Chapter 165 Mr. Hearst was Heartbroken
Ashley was dumbfounded.
For six years, it was the first time she heard Damian call her like that, with a tone that could be misunderstood.
Unfortunately, the timing was wrong, the intentions impure, and there was no hint of tenderness or fantasy. All she received was endless disgust.
He was no man - About to be engaged to Miss Bezos, yet trying to please her, occasionally saying sweet words, tempting her when in a good mood, and abandoning her once she was of no use.
He treated her as if she had no dignity.
Ashley gritted her teeth in secret, took a shallow breath, turned to Damian, and put on a smile worthy of an actress. "Mr. Hearst, as I've told you before. Our relationship is purely a business partnership. Mr. Hearst, you have shown me respect and are willing to entrust me with this heavy responsibility. I will do my best to seek the greatest benefit for you. However, flirting doesn't seem to be included in our agreement, does it?"
The silver fork in Trinity's hand fell into the porcelain plate, making a crisp sound.
She widened her eyes in disbelief, staring at Ashley.
Trinity thought, 'How dare she speak to Damian like that? She must have felt lucky to be alive.'
Damian was momentarily stunned by her fluent retort. Before he could speak, he heard her continue, "Miss Bezos, I've warned you before. To marry a man like Mr. Hearst, who is cunning and still can't forget his ex, you must have a strong mentality. Look, even in your presence, he doesn't miss the chance to pursue other women. When you're not around, the situation is unimaginable. I used to have limited understanding, thinking that having an ex-husband as a background could help my career development. But after this incident, I've realized that if a man can't bring joy to myself, everything else is meaningless."
Trinity opened her mouth, but it took her a while to say, "Ashley, are you crazy? You're talking to Mr. Hearst."
Among the three person, only Damian had a faint smile at the corner of his mouth, crossing his long legs, playing with the fork in his hand, lightly tapping it with his long fingers. "She's not crazy. She's just expressing her true thoughts. She's very courageous."
Trinity looked at him, then at Ashley, puzzled. "She's insulting you!"
Damian chuckled softly. "Her words may not be pleasant, but she's not wrong."
Trinity was even more surprised. She must have misheard. Damian was actually defending Ashley.
Even though Trinity was prepared to coexist with Ashley for a long time, hearing his partiality made her quite angry and resentful. Trinity put on a smile, trying to be friendly. "Ashley, after all, you are a Ph.D. who is well-versed in law. Speaking ill of others casually, you should be careful of committing defamation. I believe Mr. Hearst wouldn't do such a thing. Please refrain from speaking recklessly."
Ashley, seeing Trinity in her current state, couldn't help but think of her own past foolishness and naivety, being used as a target by him and feeling happy about it. Miss Bezos was truly pitiful. "Miss Bezos's sincerity is touching, but unfortunately, not all sincerity can be reciprocated with genuine feelings."
Ashley was now just a failure, speaking cold words that Trinity wouldn't take to heart. Instead, Trinity responded with a colder smile. "Only children talk about love. In the adult world, compatibility is more important. We have the same family background and make progress together, Damian and I are both friends and lovers. I believe you will also meet your Mr. Right. By the way, your law firm should have many outstanding young talents."
Damian tasted his food, but his gaze unconsciously drifted away, brushing over Ashley's expression.
There were few outstanding young talents, but there were plenty of dangerous and lowly individuals.
Ashley cut into her bread, took a small bite, and chewed slowly. "Miss Bezos probably doesn't know much about our law firm."
Trinity coughed, pretending to drink milk casually. "Lawyers are supposed to be smart and wise; I can guess that."
Furrowing his brow, Damian said, "We'll meet at the hotel entrance at three in the afternoon."
Ashley furrowed her brows tightly, looking at her watch, and said, "I'm sorry, Mr. Hearst, but I'm afraid I can't make it. Have a great time with Miss Bezos. I'm done eating. Enjoy your meal."
Trinity was momentarily angry. "Ashley, your attitude is arrogant. We invited you out of respect. Don't think too highly of yourself!"
Indeed, in their eyes, she was just an insignificant person.
If they called, she had to come. If they wanted her to be aside, she had to stay around.
Ashley set down her utensils, restrained her temper, and said, "Mr. Hearst, I'm sorry. But I don't have the time. I won't go. Is that okay?"
Damian's throat tightened, as if something was stuck there, and he somewhat hoarsely replied, "It's fine."
Ashley smiled and nodded gratefully. "Thank you, Mr. Hearst. I'll leave now."
Ashley's slender legs moved rhythmically, with her long hair swaying gently behind her. She departed gracefully.
Damian glanced in the direction she left, feeling a myriad of emotions in his heart.
She seemed so composed, so at ease, as if she had let go completely.
As she was about to leave the restaurant, Ashley encouraged herself not to look back. This time, they had to clarify things. There was no possibility between them.
She said to herself, 'Remember, Ashley, if a relationship becomes abnormal, it can't continue. This time, you must be the one to leave first.'
The one who leaves first can leave with style!
The dining table was quiet, like a deserted graveyard.
Trinity's fists clenched and her veins popping. Her pink makeup reddened with anger and her eyes filled with deep grievance and anger, trembling lips finally managed to ask, "I just said a few words. Mr. Hearst, you won't feel sorry for her, will you?"
Damian furrowed his brow. "More importantly, I want to know where you get the confidence to show off in front of me."
Trinity coquettishly said, "It's my fault for not mentioning going to see the Elvin Clock Tower in advance. It was a spontaneous idea, and Ashley is under a lot of work pressure. Taking her out to relax should be good."
Damian interrupted her. "Regarding the Dreamvale project, what agreement did you reach with my grandfather?"
Trinity suddenly stopped speaking. She avoided his gaze. "I don't know what you're talking about. There's no agreement. I just wanted to work with you on this."
Damian sneered. "Don't think I won't take action against women. I'm not as upright as you think."
Trinity clenched her teeth, looking down at the knife and fork in her plate as if each blade was stabbing her heart. After a while, she looked up again. "Yes, I proposed a cooperation condition to Anthony. After the matter is settled, we will get engaged. The Hearst family will announce to the public that I am your fiancée. That's correct. We are originally aiming for marriage."
A sharp gaze shot from Damian. "You continue to be evasive."
Perhaps due to nervousness or the intimidating aura Damian exuded, Trinity's face turned pale and her eyes reddened, with tears rolling down. She cried with a sense of grievance. "I've been so good to you. Everything I've done was for you, to be with you. I've tried so hard, I can even tolerate your affairs with Ashley, what else do you want from me?"
Through thin tears, she looked at the man who occupied her heart. She was afraid of losing him, afraid of him turning away. She even wanted to exchange all her life for a gentle look from Damian.
However, when Damian looked at her, there was only indifference in his eyes. "If you play games with me, you will lose thoroughly."
