Chapter 552 Damian, like a lion king defending his territory
Sean remained silent, and the two of them waited together for Ashley's response.
This question was a bit difficult for Ashley. If Sean weren't present, she would definitely teach Natalia that although Sean was very kind and close, he wasn't family, so his generosity shouldn't be taken for granted.
But with him there, she couldn't say that.
"Sean is a very good friend of mine. I'll talk to him and ask him not to spend too much. After all, Natalia already has a lot of clothes and toys, and buying more would be wasteful."
This was also a hint to Sean.
He would probably understand.
Natalia nodded, understanding that she shouldn't take things from others or ask for them. "I understand, Auntie. I've had dinner at Uncle's place. Can I go to my room now?"
"Good girl, Natalia, go play by yourself."
With no third person involved, the living room fell silent again.
Ashley lost her appetite and put down her fork. "I'm sorry, Sean. I just don't want Natalia to develop a habit of taking advantage of others. You have a daughter, so you should understand my concerns."
If a girl grows up enjoying being pampered and happy with small favors, she might easily encounter bad men and lack proper upbringing when she grows up.
Sean nodded and smiled knowingly. "I understand what you mean. You don't need to explain so much to me. I respect your wishes."
Ashley felt quite guilty. "Because of Natalia's illness, Damian and I still have to be entangled."
Sean saw that she wasn't eating anymore, so he put her down and gave her a cushion. "Why are you telling me this? Are you afraid I'll misunderstand? Or don't want me to be sad?"
"You know, Sean, you're really a good person, so good that I can't bear to hurt you."
Sean cleaned up the dishes and neatly arranged them. "If someone has to get hurt, if it's unavoidable, I can be that person. I don't mind."
Ashley's tears were almost triggered by his words, her eyes heating up, almost crying.
God, please prepare the best woman in the world for Sean, okay? She really didn't want to hurt him.
After dinner, Sean talked to her about the case and what to say tomorrow.
Before leaving, he specifically found the heater switch and adjusted the temperature. "It should be suitable now. I'll go back first. See you tomorrow."
Ashley coughed. "Okay, see you tomorrow."
Sean was really a good person. As a husband and father, he was an excellent choice.
If she ever considered marriage again in this life, it might be him.
Ashley calmed down for a while, then picked up her phone and dialed.
The other side answered quickly, in no more than three seconds.
She couldn't help but wonder if Damian's phone was just attached to his hand.
"What's up?"
A low voice, the night was hazy, particularly charming.
Ashley cleared her throat and said stiffly, "Who changed Natalia's clothes?"
"Clothes? Natalia got a bit hot while playing today and sweated a lot on her back. I was afraid she'd catch a cold."
Ashley's voice instantly grew louder. "You changed her clothes?"
"What's wrong?"
Ashley was so angry that she wanted to pull Damian out of the phone and scold him. "Damian, don't you understand the difference between men and women? Natalia is a little girl, and you're a man. How could you change her clothes? How could you do that?!"
Damian wasn't Natalia's biological father, so what he did was simply shameless.
Damian, on the other end, was a bit frustrated by the scolding. "Ashley, Natalia is only five years old. Do you really have to be so particular?"
Besides, he was Natalia's biological father. What's wrong with helping his daughter change clothes?
Ashley gritted her teeth. "I said no, so no. Girls need to have the right concept of gender from a young age. That way, they won't be taken advantage of by perverts when they grow up! I don't expect you to have much character, but please have some respect for Natalia."
Damian's tone was no longer as compliant as before, arguing reasonably. "Ashley, why won't you admit it? What are you afraid of?"
"Admit what? I have nothing to admit to you. Don't overthink it."
With that, she hung up the phone.
Frustrated?
Frustrated to death!
On the other end, Damian, who had been hung up on, was extremely annoyed.
Why was Ashley so temperamental?
He should be the one getting angry and upset.
Thomas had told him that Sean was holding Ashley while having dinner.
Holding her!
Holding her!
What exactly did Ashley want? Did she want a second marriage?
Damian couldn't bear it anymore and picked up the phone again.
Before long, he heard Sean's voice.
"Sean, it's me."
"Mr. Hearst? What can I do for you?"
Damian's long fingers gripped the phone, like a lion king defending his territory. "What's going on between you and Ashley?"
Sean was driving, and the signal switched to the car's Bluetooth mode. "Is Mr. Hearst questioning me? In what capacity?"
Damian sneered. "You took her away from under my nose back then, and for two years, you did everything you could to please her. How does she feel about you?"
Sean responded calmly. "When you like someone, you don't care about these things."
Damian was overwhelmed by jealousy, his rationality was pushed to the brink. He couldn't bear to think of Ashley being close to another man. He couldn't even think about it; it made him furious enough to want to kill. "You'd better have the ability to maintain this attitude, or I'll show you the consequences of coveting something that doesn't belong to you."
Sean said, "Mr. Hearst, truly loving someone isn't about forcibly possessing them but fulfilling their wishes. If she still loves you, you will naturally reconcile. If she doesn't love you, even if you kill me, it will only increase her hatred for you."
"It's not your place to teach me how to love her."
"I just hope she doesn't get hurt anymore. She's been through enough and had a hard time."
Damian's eyes reddened, blood vessels weaving a layer over his retinas. He sneered, self-mockingly. "I'll take responsibility for her future."
After putting down the phone, Damian still couldn't dispel the anger in his heart.
Ashley, you fool, couldn't you be more patient? Couldn't you give us both a little more time?
In the end, Damian didn't believe Ashley would fall in love with someone else.
He didn't believe such deep love could just disappear.
Ashley wouldn't fall for someone else, no way!
But, looking down at his own legs, Damian's confidence wavered slightly.
If he could never stand up again, could he still give Ashley happiness?
Could he selfishly keep her by his side, spending the rest of her life with a cripple?
The next afternoon.
Sean came to pick up Ashley as promised.
Ashley struggled to get up, changed her clothes, and put on light makeup.
Sophie and Natalia exchanged glances and said in unison, "So beautiful!"
Ashley smiled. "I could live off my looks, right?"
Sophie sincerely praised, "Ms. Astor and Mr. Ross are such a perfect match, a talented man and a beautiful woman, even better than TV stars."
