Chapter 534 Completely Giving Up on Thoughts of You

At this time, Blue Star didn't have many customers. As a senior VIP, Ashley enjoyed privileges and quickly got a luxury private room.

Second only to the one reserved for Damian.

Before long, the door opened, and Hendrix walked in, dressed in a suit and tie.

His legs had healed, and standing tall, he looked imposing and dignified. Over his crisp suit, he wore a long coat that accentuated his tall and straight figure. With his handsome, chiseled features, he could easily captivate a large number of women in any setting.

One had to admit, Hendrix was very good-looking.

Ashley raised an eyebrow and said familiarly, "Dressed up specially? Looking so handsome."

Hendrix scrutinized Ashley under the crystal chandelier. In such a setting, she was dressed very modestly, in a white turtleneck cashmere top, black jeans with the cuffs tucked into ankle boots, legs crossed, showing off her long and beautiful lines.

His heart couldn't help but beat faster, like a hibernating animal suddenly awakened by the first thunderclap of spring.

Hendrix responded disdainfully, "This is my everyday look. I wouldn't dress up specially for a heartless woman who left without a word."

Ashley didn't mind and smiled, tilting her head, "Don't just stand there, sit down and talk."

"Why are you drinking in broad daylight?" Hendrix walked in and sat across from her.

Ashley picked up the wine bottle and poured him a large glass, "Do you need a reason to drink? If you must have one, let's say it's to welcome me back."

Hendrix's mouth twitched, "Are you okay? If you have something to say, just say it. I know your drinking capacity. Looking so handsome now, you'll be drunk and unconscious later."

"I met Linda. She was the driver who scratched my car back then. She also told me she took the opportunity to set us up." Ashley took a sip of red wine, the slight bitterness spreading through her mouth.

Hendrix raised an eyebrow, "Is that so?"

Didn't he know?

Ashley laughed, "You see, even a powerful entrepreneur like Linda couldn't change the fact that we are not meant to be. As smart as you are, Hendrix, why can't you see that?"

Hendrix's face darkened, "Aren't you a bit too self-absorbed? Leaving without a word, not even a message if you're dead or alive, not even as good as a basic friend."

Ashley stared into his eyes, "So, you have no inappropriate thoughts about me?"

The moment she looked at him, Hendrix's throat tightened, moving up and down, "I'm not a masochist."

He was lying.

Ashley didn't expose him. "Is Esme still at your company?"

Hendrix didn't really want to talk about her, coldly replying, "Yes."

"You see, you change your face immediately when I mention someone who likes you, and you say you have no feelings for me?" Ashley teased him, but before he could retort, she bluntly said, "Damian and I have a son, over a year old. I found out I was pregnant before I went abroad, but Damian still doesn't know about the child."

Hendrix held his wine glass, stunned, his mind momentarily blank, "You had a son? With Damian??"

He wanted to add the most insulting and disgraceful adjectives before Damian's name!

"That's right. To be precise, this is the second time I've been pregnant with his child. When we divorced five years ago, I was also pregnant, but unfortunately, the child didn't survive," Ashley took another sip of wine, using the alcohol to suppress the slight bitterness in her heart, "I'm telling you my secret, not to gain sympathy or to deliberately open old wounds to numb myself, but to let you know that my heart can no longer accommodate anyone else, and I have no expectations for love."

Ashley took a deep breath, her collarbone deeply sunken, "Hendrix, you're a good person. The longer I've known you, the more I think so. You're honest and smart at work, gentlemanly and considerate in life. Even if you're occasionally unruly, that's a shining point of your character, and it doesn't stop you from being an idol in many people's hearts."

Hendrix was still struggling to digest the news of Ashley's miscarriage and childbirth. Hearing her compliments, his expression mixed with heartache, helplessness, and self-mockery, to the point of twitching, "The next sentence is going to be 'you're a good person, but we're not suitable,' right?"

Ashley nodded slowly. Saying such cruel words at their first reunion was a bit heartless, but she knew better than anyone that long pain is worse than short pain. The detours and losses she had experienced, she didn't want others to go through again.

Hendrix, forgive me for pushing you away in such a cruel manner.

"Esme is a good woman. We've met privately and talked about many things. She loves you and is constantly working hard for you. It's not easy to meet someone who wholeheartedly protects and is devoted to you in a lifetime. You could try being with her, or getting married and having children. Your mindset might change."

"What about me? Haven't I been wholehearted towards you? Why don't you try marrying me? Maybe if we had a child, things would be different." Hendrix controlled his emotions, not letting his temper flare.

Ashley bit her lip, and after two seconds, said, "I've been through too much and have lost the ability and passion to love someone."

Hendrix smiled bitterly, poured a glass of whiskey, and drank it in one gulp. The spicy liquor burned its way from his mouth to his stomach, seemingly igniting everything along the way.

He put down the glass heavily, his eyes slightly red, "Ashley, do you have no emotional intelligence or no conscience? Not coming back is one thing, but coming back and shattering someone's dreams, damn it, at least say it more gently!"

Ashley lowered her head, her long eyelashes covering her eyes, hiding the guilt flowing within, "Sorry, but I think being straightforward and clear is more effective."

Hendrix took out a cigarette, lit it, and took a deep drag. The smell of tobacco instantly filled every corner of their breath.

Silence solidified time, as if even the blood had stopped flowing.

Through the thick smoke, Hendrix's eyes, covered with a watery film, looked at the opposite side. On the wide sofa, her figure seemed particularly small, her slender limbs wrapped in clothes, so thin it made his heart ache.

Over the years, he had lost count of how many years had passed.

The initial heartbeat, the warmth of being together, every moment involving her was so beautiful, even if she kept pushing him away.

Hendrix bitterly curled his lips. As Linda said, he was a fool, an idiot.

But feelings are beyond reason. They are uncontrollable, reckless, and once they identify someone, they never give up.

He regretted not being braver back then, not tricking her into his arms when she was young and naive, not being more proactive and trying harder to take her back from Damian, not shamelessly going to Sylvania to find her.

A cigarette was quickly finished. Hendrix's hand trembled slightly as he extinguished the cigarette butt, his voice hoarse from the nicotine, "Ashley..."

Ashley looked up, her eyes perhaps stung by the smoke, watery, "Yes?"

Hendrix said, "You just want me to completely give up on you, don't you?"
