Chapter 463 Selene, what exactly happened?
The moonlight was so beautiful, and Damian was so handsome.
The scent of alcohol lingered on his lips as he breathed. While others reeked of alcohol after drinking, he surprisingly smelled pleasant.
Ashley looked up at him. "You mean there will be many more dinners like this in the future?"
Damian's gaze was intense. His rugged features seemed unable to handle the gentleness in her eyes. She hadn't had a drop of alcohol, so why did her eyes have a hint of intoxication?
"It's good for your career development. Besides," he paused, "without layers of protection, even if you get your law license back, how long can you keep it?"
Ashley smiled, "Isn't that what you're here for?"
After saying that, she froze for a moment.
Clearly, Damian's expression also stiffened slightly, but he adjusted quickly, so quickly it was almost unnoticeable. His thin lips curled up, "That's right, I'm here."
Ashley's heart suddenly raced, beating much faster than before.
Was she falling in love again?
What happened to the bold declarations she made in the office during the day?
"I mean, with your help, no one would dare to nitpick."
Damian frowned and said calmly, "Right."
"By the way, about Victor..."
"Are you sure you want to talk about him here?"
What?
Her hand was enveloped by a large hand, Damian's warmth spreading through her palm, magnifying infinitely until it reached every inch of her skin.
And she didn't resist.
Sensing her reluctance, Damian said, "Hold on to me, I'm dizzy from the alcohol."
Arm in arm, they walked under the clear moonlit sky, the distant mountains faintly visible, picturesque and beautiful.
On the way back to the city, the driver drove while they sat in the back.
He sat quietly, his head resting against the seat, probably a bit tired. When the car went over a speed bump, his head leaned towards her.
Ashley quickly supported him with both hands. Seeing him resting with his eyes closed, she didn't have the heart to wake him. She let him lean on her, using her frail shoulder to support him, worried that her bony shoulder might be uncomfortable for him, so she used her hand as a cushion. Soon, her hand went numb.
The driver saw them through the rearview mirror and smiled secretly.
It seemed like the relationship between Damian and Ashley had changed.
The next day, at the Hearst family villa.
Nicole glanced at her husband who was about to leave and said calmly, "I'm planning to arrange a blind date for Damian tomorrow."
Bryan stopped at the entrance, "You know his temperament. He might not be willing to go on a blind date."
"If we tell him directly, of course, he'll resist. So I have a plan. This time, I'll arrange a chance encounter. The company has a flower garden in the suburbs, right? I'll ask Damian to pick some potted plants to decorate the yard. They will naturally meet there."
Bryan had been concerned about their son's marriage and shared his wife's desire for him to find a partner quickly. However, his wife's tone today was clearly filled with anger. "Have you met Ashley?"
Besides Ashley, he couldn't think of anyone else who could make his wife so angry.
Nicole recalled Ashley's shameless words from yesterday and got angry. "Yes, I met her yesterday. Ashley actually said she loves Damian and wants to be with him even without a title! She's completely different from before, hard to control. So I need to speed up finding a good match for our son."
Bryan's face darkened, his tone very firm, "Damian brought her to the company. It's been about ten days."
Nicole angrily pounded the sofa armrest, "That's why I'm worried! He's acting on his own without any notice. If his grandfather finds out, won't it be a big problem? I can't watch him lose favor. I absolutely can't let Victor take advantage."
On this matter, Bryan and his wife were completely aligned. "You handle the details, I'll take care of the big picture."
"Okay."
The couple had been fighting openly and secretly for half their lives. Now, for the sake of their son taking over KM, they had made peace.
However, there was still a thorn in Nicole's heart. She said coldly, "Those women you had before, didn't any of them give you a son or daughter? If they did, you better deal with it quickly. Don't let them come back later to fight with our son."
Bryan's facial muscles tightened, a fierce anger rising, "Don't bring this up again!"
With that, he turned and left!
Nicole grabbed a pillow and threw it on the ground, shaking with anger.
KM, President's Office.
Damian was very busy. From the moment he arrived at the company, he had been in meetings. After the meeting, he drank coffee while reviewing documents. Before lunch, he had another video conference.
He had already had four cups of coffee.
With so much caffeine, no wonder he couldn't sleep.
Ashley took away the half-finished coffee and placed a plate of cut fruit in front of him, reminding him, "I think your insomnia might be related to drinking too much coffee. Have some fruit. Try to avoid caffeine and strong tea in the afternoon."
Damian looked at the fruit plate, which had apples, mangoes, and peeled pomelo, all very colorful.
"I don't have the habit of eating fruit in the office, especially while working."
Ashley said, "Are you worried the department managers will see? Just put it away when someone comes in."
"Even if it's put away, there's still a smell."
"The office is so big and well-ventilated. How strong can the smell be? If you're embarrassed, I'll leave it outside and say it's mine."
She wasn't sure if she saw it right, but Damian's lips curved into a beautiful smile, "Okay."
Ashley felt a sudden sweetness in her heart, as if her heart had tasted a juicy peach.
Damian's phone suddenly rang.
She tactfully stepped aside.
The caller ID showed Thomas. Damian glanced at Ashley, who had moved to the reception area, and lowered his voice to answer, "Speak."
"It's me."
The distant voice seemed to cross time and space, pouring the past over him.
Years of complex emotions, guilt, and helplessness all materialized, like an immovable mountain rising from the ground, pressing on his heart.
Damian clenched his fist, his brows furrowed tightly. Then, he quickly stood up, walked into the suite, and closed the door.
A series of actions, very fast.
Ashley watched his actions, puzzled, staring at the suite door.
She rarely saw Damian so agitated, so out of control.
Looking out the window, Damian controlled his emotions, "Awake?"
It felt like talking to someone who had come back from the dead, crossing the boundary of life and death.
Seeing her photo, hearing reports that she was alive, was nothing compared to hearing her voice.
"Yes, he said he's your assistant, secretly staying with me for ten days."
"Yes, you can trust him completely."
"Then let him go back. I don't need him here."
Damian's hand tensed, emotions seeping through his fingers, but his voice remained calm, "What about you? Are you coming back?"
"Just consider me dead. That's what I tell myself."
"You’re not dead. How can I consider you dead? Selene, what happened?"
