Chapter 278 Tsunami

In the distance, it looked like a insurmountable wall of seawater just popped up outta nowhere on the black ocean, rolling towards them like some dark, towering monster.

Just as they got a good look at that massive black wave, the ship got slammed by another one. Water came crashing over the railing, flooding the deck like a thunderstorm on steroids.

"Ah!" Esme screamed, totally freaked out, and then the giant wave rolled in from the front like it was gonna rip the ship apart.

Damian's eyes narrowed, and he said coldly, "It's a tsunami; get inside, now."

Ashley had never seen a tsunami before, but looking at that massive, dark beast, she knew this was gonna be way worse than it looked. They were staring down the first disaster of the summer.

Ashley started running, but a huge wave splashed over her, soaking her from head to toe.

Damian grabbed her hand, holding it tight, puting his another arm on her back to push her forward. "I'm here."

Damian's words calmed Ashley down a bit.

Another wave hit her back, and the icy seawater lashed her like a whip, making her gasp in pain.

Hit by another smack of the wave, Esme twisted her ankle and slipped to the ground. Hendrix, who had already run ahead, cursed under his breath and turned back to pull her up. Seeing her pained expression, he had no choice but to support her as they stumbled forward, "Hang in there."

Esme stared blankly at his face, her earlier annoyance disappearing instantly. "Thanks."

Hendrix showed no expression. "Don't get any ideas; I just don't wanna watch you die."

Esme's ankle throbbed with pain, and she didn't have the strength to argue. Regardless of his reasons, she was grateful for his help.

When they hurried back to the cabin, they heard the captain's orders, "Everyone, get to your rooms now! The tsunami's coming! Everyone on deck. Get back to the cabin!"

Emergency signals blared on the luxury cruise ship; all the staff threw on life jackets, ready for action. The well-trained sailors checked the safety equipment one by one, their faces serious, their movements quick.

The atmosphere on the ship was super tense.

Damian safely got Ashley to her room, closing the doors and windows, "The tsunami's range is too big, even if we turn back, we can't avoid it. Looks like we're in for a rough night, but tsunamis usually cause waves rather than directly tearing ships apart. As long as the ship doesn't sink, we can survive this."

Ashley, soaked to the bone, shivered from the cold, "If we face the tsunami head-on, the survival rate is probably less than ten percent. We can only hope this ship is sturdy enough, and trust the crew are professional enough."

Didn't Sven check the weather? Surely the captain today wasn't an intern?

How could there have been no warning for such an extreme weather event like a tsunami? How could they have made such a basic mistake?

Damian handed her a clean towel, wrapping most of her in it, then went to find the life jackets in the room. "Yeah, looks like we might die together."

Ashley, drenched in seawater, her hair dripping wet, wiped herself haphazardly and took off her wet clothes. If she caught a cold and had no strength to escape, it would be a real tragedy.

Damian arrived with the life rings just as Ashley pulled her dress up to her waist, revealing a large expanse of skin. He swallowed hard, "Ashley. You're not messing with me now, are you?"

Ashley glared at him, still wrestling with her wet dress, "We might die here today, who cares about that stuff. Just consider it a perk for Mr. Hearst. Look if you want."

Damian's mouth twitched. Her righteous tone doused most of his rising emotions, "There aren't any suitable clothes here; just find something to keep warm."

Ashley grabbed a dry bathrobe, tied it tightly around her waist, and found some emergency clothes for women in the closet. The underwear was too small, so she had to squeeze into it, looking at the tight bra in distress, feeling suffocated and thinking she might get breast reduction surgery in this.

Caught up in the life-and-death situation, Ashley didn't pay attention to the setting while changing clothes, nor did she notice Damian's position allowed him to see her every move. When she finally adjusted her underwear to a comfortable fit, she awkwardly met Damian's gaze!

Ashley felt completely uncomfortable.

Damian coughed, "Looks like I should thank you, Ashley. A nice perk before death."

Ashley grabbed a towel and threw it at his head, "That's enough; you're watching me the whole time!"

Damian easily caught the towel, wiping his half-wet hair, "Put on your life jacket."

Ashley was frustrated. The long dress was inconvenient for escaping, the bathrobe was also inconvenient, and wearing a life jacket made her look ridiculous. Her embarrassment was one thing, and doing it in front of Damian was the worst.

He always happened to be there in her embarrassed moments.

With another bang, the ship was being hit by giant waves, the whole space tilted at a strange angle as if it was about to be overturned.

The floor under Ashley's feet was almost at a forty-five-degree angle, and she uncontrollably fell against Damian, finally sticking to him and not sliding down further.

Damian held onto a metal lamp fixture welded to the wall with one hand and Ashley with the other. "Do you want to see the tsunami?"

Ashley followed his gaze to the window. Outside the sealed glass, a giant wave illuminated by light was more shocking than any CGI animation, towering and covering the sky. And in the face of such a wave, humans were insignificant, like grains of sand before an unstoppable force.

In the moment of life and death, Ashley thought of a saying, "Someone said, if all the world's leaders were sent to the moon for a peace conference, there would be no more wars on Earth. From the moon, Earth is just a small blue ping-pong ball. The fame and power we fight for are just tiny specks of dust, so laughable and insignificant."

Damian looked down at her, her pale lips moving, incredibly captivating.

He suddenly thought that even if the tsunami took them today, dying with her didn't seem so bad.

He didn't care about world peace or anything else. In his heart, the only thing he cared about was the woman in his arms.

He called her softly, "Ashley."

Ashley looked up; the turbulence was so intense. Her expression was pained, and she had no time to manage it. "What is it? Do you have any last words for me to pass on? If I survive, I'll make sure to do it."

Damian frowned, holding her steadily amidst the violent shaking, "There's something I want to tell you."

"Ah!" The ship suddenly lurched violently, tilting sharply to the left and then slamming to the right. It was like fish and shrimp in a colander, tossed around at the whim of nature, the grand chef.

Ashley felt her insides were being jumbled, the dizziness made her nauseous, and she could only breathe through both her mouth and nose.

"Is this what death feels like? Mr. Hearst, I have something to tell you, too." Ashley said.
