Chapter 352 Which Woman Can Handle This?

Ashley wanted to retort, but the phone rang.

She gave a mysterious smile, raised her phone, and said, "Got a call."

Walking out of the law firm's glass doors, Ashley quickly pressed the elevator button, "Are you here?"

"Yes, waiting for you."

The elevator was still on the lower floor, and it would take five minutes to walk from the building. Ashley wasn't sure if Damian would get impatient, "I'll be quick, just wait a bit."

Before Damian could respond, a voice suddenly jumped out from behind her. "Is it the guy who sends you red roses? He's been sending flowers for so many days. When will he reveal his mysterious identity?"

After Riley shouted, Lynn followed loudly, "Yeah, it's been so long, and we haven't seen Ms. Astor being picked up. Doesn't Ms. Astor have a lot of admirers? Aren't you afraid someone will steal her away?"

Ashley abruptly hung up the phone, but Damian had already heard those voices.

A guy sending red roses?

A lot of admirers?

Damian heard two women's voices from Ashley's phone, and they were talking about the same thing.

That is, a man had been sending Ashley roses for a long time, but they hadn't seen who he was.

A light snort escaped from Damian's nose, and soon his expression turned cold.

No longer could one see any trace of the lightheartedness he had when coming to pick up Ashley.

Thomas didn't need to look back to feel the sudden drop in the car's pressure, as if half the air had been sucked out, making it hard to breathe.

Damian calling Ashley should have put him in a good mood, right? Why was he angry instead?

Thomas dared to ask, "Mr. Hearst, isn’t Ms. Astor happy to see her brother today?"

"She is happy."

There was a faint chill in his tone.

Thomas was puzzled, had he said something wrong?

Ashley being happy should make Damian happy too, wasn't that the usual rule lately?

After a while, Thomas felt even colder on his back. Was Damian too eager to see Ashley, not wanting to wait even a second, and thus in a bad mood?

Thomas once again summoned his courage, "Mr. Hearst, it will take Ms. Astor at least five or six minutes to get here, even if she hurries. She's wearing high heels, which makes walking difficult and unsafe if she rushes..."

Damian interrupted him, "So much talk, do you want to carry her?"

Thomas dared not say another word, wishing he had some tape to seal his mouth and show his determination.

Ashley took the largest strides she could, still taking four minutes. Recognizing Damian's car, she quickly glanced around and then went to pull the passenger door.

A voice came from behind, as cold as snow, "Come here."

Ashley used to say that Damian sounded like he was training a dog when he said that, and she hadn't heard it in a long time. Today, she was reminded that Damian had never changed.

Bending down to sit in the back seat, Ashley immediately felt the strange atmosphere. She wanted to ask Thomas what was wrong, but the timing wasn't right, "Sorry to keep you waiting."

She needed a favor today, so she lowered her attitude and didn't dare confront Damian. If he were in a bad mood, she would endure it.

The car started, as steady as if on flat ground.

After driving for 5 miles, still no one spoke.

Damian's handsome profile emitted dangerous signals. If the silence wasn't broken soon, he might randomly grab someone and throw them out to vent his anger.

Ashley understood that his mood was probably related to that phone call.

"You heard it?"

Damian snorted, "Want to show off?"

Ashley really wanted to go back and tear Riley and Lynn's mouths apart!

"That was a misunderstanding."

Damian remained indifferent, "What does red roses mean, and how can it be a misunderstanding?"

So he did hear it.

Ashley explained, "The Roses was a play I directed myself. Too many people were arranging blind dates for me, and I inevitably encountered male clients. I didn't want them to have any other ideas, so I ordered flowers for myself online, twice a week. It's quite popular now; many single women do it."

After she finished, Damian's cold expression finally showed some fluctuation, "Quite an excuse."

But the fact that she was willing to make an excuse, willing to explain, showed that she cared about him at least a little.

Thinking that her explanation might also be because she had to see his face tonight, Damian's mood dropped again.

"So, according to you, all the men you interact with have ideas about you? You have that many admirers?"

Ashley was really about to explode. Damian was so petty, "I was just being cautious. In our profession, no matter how hard female lawyers work, there are always people gossiping behind their backs, especially if they're single. Avoiding suspicion is a form of self-protection."

And she had to admit, it worked quite well, except for Hendrix.

Hendrix was cautious at first, but later, for some reason, he completely ignored her explanation and treated her as a single person.

Damian closed his eyes to digest his anger, "You could use a simpler method."

"What?"

"Your colleagues mentioned it."

Ashley was puzzled. What good method could Lynn and Riley have? They were eager to see her embarrassed.

Did Damian mean letting them see him and naturally assume he was the one sending flowers?

Ashley held her forehead.

If Damian knew those flowers were from Sean, would he blow up the whole building?

Besides, she didn't want that kind of method!

Ashley compromised, "If there's a better way, I'll consider it."

Thomas kept his mouth shut and drove the car smoothly to Shadowcrest Castle.

Damian got out of the car, just in time to see the sunset slowly sinking behind the western hills, its golden rays dyeing half the mountain red.

Today's sunset was very similar to the day Shadowcrest Castle officially opened.

Ashley, however, had no mood to enjoy the scenery, "Mr. Hearst, what time does Dorian's flight arrive?"

Damian, with one hand in his pocket, facing west, said, "Why the rush? Do you think I'll send him back halfway?"

Ashley found Damian's temper hard to grasp. When he was happy, he spoke one way; when he was upset, another. It was very difficult to figure out, "I just wanted to confirm the time to prepare in advance."

"What do you need to prepare? Can you cook or clean?"

"I mean, the room he'll be staying in tonight. I want to check it first."

"Don't trust Shadowcrest Castle's guest services and want to do it yourself? I don't remember Ms. Astor studying hotel management."

His sarcastic tone was just like when she first returned to the country. It seemed all the time they had spent together recently was in vain.

The passive-aggressive attitude was really unbearable. Ashley couldn't take it anymore, "I haven't seen Dorian in months. Is it wrong to want a bit of ceremony? If you're still biased against me because of the flowers, just say it."

Thomas stood 10 feet away, drawing several crosses with his mind.

God, he suddenly didn't want Ashley and Damian to get back together.

Damian's low pressure, what woman could withstand it?

Damian turned to look at her, "Are you sure you want to argue with me now?"

His voice was low, his eyes filled with displeasure.

Ashley fell silent, biting the soft flesh inside her cheek, swallowing her temper, "I'm not arguing with you."

Her eyes were downcast, a strand of long hair slipping from her ear, floating in front of her. The sunset's glow reflected on her face, a small face not even the size of a palm.

Damian's heart suddenly softened, "Why not tell the truth?"
