Chapter 389 Seeing a Woman Enter His Room
Ashley was left speechless by her own actions, "You've got some nerve, standing tall and confronting people, only to leave a trail of evidence behind. Then, when they come knocking, you get slapped in the face. Is this what you call revenge?"
Amelia chuckled, "Let him chase me if he wants. I'm not afraid."
She used to be cautious and low-key, but it never brought her much happiness.
"Alright, you're tough again. Keep it up, don't be like before."
Despite her words, Ashley remained cautious.
What kind of temper does Christian have?
As Damian's ex-wife, she had clashed with him multiple times. He would be even harsher with Amelia.
Ashley didn't waste any time and headed straight to the surveillance room.
When she arrived, a few technicians were discussing, "A guest on the top floor said they lost something valuable and asked us to check the surveillance."
"This is trouble. If we catch the thief, we might lose our jobs."
"I was so tired last night, I dozed off for two minutes, but I didn't miss anything, right? No strangers came in. Could it be that a server stole from the guest?"
Another one said, "Who knows."
Sure enough, Christian used this trick.
Luckily, she arrived a step earlier. If the surveillance footage fell into Christian's hands, it would be chaos.
Ashley put on a stern face and said coldly, "Have you found the footage? It's urgent."
The two technicians shivered at her voice, "Who are you?"
Ashley impatiently replied, "The person who asked for the footage sent me to get it. Why are you taking so long?"
Hearing this, the technicians became even more nervous, "Don't worry, don't worry, we're looking for it. The guest didn't specify the time, so we're checking."
Ashley rolled up her sleeves and said coldly, "With your skills, you still manage the surveillance? The hotel could be robbed, and you wouldn't know. Step aside, I'll do it."
Without waiting for a response, she took one of their seats.
The two technicians were bewildered. Can it be done this way?
In their careers, they had never encountered an incident requiring surveillance footage. Being timid and not wanting to take responsibility, they didn't say much.
Ashley quickly rewound the footage to midnight last night. Soon, she saw a woman in a bathrobe walking out of the elevator. The footage only showed her head, not her face, and her body was covered, making it hard to identify her. As soon as she stepped out of the elevator, the video cut off.
Ashley tried rewinding and pausing again, but it was still fruitless.
The two technicians were stunned, looking at each other in panic, "What's going on?"
Ashley was secretly pleased. Amelia was really lucky to catch a break with the malfunctioning surveillance. But she feigned anger and said harshly, "Yeah, what's going on? The hotel must give us an explanation. Now what? The footage is lost, and there's not enough evidence. And you two, neglecting your duties, not even knowing the surveillance is broken. I'm going to complain to the hotel manager right now."
Seeing Ashley ready to make a call, one technician panicked, "Wait, wait... Miss, don't be angry. We were on duty all night, just went to the restroom for a moment..."
The security personnel were young boys, likely dropped out of school early and couldn't find better jobs, so they ended up in a low-skill job at the hotel.
If they got fired, their future would be in jeopardy.
Ashley crossed her arms and said coldly, "Scared now?"
The boy, having made a mistake, lowered his head and apologized sincerely, "I'm sorry."
Ashley said, "I don't want to make things difficult for you, but I'm doing this for someone else. There has to be an explanation, right?"
The boy's head was almost buried in his neck, "Yes, you're right. What do you want us to do?"
"You made a mistake. If the management finds out, you'll be held responsible. Also, my boss lost a watch worth over a million dollars. If we can't find the thief, who will compensate? You?"
"A watch worth over a million dollars?" The boy had never seen something so expensive. His legs went weak, "Miss, we can't afford that."
Ashley sympathetically said, "My boss doesn't care about the money or the watch, but you might lose everything."
The two boys were sweating profusely, having never encountered such a big issue. They were completely lost, "I... I..."
After stammering for a while, they couldn't come up with a solution and just lowered their heads further.
Ashley pondered, "How about this, I'll talk to my boss and see if he can let it go. As for the surveillance, delete everything from last night and say the system malfunctioned. Otherwise, my boss will trace it back to you."
The boy's mind went blank, unable to think of anything, and just nodded mechanically, "We'll do as you say. Please convince your boss not to pursue this... I'll delete the footage."
Ashley watched them delete the footage and then sighed, "Alright, you've been up all night. Go home and sleep."
The two were dumbfounded, "What?"
"Not going home? Waiting to get scolded? My boss will be down soon."
"Okay! Okay!"
With the footage mysteriously lost, Christian would definitely demand an explanation from the hotel. Before that, Ashley needed to calm him down.
Once the storm passed and Christian's attention was diverted, it would blow over in a few days.
After all, with such an embarrassing incident, Christian, if he had any sense, wouldn't keep pursuing it.
Upstairs, Christian had dressed and waited for the footage, but it never came. Frustrated, he dialed the phone again.
At that moment, the doorbell rang.
He opened the door with a grim face, only to see Ashley.
"Surprising, Ms. Astor coming to see me."
Ashley looked upset, "The hotel's surveillance has issues."
Christian's breath quickened, but he showed no emotion, "Really?"
Why was she also looking for the footage?
Ashley explained, "I couldn't sleep last night and went upstairs for some fresh air. I ran into Mr. Hearst. You know our relationship is complicated, so I didn't want to embarrass myself and went back down. But then I realized my bracelet was missing. I went to check the surveillance, and they said it was broken. They couldn't find any footage from last night. I wanted to ask if you saw anything unusual."
Christian's eyes clearly showed doubt, "Really? Trying to fool me?"
"Why don't you ask Mr. Hearst instead of me?"
Ashley shrugged, "Fine, I'll ask him."
"Wait," Christian stopped her, scrutinizing her to see if she was lying, "You said last night? Around what time?"
Ashley thought for a moment, "Around midnight, I think. I had a bit to drink, so my memory is fuzzy. Mr. Hearst should know; he was just leaving and might have seen something."
Christian's instinct was to refuse. Damn it, if Damian saw a woman entering his room, it would be...
Christian pretended, "Then you're out of luck. I didn't see anyone suspicious."
At this point, he was even a bit relieved. Thank goodness Ashley didn't see the footage, or how would he explain a woman entering his room?
What a joke, did he need to explain to Ashley?
Ashley, however, was unwilling to give up, "My bracelet is very expensive, worth tens of thousands of dollars. No, I need to get the surveillance equipment fixed!"
Christian sneered, "Is it worth it? Making such a fuss over a bracelet worth tens of thousands? Haven't you seen the world? Don't embarrass yourself in front of Mr. Hearst. I'll get you a more expensive one tomorrow."
Ashley pursed her lips, feeling heartbroken, "Forget it, it's not your problem. Just my bad luck."
Christian sniffed, "So, you didn't see anyone last night?"
Ashley, still heartbroken as if she had lost everything, couldn't shake off the sadness. She turned and asked, "What? Are you asking about a man or a woman?"
