Chapter 465 Tear Him Apart First
Nathan sneered, looked at Ashley, then turned to Damian, "Damian, are you really defending her like this?"
"None of your business."
No need to say another word.
Nathan gritted his teeth. Victor was right; if he wanted to shake Damian's position at KM, Ashley was a good starting point. Sooner or later, Damian would be ruined because of her!
"Fine, if you're so determined, don't blame me for not warning you. KM isn't just yours; it embodies the Hearst family's century-old efforts. It's the result of the entire family's maintenance. Besides, your shares aren't enough to dominate everything."
Ashley pressed her lips together, realizing that Damian might really anger Anthony this time. What would Anthony do?
Would he kick Damian out? Or demote him?
Wouldn't that mean she had harmed him?
Damian, however, seemed completely indifferent, as if KM's position held no allure for him. "The company's development isn't something for you to dictate. Now leave."
Nathan left, slamming the door hard.
The loud bang vented his anger.
After dealing with everything, Damian looked at the unflinching Ashley, "Scared stiff? Or moved?"
Ashley carried the fruit over, calmed down for a moment, and spoke, "Why did you confront Nathan head-on? Actually, he's not wrong. You're not the largest shareholder of KM. Ultimately, the group's power is still in your grandfather's hands. Whether it will be handed over to you is still uncertain. If you defy him like this, he might kick you out. Can't you control yourself a bit?"
Damian held a fork, eating a small piece of apple, "A mere Nathan, and you think I should yield?"
"What I mean is, before you have absolute power, you could be a bit more low-key. After all, there are two of them. If they combine their shares, they might have as much as you. Besides, your cousin, though never involved in company affairs, also holds some shares. If they unite, how much chance do you have?"
Damian said, "You seem to care more about this position than I do."
"I said I'd help you, at least I should be of some use."
Damian said, "As long as I'm alive, KM will definitely be mine. Even combined, they are no match for me. But with you here, my chances are even greater."
As for why the chances were greater, it was probably because he had developed an interest in seizing it.
Ashley's ears turned a bit red. She changed the subject, "Were you deliberately provoking Nathan with those words just now?"
Damian frowned, "What do you think?"
She didn't know.
It felt like Damian disdained using any tactics against Nathan.
But he didn't seem to need to make her sound so important in front of the Hearst family either.
"Don't say that again. Didn't you see Nathan's eyes? He wants to tear me apart."
Damian smirked, "With your skills, you could tear him apart before he even makes a move."
Ashley was speechless.
He really thought highly of her!
Nathan furiously recounted everything that happened in the CEO's office to Victor, so angry he could grind his teeth to dust.
After venting, he sinisterly asked, "Victor, what are you going to do?"
Victor stood by the window, gazing at the view of Rochester City. Smoke billowed from his nostrils, shrouding the intense murderous intent in his eyes. "Damian has been managing the company for years, with rapid development. Grandpa has basically given him full control. He is cautious and leaves no loose ends. Now, Ashley's appearance is undoubtedly the only flaw in this big net. The more he acts willfully, the deeper Grandpa's resistance."
Nathan was furious, eager to kick Damian out of his position immediately. "Victor, let's go to Grandpa's house tonight and tell him!"
Victor flicked the ash off his cigarette and sneered, "Why do it ourselves? Someone else is more suitable for this kind of thing."
Nathan thought for a moment, "Right! If Grandpa listens, Damian will be in trouble. If he doesn't, the one who reported it will be in trouble. We'll just watch and see."
"Go to Law and Politics University and bring Evelina home. She should also go to Grandpa's place to show some filial piety."
Nathan hesitated, "Victor, Evelina isn't Faye. Grandpa doesn't dote on her as much."
"Don't worry, at most she'll get scolded. Do you want to get beaten instead?"
Nathan wasn't stupid, "I'll go get her and give her a good brainwash on the way, so she doesn't keep foolishly clinging to Damian. Fool, doesn't even know who her real brother is!"
After Nathan left, Victor forcefully extinguished his cigarette.
So what if he was her real brother? To hold power and position, one must be ruthless.
The phone rang, and Ashley glanced at it before stepping out of the office.
"Uncle."
Paula had been in Eirondia for so many days and had managed to stay calm, only contacting her now.
Fred, as always, spoke earnestly with a smile, "Am I disturbing your work?"
Ashley looked at the view outside the tea room's floor-to-ceiling window, "I don't have much work to be busy with right now."
She had to complain first to greatly discount whatever her uncle was about to say.
Who knew how many lies Paula had spun over there?
After all, her uncle was Paula's biological father. Over time, his love for his daughter would surely overcome reason. They were connected by blood, and she was an outsider.
Fred indeed sounded a bit embarrassed, "I've scolded Paula about this matter. She realizes her mistake. I apologize to you again."
"No need, Uncle. It's not your fault."
Fred said, "Then, can you let her off for my sake? Paula has been having nightmares every day, losing weight, afraid that you... that someone will make things difficult for her."
Sure enough, she had spun quite a few lies!
Maybe she even said that Ashley threatened to have her killed.
"Uncle, you're overthinking. Paula and I have been like sisters since childhood. It won't affect our relationship. The salary level back home isn't as good as in Eirondia, and she can take care of you. That's why I encouraged her to go back."
Everyone knew the truth, but as long as it wasn't exposed, they could maintain a superficial peace.
"With your words, I'm relieved. I won't disturb your work."
"Take care of yourself, Uncle. After all, the court hasn't issued a not guilty verdict yet."
This was both a reminder and a warning.
To keep them in check.
"Alright, then, goodbye."
Ashley held her phone, reflecting on herself.
Was she too soft on Paula?
Her uncle's life was still in KM's hands, and she was the only one who could negotiate with Damian. Yet Paula even schemed against her.
If it were Damian, what would he do?
Judging by his attitude towards Nathan and Victor, if they dared to offend him, he would definitely kick them out.
That was why he could firmly hold the CEO position.
Was family really as thin as paper?
"What's up with Ms. Astor? Isn't her relationship with Mr. Hearst a bit too ambiguous?"
"What Ms. Astor? She seems more like a doormat for Mr. Hearst, given her good figure and looks."
"Who would've thought, a lawyer doing such things for money! It's been over ten days, she might even have a kid by now!"
"If it were you, being favored by Mr. Hearst, would you still want money? With a kid, marrying into a wealthy family, who cares about the means?"
"True!"
Two girls were chatting and laughing as they walked by, only to be startled by Ashley's faint smile.
"Ms. Astor?"
Ashley, in her high heels, took a couple of steps, her beautiful face beaming with a bright smile, "Talking about me? Go on."
