Chapter 566 Do Not Covet Married Men

Anne gripped the sofa with her fingers and shouted, "You're lying! There's no such law. I want to see Matthew. I want to talk to him. You can't bully me!"

Ashley said, "Are you that out of touch? Matthew broke the law and has been apprehended. He's serving a ten-year sentence in our country's prison without parole. During this time, he's lost all his power and can't help you."

Anne was stunned, "No way! Matthew has a powerful team of lawyers. He won't go to jail! You're lying to me! You're lying!!"

She screamed and tried to lunge at Ashley.

Samantha, quick on her feet, pressed down on her shoulder. It didn't seem like she used much force, but Anne couldn't move and had to sit there obediently, cursing and arguing.

Ashley rubbed her ears and frowned, "I came here specifically to tell you that if you want to retain the last bit of dignity, you'd better accept a settlement. End this quickly and handle it discreetly before your friends and family find out. Start a new life. You're still young and have many choices ahead. Find a job, marry a good man, and get what you want with your own hands. But if you insist on going to court, believe me, the media will be more than happy to make a spectacle of a new rich man's mistress. Facebook and Twitter have billions of users. Do you want to be the center of attention?"

Hearing this, Anne completely lost control. She grabbed her hair with both hands and screamed, "Get out! Get out! I don't want to hear it. I don't know anything! I want to see Matthew! I want to see him!"

She had called Matthew many times, but no one answered.

It was as if he had disappeared, completely out of touch.

It turned out he was in prison!

How could that be?? Matthew said he had convinced Luna to testify. That foolish woman listened to everything he said and went to Rochester City with their child as soon as she got the news!

Matthew said the jury would definitely sympathize with him. He could apply for parole first and then slowly find evidence to delay the time. Within a year, he could return to Evercrest City, divorce Luna, and then they would be together officially. She would be Matthew's wife!

They were going to get married and live happily ever after, like a fairy tale prince and princess.

Matthew was her prince, and she was just temporarily playing Cinderella.

And the beautiful future that was about to be hers was gone just like that??

Gone??

Samantha swiftly restrained her hands without saying a word, completely subduing her.

Anne cried out in pain, wailing and sobbing uncontrollably, "I don't believe it. I want to go to court! I'm not convinced! I don't believe it. This is unfair! You hateful woman! I hate you!"

Ashley ignored her hysterical words, "Miss Anne, do you have a lawyer? Do you want to defend yourself?"

Anne was stunned for a moment. She thought the court summons was just a trick and didn't expect it to be so complicated, so she didn't hire a lawyer.

Hiring a lawyer would cost a lot of money, and even if she won, she would have to give a lot to the lawyer. She didn't want to share the money with anyone!

"I've been with Matthew for four years. We truly love each other. You have no right to take away my things! No one has the right!!"

Four years? The best years of a girl's youth.

Ashley saw that she had completely lost her mind and didn't need to say anything more. She picked up her bag and stood up, feeling sympathetic, "Miss Anne, I'm sorry for what happened to you, but the law is the law. Your complaints are meaningless. The only thing you can hope for is the future."

With that, Ashley left the apartment.

As she went downstairs, she could still hear Anne's screams.

She got in the car and headed to the hotel.

Samantha rubbed her nose. "So, if she loses the case, Anne has to return everything?"

Ashley nodded, "That's right. Anything Matthew bought for her has to be returned."

Samantha said, "So she slept with Matthew for four years for nothing? She got nothing out of it?"

Ashley turned her head, surprised that Samantha seemed to care about such things, "At least she lived well for those four years, but not anymore. They say the cost of cheating is low, especially for those wives who choose to let it go. But if they encounter someone ruthless, the mistress will be utterly disgraced, and all the wealth will disappear."

Samantha pouted, "It seems like the men don't lose much. The money they get back is still theirs, right?"

"Not necessarily. After recovering the assets, if they file for divorce, the assets have to be divided. Even if they're already divorced, as long as it's determined that the assets were given by the husband while married, they can still be recovered and then divided with the ex-wife."

"Overall, the cost for men is still too low. The mistresses suffer more."

"If you don't want to suffer, control yourself and don't fall for married men. Coveting someone else's things comes with a price. Many girls, relying on their youth and beauty, covet successful married men without realizing that those experienced men are not so easily fooled. Matthew may not have truly wanted to marry Anne. He was just temporarily transferring assets. After the divorce, he would definitely take the money back. At that time, both women would be victims, and he could walk away unscathed."

"Really sinister."

"Yes, the charm of mature men is ultimately full of schemes. They don't show their hand while interacting, but strike decisively when they turn around."

Ashley rubbed her temples. Indeed, she still didn't like divorce cases.

She would rather deal with huge commercial asset disputes than tear open the dirty hearts in relationships.

Samantha looked out the car window, her eyes a bit dim, "If she understood this, she wouldn't have ended up like that."

"Who?" Ashley heard her mumble but didn't catch it.

Samantha shook her head, "Nothing. Pitiful people often have something hateful about them."

They arrived at the hotel.

Ashley settled her things and contacted Todd to have dinner at his place that evening.

Todd and his wife were overjoyed and prepared the meal in advance.

Considering that Samantha was someone Damian had brought in, Ashley didn't want her to know about Happy's existence.

"Samantha, I'm going to my parents' place. Pick me up tomorrow morning. You have the evening to yourself."

"I'll take you there and leave after you're safely home."

Coming all this way but not inviting her in for a meal made Ashley feel guilty. For Happy's privacy, she had to be firm, "Alright."

When the car arrived at the apartment building, Ashley said, "Wait here. I'll be right back with something!"

"Okay."

Samantha looked up to confirm the floor she was going to.

The surroundings were quiet, and the security in the residential area was decent. There were few alleys, making it hard for bad people to hide.

It was clear that Ashley's family was very cautious, perhaps out of fear, living so carefully.

Soon, Ashley came down with a paper bag and handed it through the car window, "My mom made dinner. It's hot. You can eat it right away."

Samantha was surprised, holding the paper bag, her heart touched, "For me?"

"Yes, there are too many people at home, so it's inconvenient to invite you up. I hope you don't mind."

Samantha shook her head, smiling, "I don't think much of it."

Besides, she was just a bodyguard, doing her job for money. She had no right to demand anything.

On the contrary, Ashley didn't seem to treat her as a subordinate but more like a friend.

Ashley waved, "Enjoy your meal. See you tomorrow."

After Ashley left, Samantha leaned back in her seat, feeling a warmth in her heart.

After all these years of braving the elements, she hadn't been moved often. But since meeting Ashley, something felt different.

"Park the car here. We're not going anywhere," she told the driver.

The driver understood, "Yes, Miss."

Samantha took out the food one by one, opened the lids, and placed them on the seat next to her. The hot, fragrant steak and green vegetables were all very delicious.

Soon, the aroma filled the air.

She took a photo and sent it to Damian.

"Ms. Astor's mom made this. It's delicious."

Damian quickly replied, "Are you showing off?"

Samantha, holding a new fork, took a bite of the steak. It was delicious. She typed with one hand, "I guess you haven't tried it. Scarlett's steak is as good as Cloud ManHearston's chef."

She felt like laughing.

Damian replied, "I don't want to talk to you!"

Samantha, biting her fork, thought for a moment and sent another message, "By the way, she said she used to love snow, but not so much anymore. It seems something unpleasant happened on a snowy day. Does this have anything to do with you?"
