Chapter 239 Eavesdropping
Ashley stammered, "She has no idea about the power behind Robert. If she isn't warned, it could cost the law firm and herself big time."
Robert wasn't just any businessman. He had shady partners like Alexander, who dabbled in both the underworld and legit business.
If Robert found out Lynn was onto him, would she end up like Mark?
Damian's eyes roamed over her face, down her nose, and to her collarbone. He wasn't one for restraint. Seeing her freshly bathed and dressed, he struggled to resist.
"Once she's in Robert's car, do you think she'll come out okay? Warning her now will only make things worse. But..." Damian tapped the shelf. "there's a way to save her."
Ashley, still warm from the bath, couldn't contain her nerves when Damian approached closely.. She stepped aside. "If there's a way, help her and keep the law firm out of it."
Damian said, "Kiss me."
Ashley's eyes widened. "Damian!"
"Kiss me, and I'll send someone to save her. Otherwise, let her sacrifice be in vain. Sky Balance Law Firm isn't my problem," Damian stated firmly.
Ashley clenched her fists. "Forcing me like this, what does a kiss mean?"
Damian frowned and kissed her. He pinned her hands, trapped her legs, and took control. The heat between them grew.
The kiss moved to her shoulder, leaving marks, and explored her collarbone.
After over five minutes, he pulled back, breathing heavily.
Ashley couldn't resist. At first, she kept her teeth clenched, but Damian pried them open. Her mind went fuzzy.
Damian adjusted her bathrobe and rubbed her swollen lips. "Good girl."
Ashley wiped her lips. "You jerk!"
Damian smirked, "Don't want to save her anymore?"
Ashley was furious. "Damian, this is assault!"
"A kiss is assault? Did I sleep with you?"
"You!" Ashley was fuming but remembered her goal. "What are you waiting for? Save her!"
Damian laughed. "My phone's on the coffee table."
Ashley, still angry, grabbed his phone. "You scumbag!"
Damian held her hand and dialed a number. The call was quickly answered.
"Mr. Hearst? What can I do for you?"
Damian said, "Contact Robert and arrange a meeting, no matter the reason."
Without hesitation, the other party simply replied, "Yes!"
Damian hung up and looked at Ashley. "Aren't you going to thank me?"
Ashley tried to shake off his hand. "Mr. Hearst, this just makes things awkward between us. Please respect boundaries."
Damian whispered, "If I didn't respect boundaries, you'd be in my bed, begging for mercy."
Ashley's cheeks flushed. She stomped on his foot.
Damian, in pain, let go and shook his head. "I know it's not your time of the month. Why so emotional?"
"Get out!"
Damian shrugged. "Fine, I'll go take a shower."
As soon as he left, Ashley dashed to the guest bedroom and locked the door, just like last time.
After washing up, Damian saw the closed door and smiled. Thinking a door could stop him was naive.
Soon, the phone rang again.
Thomas said, "Mr. Hearst, we found Alexander's place. Amy is his lover, and they're talking about Mark. We've got a listening device connected. Want to listen?"
Damian knocked on the door but got no response. "If you want evidence, come out," he uttered.
Ashley sat on the bed, annoyed at the love bites Damian left. She snorted, "Who are you fooling?"
"Thomas is eavesdropping in on Alexander. Whether you want to hear it is up to you."
Alexander?
Ashley put on her slippers and opened the door. "How can we eavesdrop?"
Damian walked in and plopped down on the bed. "Get over here."
Ashley felt tricked.
Damian held the phone. "since you're standing so far away, need me to get a speaker for you?"
Ashley moved closer, sitting on the only chair, trying to keep her distance.
"Mr. Smith, do you really not know the man from tonight? It's too risky to cooperate with him rashly."
It was Amy's voice.
Ashley propped her chin. "Patrick said their relationship was unusual, and he was right."
Damian glanced at her, and Ashley glared back.
Alexander: "I had someone follow him. His car went into the Imperial Residence. We'll know his identity soon. If he dares to come to me, he's either loaded, powerful, or seeking trouble. Someone like that, if not turned friend, makes for a tough enemy."
Ashley said, "Alexander isn't stupid."
Damian laughed. "Did you think everyone was like you?"
"None of your business," Ashley retorted.
Amy: "He's handling that guy like we handled Mark. Does he know something?"
Alexander: "So what if he knows? He can't find evidence. Mark ruined my plans and deserved to die. It's a pity I wasted two helpers. You must be heartbroken for your friend, right?"
'So the dead girl was Amy's sister?' Ashley pondered.
Amy: "Of course. Because of the murder, I didn't even dare to see her one last time or visit her grave. We grew up in an orphanage, like sisters."
Alexander: "I'm avenging you, aren't I? That female lawyer will soon join her in the grave."
Ashley looked at Damian in disbelief.
Damian said, "Now you understand?"
Ashley frowned. "I didn't expect he wanted to frame me for this."
But why not Lucien?
Amy: "Killing a female lawyer is no revenge! The real culprit is Lucien! He defended Mark. He deserves to die!"
As Amy finished her words, what followed were intimate gestures between lovers. Even without seeing, the sounds were enough to make one's blood boil.
Ashley turned her head, not wanting to listen, but she couldn't stop until she got the most wanted information.
The room felt starved of air as the couple's phone intimacy persisted.
Damian irritably tugged at his bathrobe collar. With their attire and this background sound, how could he stay calm?
Finally, the sounds ceased, and Alexander said in a hoarse voice, "Lucien is not easy to deal with. Directly targeting him will bring big trouble. Let's deal with a minor character first to vent your friend's anger. I won't let Lucien go either."
Amy: "You better not lie to me, or I'll bite you!"
Alexander: "Bite me now."
The wiretap continued, but Ashley ended the call. The rest was really unlistenable.
Clearing her throat, she tried to look serious. "This kind of recording can't be used as evidence in court."
Damian's throat was dry, and he suppressed his voice. "Why bother with court? There are at least a hundred ways to make Alexander wish he were dead."
