Chapter 345 Biting the Nose
"Damn it!" Hayden took a swift step forward and tightly covered her mouth. "Are you crazy?"
Hannah couldn't make a sound, only muffled protests. She struggled and hit with all her limbs, kicking and pinching.
Hayden felt incredibly unlucky, dragging her small arm to the corner. "If you can't handle losing, don't play! Slandering in public, you're a lawyer. Don't you know you have to bear legal responsibility?"
Hannah's eyes widened in silent accusation. 'You deserve it. Calling you names is the least I could do, and you totally deserve it.'
Hayden was exasperated. He had seen all kinds of women in his life, but never one like this. "Are you out of your mind? Do you want me to lose my job as a doctor?"
'Serves you right! I hope you lose it!' Hannah felt a sense of schadenfreude, her face righteous and indignant.
Hayden couldn't bear to look around; the murmurs of the people were drowning him.
Evergreen Valley Hospital & Wellness Center, Orthopedics, Mr. Moretti—wasn't this like announcing it to the whole world?
Trying to make him famous?
Hayden cursed under his breath. "You crazy girl, if it weren't for Ashley, do you believe I wouldn't slap you to death?"
Hannah rolled her eyes, thinking, 'if it weren't for Ashley, I'd break your nose with a tennis racket.'
"You're still glaring at me!" Hayden said.
Hannah thought, 'I even dared to hit Trinity. Who do you think you are?'
She continued to hum in defiance, which left Hayden exasperated. He let go of her mouth and grabbed her by the neck instead. "What's your name?"
Hannah's mouth was free again. She rubbed it to make sure it wasn't crooked and said arrogantly, "None of your business."
Few women dared to talk to Hayden like that, almost none. "Do you know who I am? Huh?"
"Mr. Moretti from Evergreen Valley Hospital & Wellness Center, Orthopedics. Didn't I say that already? If you didn't hear, I can shout it again," Hannah said.
Fuck!
What kind of assistant did Ashley hire? A troublemaker?
Hayden's forehead throbbed with anger. "Since you know who I am, aren't you afraid I'll dislocate your arm? An orthopedic doctor can identify bones with just a touch."
Hannah's arm was yanked hard, causing her to grimace in pain, almost crying. "What are you doing? Let go of me! Let go!"
That was more like it. Women had learn to show weakness and submit.
"Scared? Beg for mercy, and maybe I'll let you go," Hayden said.
Hannah's eyes welled up with tears from the pain, almost crying. "You... you better not mess around. If you dislocate my arm, Ashley will definitely come after you. It hurts, it hurts!"
Hayden leaned in, a sinister smile on his face. "Beg me..."
Before he could finish, his nose suddenly hurt.
Hannah took advantage of his lowered head and bit his nose hard, sinking her teeth in.
"Shit!" Hayden, in pain, had to let her go, finally freeing his nose. He rubbed it repeatedly, but the pain didn't subside.
What kind of bizarre woman was this?
Biting noses?
Hannah moved her arm around and stuck out her tongue. "You pervert!"
After cursing, she quickly ran and hid behind Ashley, not coming out again.
Hayden, having been cursed and bitten, kicked the tennis ball on the ground in frustration, full of resentment. "Damn it, you better not fall into my hands."
Hannah, cowering and holding Ashley's arm, looked as innocent as a little rabbit. "Ashley, Ashley, he threatened me. Is he going to hit me?"
Ashley had seen all of Hannah's antics. They were ridiculous but not very harmful. Besides, Hayden had embarrassed the girl on the court, so it was even. "No, he's just playing with you. Just avoid conflict with him next time."
Hannah wrinkled her nose. "What kind of man is he? He's so far from my idol."
Compared him to Sean? He'd remember this grudge.
Hayden, done rubbing his nose, snorted. "Do you think I'm easy to bully?"
Sean watched the two bickering like children and laughed. "Mr. Moretti, take a break. I'll take her for another round."
Hannah, hearing that Sean was going to coach her again, forgot all her displeasure. "Great!"
She turned back and stuck her tongue out at Hayden, almost giving him a thumbs down.
Hayden felt a white-hot rage burning in his veins, exploding in his skull. He couldn't take it anymore and scratched his head. "Ashley, is this really the assistant you hired?"
Ashley watched Sean and Hannah start playing again, then turned back with a smile. "Isn't she great? Lively, cute, enthusiastic, cheerful, and pretty."
Hayden seriously doubted Ashley's taste in women. "Ashley, you're really defending her."
Ashley said, "You left your friends and came here just to embarrass Sean, didn't you?"
Caught, Hayden wasn't embarrassed. Instead, he was righteous. "Sean clearly has bad intentions towards you. When a man is attentive to a woman, it's always for that reason."
Ashley said, "You have a bias against Sean."
"He's just a..." Hayden thought for a moment but couldn't come up with a derogatory term. Although he didn't know Sean well, the public opinion seemed good. "His wife is dead."
Ashley frowned. "His wife died defending the law. I don't think such a sacrifice should be used as a reason to mock him."
If it were anything else, Ashley could take it as a joke, but the dead should be respected, not mocked.
But to Hayden, this sounded like she was defending Sean.
Hayden irritably returned to his friends, uninterested in playing and called Damian. "Mr. Hearst, don't you think you should keep an eye on your woman?"
"What happened?" Damian said.
Hayden chuckled. "Your woman is flirting with another man at the tennis court. If I hadn't intervened, they might have had a candlelight dinner and more tonight. Are you sure you have a hundred percent chance of winning her over?"
Damian's voice turned cold. "Get to the point."
Got anxious?
"Sean," Hayden said.
"Got it," Damian said.
Then, the call ended.
Hayden smirked, his mood lifting. He swung his racket. "Guys, let's play!"
Meanwhile.
Damian arranged for the private jet to arrive at Evercrest City airport in a few hours. He confirmed all the checkpoints for returning home again. After finishing, his father called him, asking him to come home.
Since his father decided to reopen the investigation into Faye's death, the frequency of his calls had more than doubled.
Today, asking him to come home for a face-to-face talk meant they had found new clues.
Bryan held a few photos, the top one showing Faye at a classmate's birthday party a week before her accident. Three years had passed, but her image still brought him immense sorrow. The grief of losing his daughter hadn't faded with time; it had only grown stronger as he aged.
"These people were all good friends of your sister," he said, his voice suddenly much older.
The Hearst family had nothing related to Faye left, but it didn't stop the father's longing or Damian's pain for his sister.
Father and son sat in the study, both looking grim.
Damian glanced at Faye's smiling face, feeling a dull ache in his chest. "What did you find out?"
