Chapter 535 Can't Wait to Kiss You Passionately
Ashley bit her lip and remained silent. Anything she said would be redundant.
"Fine, I promise you. You all think Esme is great, right? Fine, it's just a lifetime, I accept it!"
"Hendrix," Ashley's fingers gripped the wine glass tightly, "It's not necessarily Esme, you can meet other people."
"No need," Hendrix took a big gulp of the red wine Ashley had given him, "Besides you, everyone else is just settling. Since that's the case, it doesn't matter who I settle with."
Ashley's heart suddenly ached. She never thought Hendrix liked her that much, didn't think he was so insistent on her, but his words today, every single one, made her heart ache deeply.
"I'm sorry."
There were so many things to say, but all she could manage were those three words.
Hendrix lit a second cigarette and smoked it skillfully, "It's not your fault for not liking me, no need to apologize."
"I'm sorry."
Even so, she still felt very sorry, as if her existence was a grave sin.
Hendrix couldn't stand it and cursed, "Can you stop this, Ashley? I feel like kissing you hard right now!"
Ashley closed her mouth.
Hendrix couldn't stand it and flicked the ash forcefully, rubbing his temples in frustration and pain, "Don't show this expression or those eyes in front of men in the future."
Afraid Ashley didn't understand, he explained, "Innocent, cute, confused, and those watery eyes that are seductive!"
The former was the expression, the latter was the eyes.
Ashley covered her face with her hands, leaving only her wet eyes visible. "I'll go buy a mask and sunglasses."
Hendrix was speechless for a moment, damn it, who did he owe?
After finishing the red wine, Hendrix cleared his throat and calmed down. "Where's your son?"
The topic switched quickly, and Ashley, a bit dazed from the drink, her vision blurry, said, "In Evercrest City, my parents are taking care of him. I came back mainly to accompany Dorian's daughter for treatment. She has a strange disease, relying on blood transfusions to survive since childhood. She's only five now, and the doctors say the old treatment method is no longer effective, she might not live past ten. Do you know Martin?"
The amount of information was overwhelming, and Hendrix felt a headache. "Ashley, your life is too dramatic, you encounter everything."
Ashley mocked herself, "Chosen one."
Hendrix sneered, "That's the price of not loving me. Mr. Collins, right? I've heard of him. After all, my family also has a hospital, so of course, I know the industry bigwigs. But he has a strange temper. The Long Group offered him a high price before, and he didn't even open the door."
Ashley nodded, "He's treating my niece."
Hendrix was obviously stunned, his eyes filled with big doubts, "What?"
Ashley said, "It's because of Damian, so I have to take my niece to his house every day because Mr. Collins is his private doctor."
Hendrix cursed silently, the Long Group offered Martin an annual salary of tens of millions of dollars, and he didn't even look at it, but he humbled himself to be Damian's private doctor? Is Damian that powerful?
"So, you two are still entangled?"
"Yes. Once Natalia recovers, or Martin stops being his private doctor, we will have no more ties."
Hendrix pouted, "You said similar things before, but you got deeper and deeper."
Ashley shrugged, not wanting to talk about the past.
Hendrix understood, "I get it, you're making it clear that you only see me as a friend. Fine, when you're in a bad mood, continue to invite me for drinks. If we can't be lovers, I'm still a qualified friend."
Ashley forced a smile, "Thank you, Hendrix, knowing you is my luck."
After that, the two drank heavily.
One with a heart full of sorrow, drinking one glass after another without restraint.
One tasting the bitterness of reality, drinking one sip after another with the inescapable vicissitudes of life.
Ashley wanted to say, Hendrix, you are very suitable as a friend, a confidant, a lifelong friend.
But such words would undoubtedly add insult to injury, and she couldn't bear it.
She didn't know how long it had been, but both were drunk.
Their vision blurred, thoughts scattered, and they lost consciousness at some point.
That night, Ashley didn't go back to pick up Natalia.
Around one in the morning, Damian received a call from the manager of Blue Star.
"Mr. Hearst, Ms. Astor and Mr. Long are still in the private room, should we open the door?"
Damian held the phone without any movement, his chiseled features gathering the first snow of winter.
It had been almost ten hours since the manager's first call informing him that Ashley and Hendrix were in the Blue Star private room.
The private room door hadn't been opened in the meantime.
A man and a woman, reunited after a long time, in a closed space, with alcohol.
As a mature man experienced in matters between men and women, Damian couldn't beautify this behavior with the pure thoughts seen in TV dramas.
After a long time, he heard his own voice say, "No need, they are friends."
He didn't want Ashley to feel awkward and wanted to maintain her dignity.
He feared that opening the door would reveal the scene he least wanted to see. Rather than that, he preferred to think of it as Schrödinger's cat; as long as the box wasn't opened, he could believe in the result he wanted.
Putting down the phone, Damian turned his wheelchair back to the bedroom.
Natalia was staying over tonight, sleeping in his room. The little girl was sleeping neatly in the bed, not kicking the covers or rolling around, her sleeping posture completely unlike Ashley's.
Looking at the soft "daughter," the fire in Damian's heart slightly subsided.
Ashley, you're already a mother, when did your heart become so wild and unruly? Isn't one Sean enough? How do you want to be happy?
The phone rang again, and Damian answered, "Thomas."
"Mr. Hearst, are you still awake?"
"Not yet."
"There's a problem."
After the scandal of Volcano broke out, the media cooperated in hyping it up, causing an uproar and constant criticism. By the end of the day, the stock price had plummeted.
With the lawsuit lost, the branch company sealed, and scandals entangling it, Volcano was besieged on all sides, and the stock market hit rock bottom. In contrast, KM was thriving, with its market value rising by billions.
But this situation wouldn't last long.
Damian's intention was to force out the founder of Volcano. With such a big incident, he wouldn't continue to hide.
"Speak."
"It's Ms. Peterson. They are using her life as a threat, asking us to hand over our people."
Damian's eyes narrowed. "Tell them, they can have the person, but they must exchange her for Selene."
Thomas didn't dare delay and immediately contacted the other party's representative.
Soon, the other party responded, "How can a mere small figure be an equivalent exchange for Ms. Peterson? If you want to take Selene, you must add more chips."
Damian sneered, "A mere woman defiled by you, and you think she's worth more chips?"
Receiving Damian's exact words, Chad laughed several times, sitting by the floor-to-ceiling window, admiring the prosperous and luxurious scenery, and said word by word, "April, do you think Damian really has no feelings for Selene?"
April shook her head, "You men are all the same, maybe?"
Chad's sinister eyes curved, "Is that so? It's easy to verify, cut off one of Selene's fingers and send it to him as an appetizer."
