't; she was petty, "What method? Tell me, I'll deal with them!"

Ashley patted her head, "Just do as I say."

Hannah nodded repeatedly after hearing the plan, "Okay! Okay! I got it."

Ashley could be quite cunning, but she usually didn't bother to use it.

Ashley took a cab to the car dealership and received a call from an unknown number on the way.

Having been a lawyer for a long time, Ashley was more cautious than most. She asked, "Hello, who is this?"

"You left a note on my car."

Ashley’s eyes lit up, "Are you the owner of the Range Rover?"

It had taken so long for this person to contact her that she thought they were planning to flee. Hearing it was a woman, it wasn't surprising that she had accidentally bumped into someone else's car.

Linda said, "Yes, that's me, but I'm very busy and don't have time to meet you. I'll have someone from the insurance company handle it. Whatever the compensation is, we'll go with that."

Ashley said, "The car has already been sent for repairs and repainted."

"Do you have the invoice? I'll transfer the money to you, no need to go through insurance."

Ashley understood that going through insurance would mean higher premiums next year.

"Alright."

"How should I pay?"

"Bank transfer."

Linda instructed her assistant to make the transfer. Shortly after, the assistant came over with the receipt, "Ms. Long, the transfer is done."

"Good."

It was a small amount, so Linda didn't pay much attention. After work, she glanced at the receipt under the documents and was about to throw it in the trash when her eyes fixed on it.

Payee: Ashley.

What a coincidence?

The person she had bumped into was Hendrix's subordinate, the girl he liked?

Linda thought for a moment and called Hendrix, "Is it today? Are you meeting with your assistant lawyer?"

Hendrix was already at the venue and almost cursed when he heard Linda's words, "Aunt, can you be reliable? Don't forget, finish up and come over quickly."

Linda chuckled, "What's the rush? We missed it last time. Can we miss it again today? Tell me the truth. Do you really like this girl?"

Hendrix scratched his head, "Didn't you hear my parents talking about it at my house that day? It's not about whether I like her or not; my parents are about to disown me because of this."

"Marriage is a big deal, and while you should respect your parents' opinions, it's ultimately about the two of you living together. You can't just go by their wishes. How about this, I can help you check her out. If this Ashley is really worth pursuing, I'll help you."

Hendrix thought he had misheard. Was this the aunt he knew?

His aunt, who was always decisive and cutthroat in matters of the heart, was now interested in someone else's marriage?

"Ms. Long, are you okay? Have you checked your temperature? Are you running a fever?"

Linda touched the transfer receipt and laughed, "Don't talk nonsense! I think maybe our Long family has a connection with this girl."

Ashley was in a hurry to meet Hendrix. When she arrived at the car dealership, she headed straight for the front desk, looking for the sales number she had saved last time.

She walked quickly, looking at her screen and not paying attention to what was in front of her. Suddenly, her head hurt, and she saw a tall shadow in front of her.

"Sorry." She lowered her head to apologize and tried to move aside.

But the person in front of her didn't move and said coldly, "Look up."

Hearing Damian's voice, Ashley looked up in surprise, her eyes fixed on his face, but she couldn't see his expression. She could only see her reflection in his sunglasses.

The square sunglasses covered Damian's eyes, perched on his high nose, matching his black suit, making him look even more distant and cold.

Ashley didn't dare to call out loudly, so she lowered her voice, "Mr. Hearst?"

What was he doing here?

Damian said, "Your car is outside."

Ashley looked in the direction he indicated through the floor-to-ceiling window and saw the car she had chosen parked under a tree. Thomas and the salesperson were discussing something.

Just buying a car, did it really require Damian to come personally?

Ashley asked, "Mr. Hearst, are you buying a car too?"

Damian said, "No."

So he came specifically to help her check out the car?

Damian started walking outside. When he noticed Ashley still standing far away, he turned back and asked, "Is there a problem?"

Yes, there was a problem.

Ashley caught up and said, "Your identity is special. It's not good if someone recognizes you. Let Thomas handle it for me."

Damian continued walking, "He's my driver. Do you want him to finish your business and then come back to pick me up?"

Ashley tugged at the corner of her mouth.

As if he couldn't get home without Thomas. Everyone knew he had another professional driver.

Thomas finished discussing the details and nodded, "Mr. Hearst, everything is settled."

Damian nodded, "Get in."

They were going for a test drive.

Ashley got into the driver's seat and hadn't even fastened her seatbelt when someone got into the passenger seat. "This is a new car. I'm not familiar with how it drives. It's not very safe."

Damian fastened his seatbelt, his face stern, "I'm familiar with it."

The car started and drove 1000 feet. Ashley felt something was off and glanced to the right, "This car's performance is much better than I expected."

So good that she almost thought she was driving a top-of-the-line Maserati.

This wasn't the feeling a car in this price range should have.

Damian showed only his profile, his nose looking even more prominent under the sunglasses' frame, "Don't look at me, watch the road."

Ashley was sure the car's configuration was better than the million-dollar cars she had driven before. The engine's sound was impressive, and the acceleration was surprisingly fast. She wondered, "Has this car been modified?"

Damian crossed his arms and looked ahead, "You'd have to ask the manufacturer if they accidentally used parts from another car during assembly."

How was she supposed to respond to that?

Ashley test-drove for five miles and was ready to head back. She touched the interior, which looked the same as the one she had seen before, but this car felt completely different, "Mr. Hearst, did you have someone modify this car?"

Damian asked back, "Is it different from the one you saw last time?"

Last time?

Last time she only looked at the exterior and didn't drive it, so she couldn't compare, "I only looked at the exterior a few days ago, didn't drive it."

"If you haven't driven it, how can you conclude? If you have doubts and don't want to buy it, you can talk to the salesperson and see if you can return it. But the license plate, insurance, and vehicle registration are all done, so it might be hard to return."

Wasn't that blocking her way out?

Besides, Ashley found the car very easy to drive, and the experience exceeded her expectations. She didn't want to return it. Maybe she was overthinking it, and the car's performance was just that good. After all, this brand was known for its high cost-performance and safety, "It's fine, I like it."

Damian's lips curled slightly, but he said nothing.

Just then, Ashley's phone rang.

She was driving and couldn't answer, planning to call back after getting out of the car.

Damian took her bag and opened the clasp with his long fingers, "Focus on driving."

Ashley wasn't sure who was calling and didn't want him to see anything he shouldn't, so she hurriedly said, "No need, I can..."

Before she could finish, Damian had already taken out the phone, and the screen showed the caller ID "Mr. Long."

Without asking her, Damian swiped to answer.

"Ashley, where are you? We're all waiting for you."
