Chapter 377 On the Highway, a Man-Made Fate

Lynn's face grew increasingly stiff. She wanted to curse and vent, but her anger was stuck in her chest. In the end, she could only squeeze out, "You... you're talking nonsense!"

Ashley didn't want to expose her, but she couldn't stand her hypocrisy any longer and had long wanted to tear it apart herself. "That wealthy wife of your boss is my college roommate."

Lynn immediately softened, slumping in her chair, almost unable to get up. "What... what do you want?"

Ashley said, "I didn't use this against you before because I didn't want to mix work and personal life. So I tried to stick to the facts. But if you keep causing me trouble, who knows, one day I might get fed up..."

Lynn urgently interrupted her, speaking gently, "Ms. Astor, I'm here to say goodbye today. I don't want to argue."

She had originally wanted to boast a bit. She had secured the final round of interviews at Justice Peak Law Firm, and getting in was a sure thing. Damn Ashley, couldn't she let her have one moment of satisfaction?

Ashley said, "Alright, if you don't provoke me, I'll give you some dignity. I wish you a bright future and to stay clean."

Lynn gritted her teeth, unable to hold back her anger. "I admit I'm not clean, I'm cheap, but you're not me. You haven't suffered like I have! You don't know how hard it is for someone from a poor background!"

Ashley shot her a sharp look. "Don't make excuses for your degradation."

Lynn, furious, stood up and slammed her hands on the table. "You're not much better. You, Harold, and Hendrix, are you clean? Ashley, let's not look down on each other. We're all the same!"

Ashley pointed to the door. "Get out."

"Just wait, Ashley. I'm looking forward to facing you in court!"

Ashley always adhered to the principle of "not arguing with fools." As long as Lynn didn't continue to cause trouble, they would part ways and never bother each other again.

As for what she had done before, she wouldn't bring it up to Hendrix.

She mentioned it today to hint that if Lynn caused trouble behind her back, it was uncertain who would fall.

"Alright, take care."

Lynn walked out of the law firm, put on an elegant and beautiful smile, and dialed a number. "Nikolai, hello, this is Lynn. When will Mr. Ross be available? When can we meet?"

On the other end, Nikolai happened to be with Sean. Covering the phone, he whispered, "Mr. Ross, it's Lynn. After two rounds of interviews, Mr. Phillips has a good impression of her. You will conduct the third interview personally. She's asking for your availability."

Sean didn't have a strong impression of Lynn. After all, with Justice Peak Law Firm opening a new department, there were countless interviewees. Lysander handled the big picture, and he focused on the details. Many files hadn't reached him yet. "Which Lynn?"

Nikolai felt a bit uneasy. Sean didn't even remember her. "From Sky Balance Law Firm, specializing in divorce cases, and a colleague of Ms. Astor."

Sean suddenly remembered. "Oh, her... I've been running into her a lot lately."

Nikolai was curious. "At the courthouse?"

"Around my neighborhood. She seems to live nearby."

They had bumped into each other during morning runs, evening walks, and even once at the supermarket.

Sean shook his head and smiled. If only he had such serendipity with Ashley...

Seeing Sean's smile, Nikolai's anxious heart settled. It seemed Sean had a good impression of Lynn.

"When should we schedule it?"

"Tomorrow."

After informing Lynn of the time, Nikolai hung up the phone. "Mr. Ross, do you have any plans for the weekend? A few of us from the firm are planning a camping trip. Would you like to join?"

Sean replied, "You guys have fun. I'll be taking my kid to her classes."

Nikolai admired Sean immensely for this. No matter how busy he was during the week, he always reserved the entire weekend for his child, accompanying her to dance and piano lessons, and in the evening, helping her with calligraphy and drawing.

Nikolai still remembered the last time he had to deliver documents to Sean's house on a weekend. He saw Sean and his daughter kneeling in the living room, playing with Legos. The scene was heartwarming.

Who would have thought that the formidable Sean in the workplace was such a loving father at home?

Lynn, holding her phone, glanced coldly back at the office building and sneered, "One day, all of you will look up to me!"

The next day.

Ashley packed a simple bag and set off for Limehof.

On a non-holiday, there weren't many cars on the highway, so she didn't have to worry much about traffic conditions, and there was no congestion.

Around the same time, Damian also got on the highway and soon noticed a familiar car.

Same model, same license plate.

Ashley?

Confirming that the car ahead was Ashley's, Damian's heart skipped a beat.

Where was she going? A business trip or a personal trip? Was anyone with her?

With these questions in mind, Damian stepped on the gas and passed her car at the right moment.

In that glance, he saw that Ashley was alone in the car.

Moments later, he slowed down and returned to follow behind her, maintaining a similar speed, tailing her all the way.

When Ashley stopped at a service area, Damian also pulled in, parking 50 feet away in another lot.

Within 10 minutes, he saw Ashley come out, holding a packaged box of bread.

This scene reminded him of the last time they had a quick meal at a service area.

Through the car window, Damian smiled slightly, showing the only smile he had in the past few days.

He watched as Ashley sat in her car, rolled down the window, and slowly ate and drank, occasionally glancing ahead.

The wind blew her hair, and she raised her hand to tuck it behind her ear. She seemed to be looking for something to tie her hair with but couldn't find it, sighing in frustration.

On a whim, Damian took out his phone and snapped a distant side profile photo.

Then her gaze lingered on a couple for a few seconds. Only when the couple got into their car did she look down, close the packaging, and stop eating.

Was she affected?

Back on the road, Damian continued to follow her at a steady pace. He began to suspect that Ashley might also be heading to Limehof.

With this thought, Damian decided to take a chance.

Ashley was driving at a moderate speed in the middle lane when she suddenly saw a car speed past her on the left.

A fast-moving black shadow whipped up a gust of wind.

There were plenty of thrill-seekers on the highway, so she didn't pay much attention.

But after driving for another ten minutes, she suddenly encountered a traffic jam ahead.

Ashley rolled down her window and saw a black car parked sideways against the guardrail. Its front wheel was askew, and the front end had crashed into the rail.

It looked like the car that had sped past her.

As she watched, her eyes widened in shock.

Wait, that car was a Rolls-Royce, with the same license plate as Damian's.

Could it be Damian? Or Thomas?

As she hesitated, she saw a traffic officer stride over, and the next moment, a figure emerged from the deformed car door.

That tall, cold-spirited man was none other than Damian!
