Chapter 533 Did What All Women Would Do
"Ashley..."
Just as Ashley was about to hang up, Chad called out to her.
"Mr. Wilson, do you have anything else to say?"
Chad smiled, sounding in a good mood, "You're quite smart. I'm very interested in you. For such a small matter as the Astor Group's financing, you could have just told me. Why go through the trouble of finding someone else?"
Ashley felt a wave of nausea. If she had truly asked Chad for help, even if she received the money and witnessed the new company grow, she would feel so disgusted that she might throw up.
Ashley said, "Money is a good thing, but if it falls in the toilet, I won't pick it up."
Instead of getting angry at her cold sarcasm, Chad laughed heartily and didn't stop for a long time. "You remind me of a saying. Ok, Ashley, I like a challenge. Things that were uncertain before suddenly have direction."
Then, the call was cut off.
Ashley rolled her eyes and put down her phone.
Across the ocean in Evercrest City, Chad leaned back in his chair, humming a tune enthusiastically.
April came in with a stern face and said, "You still have the mood to sing? Look at this!"
Chad took the iPad, and a vicious look appeared on his previously cheerful face. "Damian moves pretty fast!"
A few minutes ago, the media exposed a business scandal involving Volcano, revealing their forced acquisition of a tech company three years ago. The owner of that company lost an arm, yes, because he refused to sell, and Chad had someone deal with him.
He remembered the terrified man who left Evercrest City with his family and went to Arcturus. Damian was quite capable to have found him.
April said seriously, "He insists that he was threatened and forced to sell the company. Now the media is attacking Volcano. Although it's not a fatal issue, it will definitely shake the company's image if this continues. I warned you, dealing with KM and the Hearst family shouldn't come at the expense of the company's interests."
Chad nonchalantly turned off the screen. "Did the driver who hit him finish the job?"
April snorted coldly, "Do you need to remind me?"
Chad stood up satisfied and ruffled April's wavy hair. "You're really my good sister. We share the same blood, so we cooperate better than others."
"Stop the nonsense. How do we handle this?"
"Easy, make him change his story and blame KM."
April's eyes twitched. "Damn it, we don't even know where he is! How can we make him change his story?"
Chad ruffled her hair again. "Since it's confirmed to be Damian, isn't it easy? A small, insignificant person, a first love, he will make the right choice."
April suddenly realized. How could she forget such an important leverage? "Selene is really unlucky, falling in love with the wrong person!"
"God likes to play tricks on people. We're just playing along." Chad's lips curled up in disdain.
Speaking of bad luck, who isn't unlucky?
Having a father like Bryan forced them into their current situation!
So, no one should blame anyone, and no one should hate anyone.
Ashley couldn't reach Damian and parked her car by the river, quietly enjoying the sea breeze.
She hated Damian, really hated him.
But when she couldn't reach him at a critical moment, she felt extremely uncomfortable.
Was it a sense of dependence?
Not really, because she had nothing to depend on him for.
Even if the Newlife Group didn't go public, even if she left that villa, she could still survive. Martin probably wouldn't be coerced by Damian into not treating Natalia.
But why did she feel so unhappy?
The phone rang again, and Ashley picked it up. "Who is it?"
Not saving numbers was quite annoying; she never knew who was calling.
"Ms. Astor, it's me, Jessica."
Ashley frowned in confusion. "How did you get my number?"
She hadn't told many people her new number. How did everyone know?
"Mr. Hearst had it saved in his phone." Jessica explained simply.
Ashley caught the underlying meaning. Was she implying something? That she could freely browse Damian's contacts? That their relationship was very close, and this call represented their joint stance?
"Jessica, is there something you need?"
"Did you call Mr. Hearst? Is it urgent?"
So they were close enough for the girlfriend to return missed calls. "Even if it's urgent, it's between Mr. Hearst and me, and has nothing to do with Jessica."
Jessica laughed gently and gracefully. "Mr. Hearst is not available to take calls. If it's not particularly urgent, I can relay the message."
"Are you and Mr. Hearst lovers?" Ashley suddenly asked.
Jessica seemed a bit embarrassed and laughed. "Mr. Hearst's parents and grandfather have accepted me as Mr. Hearst's wife. Does that answer satisfy you?"
Satisfied? What did she have to be satisfied or dissatisfied about?
She just found it ironic, bitterly ironic.
Damian was a master at playing with emotions, nothing more.
"Gossiping a bit, maybe I can sell it to the media later." Ashley mocked coldly.
Jessica said, "Mr. Hearst doesn't like to explain things, nor does he like to talk about his private life to the media. I hope Ms. Astor can keep it confidential. Also, since you know my relationship with Mr. Hearst, please be mindful in the future. If any bad news breaks out, it's always the woman who suffers."
Was she kindly reminding her to stay away from Damian?
How ridiculous, did she want to be close to him?
Ashley retorted unhappily, "Where is Damian? Does he have to send you to speak for him? How cowardly."
"Ms. Astor, there's no need to be so harsh."
"He's the one acting disgracefully."
There was nothing more to say, and Ashley hung up first.
The wind blew on her face, taking away the warmth, leaving her feeling completely cold.
She closed the car window, started the engine, and after the temperature warmed up, Ashley dialed a number.
"Can you guess who I am?"
Hendrix's surprised voice came from the other end. "You still remember me?"
"Want to have a drink?"
Linda had reminded her not to hurt Hendrix. Since the timing was right, she would remind him kindly once more today and get drunk. She wasn't a heavy drinker, couldn't handle much, but drinking was more about the atmosphere, not about chugging like a tank.
"Drink! Of course!"
"Blue Star."
"Alright!"
Jessica's heart was pounding, and she could barely stand.
After making the call, her palms were sweaty.
Even now, she couldn't believe she had done such a thing.
Today, Anthony suddenly fell seriously ill, and the doctor was upstairs trying to save him. Damian had also rushed over.
Victor and the others were all upstairs, worried that today might be Anthony's last day.
When Damian went up, his coat was hung on the rack by a servant. Not long after, she heard a text message notification.
She was the only one in the living room. At that moment, she felt like she had grabbed the olive branch of fate and shakily took out Damian's phone.
While taking care of Damian, she had once accidentally seen him unlock his phone with a password and remembered it deeply.
But she never had the chance to touch his phone, nor did she dare!
But now, she desperately needed to grasp something useful, to gain some control.
With trembling hands, she was shaking all over, as if she were holding Damian's heart, not an electronic device.
After a while, she finally entered the password. She didn't dare waste time and quickly searched the call records.
Then she saw the very glaring and infuriating name "Ashley."
No last name, just the first name!
Just the first name!
With shaking hands, she saved the number to her phone.
Then she put Damian's phone back in his coat pocket and hurriedly walked to the yard.
After making that call, Jessica felt like her blood was flowing backward, and her hands and feet were cold.
For the first time, this was the first time she had done something bad.
She didn't do it on purpose. She just wanted to keep Damian. She loved this man. Who told Ashley to come and take him away!
She was forced. She was just doing what any woman would do, defending her love with all her might!
