Chapter 487 Damian's Regret, A Missed Encounter
On the plane, Lucius Ross was holding a military newspaper and looked up to see Sean and Ashley.
Standing side by side, they smiled at each other, looking very much like a couple in love.
He thought of what Peterson had said, "Lucius, Ashley and Sean make a great pair! I'm not just saying this, if Sean misses out on Ashley, he'll regret it for the rest of his life!"
After Sean's wife died unexpectedly, the Ross family had introduced many potential partners to Sean, but he never accepted any of them. Even if he reluctantly agreed to give it a try, Cleo didn't like the new mother and was always crying and unhappy.
But Ashley, for some unknown reason, managed to win the hearts of both Sean and Cleo.
A few days ago, Cleo was crying at home, wanting to call the beautiful Ashley.
However...
Lucius had secretly investigated Ashley's family background.
Such a background was really not a match for the Ross family.
The Ross family couldn't afford such a burden.
Was Sean going to be disappointed and heartbroken again?
He hadn't told Sean about Ashley's true identity yet, hoping that he would give up on his own. But who would have thought that Sean, who never asked for anything, would ask him this time to help Ashley go to Sylvania.
Fine, sending her to Sylvania it is. Maybe this way, Sean would give up on his own.
As he was thinking, Sean and Ashley boarded the plane.
It was Ashley's first time seeing the imposing Lucius. He wasn't in uniform, wearing a green shirt and black pants, but his military authority and kindness were conveyed with just a look.
Ashley felt what it meant to command respect without anger, what it meant to have a military presence.
As "Todd's" daughter, Ashley felt very guilty, her posture involuntarily shrinking, and she greeted him respectfully, "Hello... sir."
No matter the rank or position, calling him sir was always safe.
Lucius smiled kindly, "Look at how scared you are, I'm not a tiger. Sit down, relax, we're flying for over ten hours, you can't stay this tense."
Sean added from the side, "Don't be nervous, my dad has a good temper."
Lucius joked with a smile, "Relax, if you really can't, just pretend I'm not here."
"Thank you, sir."
Ashley sat down somewhat stiffly, opened a book, and glanced at Lucius out of the corner of her eye.
She was very afraid that Lucius would ask her something, and she would definitely give herself away with just a few words.
But strangely, during the ten-hour flight, Lucius didn't ask anything, just chatted about food, travel, and legal knowledge, and the three of them had a pleasant conversation.
Waking up from a light sleep, Ashley saw the coastline of Sylvania.
It felt like a lifetime ago that she had left her homeland and come abroad.
Sean looked out the window at the west coast and said to her, "If you don't like living abroad, I can find a way to bring you back. Don't be afraid, just think of it as a trip to relax."
The Ross family, how could they be so kind?
But she had nothing to repay them with.
When the plane landed, Lucius had someone come to pick them up. There were no extra sentimental goodbyes, just a simple wave and a wish for her to have a good life in Sylvania.
Meeting by chance, going their separate ways.
Sean had arranged a vehicle in advance and reminded her, "The plane can't fly directly to Evercrest City, you can take this car to any place you want, and also..."
He took out a black phone from his briefcase, "Don't mind this old phone, it can make calls and send texts without any tracking or location software. Of course, you can't go online or use WhatsApp."
Ashley laughed, tears coming out, "Mr. Ross, how can I thank you?"
She hadn't thought of these things herself, but he had considered everything so thoroughly.
Sean opened his arms and smiled, "Then give me a farewell hug. Who knows when we'll meet again?"
"Okay!"
Ashley opened her arms and hugged Sean, leaning on his shoulder, "With Damian's ability, he should be able to find you. When he does, tell him that if he insists on finding me, he'll only find a corpse."
Sean's shoulder stiffened. "Are you sure?"
"Yes, otherwise, he will keep searching and cause trouble for you. Just tell him that, he will understand."
"Okay, I promise you."
"Tell Cleo that I will come to see her and that she should grow up well."
"I will, we will wait for you to come home."
Waiting for you to come home.
With those words, Ashley's tears flowed.
The car drove out of the airport, heading forward, and Sean's figure became a black dot, eventually disappearing at the horizon.
Rochester City.
It had been ten days since Ashley completely lost contact.
Damian couldn't sleep at night, had no appetite, and had tried everything to find Ashley's whereabouts, but there was no progress.
The entire CEO's office was filled with tension, no one dared to speak loudly, and the secretaries were very cautious, afraid of accidentally provoking him.
And their Mr. Hearst, who had been leaving work on time for months, suddenly started working overtime like crazy, almost living in the office.
The legal department had also done something wrong, a female lawyer was fired, and the entire department was implicated.
Victor's projects had no progress either, and he was scolded every day.
Thomas took a deep breath and knocked on the door.
"Come in."
A cold word, but it sounded so icy.
Thomas looked at Damian's bloodshot eyes and thinner face, and his nose stung. This man, over six feet tall, almost wanted to cry.
Three years ago, after Ashley left following their divorce, Mr. Hearst was down for a while, but at least he seemed normal, eating, sleeping, attending meetings, and socializing.
He even went on a trip to Eirondia to relax.
This time...
He seemed to have aged a lot all of a sudden.
"Mr. Hearst, the progress report for the first phase of the Limehof Sanatorium project just came in."
Damian took it but didn't look at it, "Still no news?"
Thomas hesitated, "We've checked everything we can through normal channels. Now we've used social networks, and the last place Mrs. Hearst's phone appeared was at an intersection. We happened to pass by there at that time, but later, Mrs. Hearst's phone card appeared at a recycling station. I think Mrs. Hearst probably threw it away."
Damian's hand holding the cigarette paused, his bloodshot eyes closed tightly, and a suppressed breath came from his nose, like a trapped beast making its last struggle, "Go on."
Thomas gathered his courage and said in a low voice, "According to your instructions, we tracked Sean's movements and found that he went to Sylvania two days ago on a military plane."
Damian's eyes suddenly opened. "You said Sean went to Sylvania?"
Thomas suddenly realized, oh my God, why didn't he think of this!
"He came back, he returned this morning. Could it be that Mrs. Hearst took his plane? Yes, that day, the location of Mrs. Hearst's phone seemed to be heading to the airport."
Sean, military plane, intersection, traffic light, military jeep.
In a flash, all the details collided in Damian's mind.
Could it be that Ashley was in the military vehicle that day?
"Mr. Hearst, the traffic department's surveillance footage is here." Thomas took out a USB drive and nervously placed it on the corner of the desk.
The black-and-white video jumped frame by frame, and Damian's fingers trembled slightly.
Finally, he saw a military vehicle enter the frame.
The traffic light turned on, and a moment later, the car window rolled down, revealing a woman's arm. Almost at the same time, he rolled down his window to smoke.
Before he could look up, the military vehicle's window suddenly rolled up. He just glanced coldly at the car window and didn't pay much attention.
Then, the green light came on, and the military vehicle left before him, quickly disappearing into the traffic.
They had been so close, yet so far apart, not even seeing each other!
Thomas's nose stung, his eyes hurt, and tears welled up, "Mr. Hearst, it seems to be Mrs. Hearst."
No need for "seems," he was sure it was Ashley.
Ashley had clearly seen him. To avoid him, she hurriedly closed the car window and had the driver leave quickly.
Not even wanting to say a final goodbye?
Did she hate him that much?
