Chapter 408 Boyfriend
Harold didn't say it out loud, but what he meant was, "You're Damian's ex-wife, and Theo and Damian have been friends for years. How could you not know him?"
Given this relationship, of course, we should take advantage of it. Are we going to let others benefit while we miss out?
Ashley pouted.
She didn't like being entangled with Damian, yet she was being used to leverage her connections for the company's expansion. Businesspeople, they're all the same at heart.
Harold didn't mind being exposed by her and instead gave a mischievous smile, "Lynn just left, and the office is already gossiping about how cunning and strategic you are, kicking out a senior member. Don't you want to take this opportunity to show them what you're made of?"
Ashley thought to herself, "Do I really need to care about these things?"
"Thank you, Mr. Brin, for the advice. You truly are an industry elite, with deep foresight, without giving anything away. I admire and appreciate it!"
Harold watched her leave, sighed, and muttered to himself, "Fool, it's because you're too naive. You don't care about the nasty rumors behind your back, but I can't stand hearing them."
"Good morning, Mr. Ross!"
Since joining Justice Peak Law Firm, Lynn was the first to arrive at the office every morning, making coffee for Sean and organizing files.
She started as an assistant, with a gentle and humble attitude, establishing a persona of grace and elegance.
Today, like any other day, she was tidying up Sean's office.
Sean put down his briefcase and hung his suit on the coat rack.
Lynn reached out to take it, "Let me do it."
Sean said, "Thank you."
Gentle and courteous, with a refined demeanor.
He was a man completely different from Hendrix, making Lynn realize the difference between a nobleman and a vulgar businessman.
It turns out, being arrogant and prickly isn't the only way to show power and influence. A noble family like Sean's, who keeps a low profile, is the true man worth admiring.
With a smile on her face, Lynn once again felt grateful for her wise choice.
Leaving that jerk Hendrix and getting on board with Sean, wouldn't her life be smooth sailing to the top?
"Mr. Ross, the coffee is ready, and today's schedule is on the sticky note. Please take a look."
The schedule was handwritten by her, written three times before she put it up.
The handwriting was clear and elegant.
She had practiced for a long time, especially Sean's name, until her hand almost broke.
Sean saw her handwritten note and praised, "Nice handwriting. Nowadays, people don't like to write; they just type on keyboards."
Lynn gently said, "I'm afraid my handwriting will be ruined by the keyboard, so I try to keep the habit of writing. I actually have to thank my grandfather for this; he was a soldier and was quite strict with me."
Sean asked, "Really? Your grandfather was a soldier?"
Lynn guessed he would be interested in this and continued, "Yes, my grandfather always said that the military is where real men should go. The safety of the borders needs someone to guard it; otherwise, how can we have peace and prosperity? Every time I hear my grandfather talk about the past, I get so moved I want to cry."
Sean said, "Your grandfather is admirable."
Lynn wanted to say more but saw Sean opening his computer to start working, so she sensibly said, "I'll leave now. Mr. Ross, let me know if you need anything."
She walked out slowly, silently hoping Sean would call her back to say a few more words.
They only talked about work, never about personal life.
The progress was really too slow.
"Wait." Behind her, Sean really called out.
Lynn was overjoyed and quickly turned back, "Mr. Ross, what is it?"
Sean held a file in his left hand, his right hand still on the mouse, "Take this to the director's office and tell him it's needed for the afternoon trial."
Lynn took the file, feeling a bit disappointed but didn't show it, "Okay, Mr. Ross."
After a brief pause, Sean said, "You used to work at Sky Balance Law Firm, right? Did you handle a case with Ashley?"
The last thing Lynn wanted to mention was that case, so she deflected, "Mr. Ross, Sky Balance Law Firm treated me well, but now that I'm at Justice Peak Law Firm, I only want to serve Justice Peak Law Firm wholeheartedly..."
Sean said, "Don't be nervous, I was just asking casually. Are you familiar with Ms. Astor?"
Lynn hated hearing about Ashley, but everyone seemed to love asking about her!
These past few days at Justice Peak Law Firm, the director, deputy director, and several senior lawyers had all asked her about Ashley. Naturally, she didn't speak well of Ashley. After a few conversations, she believed some had already concluded that Ashley was a woman who climbed up by stepping on men.
But she didn't expect even Sean to be curious about Ashley.
Were these people crazy?
Lynn carefully said, "Not very familiar, but Ms. Astor is a favorite at Sky Balance Law Firm. Our leaders all liked her, especially Mr. Long, who gave her a lot of special attention privately."
She deliberately paused, pretending to have said too much, and quickly added with a smile, "Ms. Astor is very capable; I learned a lot from her."
These words were ambiguous, subtly hinting at an unusual relationship between Ashley and the higher-ups.
Sean smiled faintly, "Is that so."
Lynn added, "Actually, Ms. Astor is most famous not for her legal skills, but for her personal charm. She's beautiful and has a strong personality, so it's no surprise she has a lot of admirers. But strangely, she had a stable boyfriend, and then they suddenly broke up."
Sean still had a calm expression, "I hadn't heard that Ms. Astor had a boyfriend."
"She did. Her boyfriend sent her roses twice a week, it was quite a spectacle, we were all so envious."
A hint of warmth appeared in Sean's otherwise calm demeanor, "The one who sent flowers was her boyfriend?"
"Yes, she said so herself."
After Lynn left, Sean let go of the mouse and turned his chair to look out the window.
The clear sky, the rising sun, Rochester City's summer had long begun, but today's sun wasn't scorching.
The term "boyfriend" was like a spring breeze, blowing to his lips, sweeping away the heavy mood, revealing a rare smile.
Ashley didn't acknowledge his status, but she used this as an excuse.
But no matter what, Sean was pleased.
Even if it was from a distance, just thinking about their subtle connection made his heart skip a beat.
He thought he was really hopeless.
At his age, still unable to control his emotions over such a small thing.
TranquilTea Haven.
Theo picked up a small cup and took a sip, "This is so you, top-quality tea leaves and spring water, quite picky."
Damian also held his teacup, sipping, "As if you're not picky. Would you drink just any tea?"
Hayden said, "Both of you shut up for a moment. Let me say something. What day is it today? Just tea and water? This isn't our style."
