Chapter 187 He Couldn't Shake off the Debt

A blood-red rose passed over the breakfast of the two, and was delivered to him, as if she voluntarily offered a token of goodwill.

Damian's lips twitched into a faint smile. He took the rose and placed it back, saying, "I see you're good at teasing them. Stay here for a few more days to recover before leaving. How are you going to travel in this condition? Lying in the back seat?"

Ashley stared in surprise.

She had only given him a rose, and Damian suddenly showed such kindness?

"I don't want to disturb you."

Damian glanced at the red rose. "As long as you don't hit me, we're fine."

With a full stomach, people tend to relax, and Ashley chuckled, "I never realized you had a humorous side before."

Damian's smile remained at the same angle, "Aside from noticing my charming face, you know nothing about me."

Ashley couldn't help but burst out laughing.

She didn't mean to, but Damian suddenly became so chatty that it caught her off guard. She quickly reached for a tissue to wipe her mouth, inadvertently pulling at her injury on the back, her hand clenched in pain.

Damian took out a few tissues and handed them to her, "Clumsy."

With just one word, Ashley's ears unexpectedly started to heat up. "Well, I'm full now. I'll head to the bedroom myself. If you're busy, go ahead."

""I've seen everything, even held you. What's one more time?" Ashley's ears grew even hotter, her whole face warming up. "That was an accident; don't take it seriously."

Damian remained silent as the phone rang.

Seeing the name, Damian set down his utensils and walked to the side.

Moments later, he hurriedly walked over. "Stay at the hotel. If you need anything, call room service. I need to go to Dreamvale."

"So urgent?"

Damian replied, "There's something I need to deal with."

Ashley had no chance to ask him what was going on. From the moment he received the call to leaving the room, his hands never stopped. He packed things while making phone calls, all in English, speaking quickly and steadily, as if discussing something related to a construction site.

Wasn't the construction just starting? Was there a sudden issue?

Ashley thought about asking Curtis, but she couldn't possibly ask Trinity, could she?

She messaged Curtis on WhatsApp, but five minutes later, there was still no reply.

If Damian went back to Dreamvale, Curtis probably went with him, both likely dealing with a tricky issue.

Staying in the room Damian had arranged, Ashley found it hard to contain her worries about this man, both mentally and physically.

If there weren't so many of his personal belongings around her, if the air wasn't filled with his scent, she might have been able to watch indifferently.

Ashley sighed at herself. "Ashley, oh Ashley, you never change!"

Three hours later, Damian and Curtis returned to Dreamvale and headed straight to the construction site.

Trinity and several domestic management personnel were in a heated argument with a group of people.

"What's the situation?"

Damian strode into the dusty construction site, his black leather shoes stomping out a powerful rhythm. His cold aura instantly suppressed much of the surrounding noise.

Seeing him coming, Trinity's suspended heart finally found solace, her worry and fear significantly reduced. She hurried over, panting heavily, "When I called you, they were causing a big scene. There was a brief pause halfway through, and then another wave of people came looking for trouble! It's about compensation, saying our construction infringed on their freedom rights, affecting their quality of life. You know people in Eirondia value individualism. They're really difficult to deal with."

Curtis, as an Eirondian, felt ashamed hearing this. He stepped forward. "You guys stay back. Let me go talk to them. I'm Eirondian; they won't do anything to me, but they have reservations towards outsiders."

Trinity coldly remarked, "Their media has been stirring up trouble for years, spreading lies about our country, exaggerating conflicts to create discord. That's why they're so agitated, causing trouble for our business, it's just... frustrating!"

Damian nodded at Curtis, signaling him to go first, then noticed the dust and mud on Trinity, "Have you been on the construction site all this time?"

Trinity, sensing his gaze, helplessly spread her hands. "I had no choice. You went to visit M City, so I, as the deputy, had to step in. Unfortunately, I couldn't handle these people and had to trouble you to rush back."

Damian said, "Go back to the hotel. We'll take over from here."

Trinity's pupils suddenly dilated, pushing Damian away uncontrollably, shouting, "Watch out!"

The shrill scream and the sound of a blunt object hitting flesh sounded simultaneously.

In the next moment, Damian felt a weight in his arms. Trinity pushed him two steps away, becoming the target of a shovel, taking a heavy blow and falling heavily to the ground.

Damian's cold gaze pierced the man holding the shovel. He leaped, kicking the man in the stomach, who fell to the ground with a wail, the shovel clattering nearby.

Trinity's chest was covered in blood, quickly soaking through her white silk shirt. She wiped the warm liquid in front of her, her hands full of blood. "It hurts. Am I... am I going to die?"

"Hang on, I'll get you to the hospital. You'll be fine."

Damian bent down to lift her up, swiftly carrying her out of the construction site.

Trinity laid in his arms, her eyes growing heavier. She was almost unable to see his face clearly, but in his close chest was his strong and steady heartbeat, resonating with hers.

She weakly smiled. "Mr. Hearst, I suddenly feel like this life was worth it."

After saying that, she blacked out.

Damian looked down at her bloodied body, his brows furrowed coldly. "Trinity? Wake up!"

The woman in his arms didn't respond. She had lost consciousness from excessive bleeding, her face and lips gradually losing color.

Arriving at the nearest hospital, Damian watched as Trinity was wheeled into the emergency room. Standing calmly in the corridor, his face gradually turned icy.

During the wait, Damian contacted his subordinates in Eirondia, instructing them to settle the chaos at the construction site as quickly as possible. "Take the assailant to the police station. Wait for my instructions."

Curtis's efforts to calm the crowd had failed, but a group of people arrived and dispersed the crowd swiftly..

He didn't understand how the situation had unfolded, but in less than half an hour, the noisy crowd dispersed on their own without any compensation.

Was it because Trinity was injured? Did it scare these people away?

"Damian?" When Curtis arrived at Dreamvale Hospital, Trinity had already been transferred from the emergency room to the ICU. Through the glass, he could see her wearing an oxygen mask, with the machines displaying her vital signs.

The situation looked grim.

Curtis dared not meet Damian's gaze directly, always feeling like he might tear down Dreamvale Tower in the next second. "Is she seriously injured?"

Damian furrowed his brow harshly. "She's temporarily out of danger, but the doctor said her internal organs were impacted. She needs to be observed for 24 hours."

Curtis and Damian stood side by side, looking at the person inside. Curtis furrowed his brow and asked, "I heard she got hurt saving you. If she hadn't reacted quickly, it would be you lying in there."

What a chilling thought!

Damian gave him a cold, mocking look. "I didn't need her to shield me."

Feeling guilty under his gaze, Curtis awkwardly smiled. "The situation was urgent. The attacker had a sharp shovel."

Damian scoffed, "A shovel couldn't take my life, especially not from an untrained middle-aged man. Ridiculous."

At the moment Trinity rushed up, was it instinctive, a subconscious action, or was it to protect him even at the risk of her own life?

At this point, the question seemed meaningless.

Damian felt irritated.

He hated owing people, especially a debt incurred by Trinity's unnecessary actions.

But no matter what, the person lying inside was hurt saving him, he couldn't shake off this debt.

Curtis didn't know Damian's combat skills, but upon hearing this, he guessed that Damian must be skilled in boxing. So, he cautiously imitated Mike Tyson's boxing stance. "Do you know how to box?"

Not in the mood, Damian snapped, "Stay here. Let me know when she wakes up."

Curtis grabbed his arm. "Where are you going? I'm not her family. If the doctor comes and asks me, I won't know what to say."

Damian gave him an irritated look, shaking off his grip, "To find her family."
