Chapter 439 Measurements Memorized Backwards
"Mr. Long's legs can walk again?"
"Yeah, just like before, striding with confidence, acting like he owns the place!"
It seems so. With the top-notch doctors he hired, they surely have ways to shorten the recovery time.
Ashley, following Linda's instructions, had stopped meddling in that case, thinking it was long over. Hearing about it again today, she couldn't help but ask, "The Quantum Innovations Tech case, did they mention any key points?"
"I didn't hear much before I got caught and scolded. Judging by Mr. Long's expression, it doesn't seem like good news."
Ashley, without a license now, couldn't get too involved. She could only call Harold later to ask, "Don't worry about it for now, or you'll get scolded again."
"Got it! Ashley, where are you? No cases now, I am not busy. Want to go out for dinner tonight? A friend's restaurant is opening, let's go support them!"
"Tonight might not work, I'll contact you another day."
Hannah, feeling a bit down, said, "Alright, but you should use your free time to date someone."
"Do you have to manage whether I date or not?"
Putting down the phone, Ashley looked up and almost got scared to death.
Damian was leaning against the stair railing with one hand in his pocket, looking dashing. The towering bookshelf behind him made the whole scene look particularly solemn.
Ashley clutched her chest and sighed, "Can't you make some noise?"
Damian didn't come down but instead opened his phone and answered a call on speaker, "Mr. Hearst? Are you still listening?"
Damian looked at Ashley, "Listening."
It was Thomas's voice on the other end, and Ashley couldn't help but perk up her ears.
What was this guy up to? Leaving a meeting halfway to let her listen to a call?
"Mr. Hearst, after a thorough investigation, the technical assessment team has given their final answer. All products from Quantum Innovations Tech meet the quality inspection standards."
Ashley stood there, feeling a bit awkward.
After all this time, he was still working on that.
And if what Thomas said was true, wouldn't that mean Infinity Enterprises Group was falsely accusing Quantum Innovations Tech?
Damian's gaze remained on Ashley, "Okay."
Thomas continued, "There's something strange. I secretly investigated, and the main person responsible for the Infinity Enterprises Group incident, Linda, resigned a few days ago, citing abuse of power. The real reason was being ostracized. The whole thing was manipulated behind the scenes to push Linda out, including the three leukemia patients. It can now be confirmed that their illness has nothing to do with Quantum Innovations Tech."
Ashley looked at Damian standing above, his gaze calm as if he had known the whole story all along.
Ashley felt quite ashamed, realizing it wasn't KM's fault after all.
Damian remained emotionless, calmly saying, "Okay."
"So, should we continue the compensation for the patients?"
"Continue."
"Still from your personal account?"
Ashley's pupils dilated, staring at him in disbelief.
The compensation for the patients from KM wasn't from KM's charity fund but from Damian's personal expenses.
So, he was bearing the responsibility that wasn't his to bear.
Damian looked down at her, enjoying her changing expressions and evasive eyes. After a moment, he replied, "Yes, from my personal account."
"Understood, Mr. Hearst. Also, the legal department plans to sue Infinity Enterprises Group. Do you agree?"
Ashley pressed her lips together, not speaking.
From a business standpoint, Damian suing Infinity Enterprises Group was understandable. Besides, she was no longer a lawyer, with no conflict of interest on either side.
"Do what needs to be done."
"Yes, I'll notify the legal department right away."
"After work, go to Emperial Avenue Group and talk to Edward. He probably wants to have a drink with you."
Ashley didn't understand this cryptic message, but Thomas did. Damian was preparing to play hardball, "Got it! I understand!"
Today, news about Trinity just broke out. Emperial Avenue Group was already overwhelmed with the aftermath. If they pressured Edward now, he might end up in the emergency room.
The call ended, and the hall fell silent.
Damian looked at her leisurely.
Ashley pressed her lips together and spoke, "Sorry, I misunderstood you before."
"Is that all the sincerity you have for an apology? Do you think it's enough?"
Ashley blurted out, "What do you want?"
Damian glanced at his watch, "I have about two hours. Be ready to go out with me later."
Having just been proven wrong, Ashley couldn't refuse, "Okay."
Damian turned to go upstairs, then looked back after a few steps, "The coffee was good."
Ashley was stunned.
Damian drove, speeding through the sunset.
Ashley couldn't figure out his intentions, "Where are we going?"
"To buy clothes."
Thinking about what he said during the meeting, Ashley's face felt a bit hot, "I have clothes at home. You can take me back to get them."
Damian said, "Your old clothes aren't suitable. I'll help you pick."
Soon, the car stopped outside a private custom clothing store.
Ashley remembered this place, specializing in custom clothes for the wealthy, all handmade foreign designs, mostly limited edition high-end custom pieces. You wouldn't run into someone wearing the same outfit anywhere.
"Mr. Hearst, you seem to overestimate me. With my current salary, I can't even afford a scarf here."
A few years ago, she bought a scarf here as a gift for her mom, priced at $120,000. Other items were even more expensive, often costing $500,000 to $600,000, or even over a million dollars. Damian's suit alone took nearly a year for the designer to make, starting at $5 million. If he accidentally burned a small hole while smoking, it would be like burning a BMW.
"Did I ask you to pay? Why are you so nervous?"
Ashley felt uneasy.
Thinking about Damian's past behavior, not willing to spend a penny at the supermarket or IKEA, almost maxing out her card buying slippers last time, how could she feel comfortable spending here?
She might end up working as a maid to pay off the debt.
Damian took her hand and led her up the steps, "Come in."
The manager, though not recognizing Damian, recognized his clothes. This outfit was exclusive to their VVIPs. He quickly stepped forward and greeted, "Sir, how can I assist you?"
The staff, though used to seeing top-tier celebrities and business tycoons, were still captivated by this perfectly matched couple, secretly glancing at them.
Several female staff members' eyes were almost glued to Damian.
Oh my, after working here for so long, finally saw a top-tier couple. Watching middle-aged men buy clothes for young girls every day was really unpleasant.
Damian looked up at the second floor, "Ladies' dresses."
The manager nodded slightly, "Would you like formal dresses or casual wear?"
"Casual."
"Alright, this way, please, to the third floor."
Damian held Ashley's hand and took the VIP elevator. Ashley kept her head down, leaning against Damian, afraid of being recognized.
This kind of store had very high standards for their staff. They had to remember every customer who visited, and next time, they could call them by name and even remember their measurements.
On the third floor, a dedicated staff member greeted them with a trained smile, "Hello, how can I assist you two?"
Damian glanced at the ladies' dresses and raised an eyebrow, "Everyone out."
