Chapter 467 Here to Pick Up Your Ex-Husband!

Why did she take the initiative to contact her?

Ashley said, "Ms. Bergstrom, what's up?"

"You said you'd treat me to dinner last time, but I waited and waited and never got your invitation, so I had to come to you. How about today?"

When they parted at the couple's restaurant that day, Ashley did say that, but it was almost just a courtesy. She actually took it seriously. So today's dinner is probably about Hendrix, right?

Unbelievable, Hendrix's women all come to her for a "heart-to-heart talk." If she really had any feelings for Hendrix, it would be one thing, but she genuinely had no interest.

This inexplicable accusation was also unbelievable.

"Alright, you pick the place, I'll pay. Let's settle this now to avoid fighting over the bill later."

It was not for anything else; Ashley just didn't want to owe her.

Esme seemed to laugh lightly, "Alright."

Half an hour later, at a Japanese restaurant.

Seeing the restaurant's sign, Ashley almost bit her tongue. The last time she ate here with Hendrix, the bill could have bankrupted her. Can she really keep up the pretense today?

Before entering, Ashley quickly called Harold, "Harold, lend me some money, three... five thousand dollars!"

Anyway, she already owed Harold a lot of money, so she could just add to it and pay it back later.

But when could she pay it back? That was a big question.

Harold on the other end smirked, "Aren't you close with your ex-husband? Doesn't he give you any living expenses?"

"Can you stop talking nonsense and help me out?"

"Fine, I'll transfer it to you. We haven't talked in days, and the first thing you do is ask for money. This friendship is over."

"Don't say that. If our friendship ends, who will I borrow money from?"

If Esme heard that she had to borrow money to treat her to dinner, she would probably laugh to death.

Esme was punctual and entered the private room on time.

With her flowing hair styled by a hairdresser, exquisite makeup, a fitting Chanel suit, and nude high heels, she looked every bit the professional woman, without losing any of her feminine sweetness.

I have to say, Esme was quite beautiful.

"Am I late?"

Ashley said, "I came early. Since I'm treating you to dinner, I should arrive early."

Without any extra pleasantries, Esme ordered a set meal for two.

While waiting for the food, they each sipped tea, listening to the light music in the restaurant. The elegant private room had a faint floral scent, making it a perfect place for a proposal.

"You're a sensible person, and I don't like beating around the bush. Hendrix likes you, do you know that?"

Straight to the point.

It instantly brought the atmosphere back to reality.

Ashley nodded, "So?"

Esme looked directly at Ashley, maintaining her usual demeanor, and said in one breath without stuttering, "I don't believe for a second that your relationship with Damian is just a normal superior-subordinate one. Besides, judging by your attitude towards Damian, you seem to like him quite a bit, and he definitely doesn't see you as just a subordinate. Whether or not you've established a romantic relationship or plan to go public, in my eyes, you two are already a couple. So, you won't get entangled with Hendrix."

Ashley raised an eyebrow, naturally turning the teacup in her hand. The tea soothed her throat, washing away some of her annoyance, or maybe Esme's words pleased her a bit. "I don't know where you got the first part of your conclusion, but the last part is correct. I have no interest in Hendrix."

Esme's lips curled into a self-deprecating smile. Her bright eyes, enhanced by layers of eyeshadow, showed a hint of displeasure. "But he's been single-mindedly in love with you for many years, only you."

Ashley was a bit confused, "Ms. Bergstrom, are you sure you're not mistaken? Others might be, but Mr. Long? Have you looked into his romantic history?"

"I've seen plenty of flings and insincere relationships, but truly liking someone is different. Hendrix told me he was smitten with you at first sight. When he found out you were dating someone, he was heartbroken for a long time. He's been with many women, but never sincerely, just for fun."

Ashley didn't know how to respond. Hendrix had told her the same things.

She took it as an excuse for his womanizing.

Esme said, "Hendrix is a good man. I will persistently pursue him, even if he rejects me."

Ashley nodded, "I wish you success."

What else could she say?

Esme was a willful and self-centered person, spoiled and pampered since childhood. She got whatever she wanted. But this time, she humbled herself. "I invited you to dinner just to confirm one thing. In the future, will you ever like him? Is there any chance you'll fall in love with him?"

"Although the future is uncertain, I think it's unlikely."

Liking someone was just a moment of heart flutter. If it didn't happen at the beginning, it was hard to develop later.

"Then please, don't give him any expectations, don't give him hope, let him completely give up on you."

Ashley said, "There's nothing between us. We were once superior and subordinate. Now that I've left the law firm, he's not my boss, I don't take his orders, and we have no interactions. Rest assured, I don't like interfering in other people's relationships."

Esme raised her wine glass and filled it, "Thanks."

She drank it all in one go.

No other meaning, just suddenly realizing that Esme and Hendrix might be quite suitable for each other.

At least better than that petty and scheming Lynn.

"Sorry, I can't drink much," Ashley raised her wine glass and took a sip, "I won't go back on my word."

"No problem, let's eat!"

Ashley was really impressed by Esme, "I thought you'd leave after drinking."

Esme picked up a fork, "Why? The food here is delicious, and you're treating. You're someone Hendrix likes. Having dinner with you, I can learn something, see what he likes about you."

Could Ashley say she's speechless?

This logic was too excellent!

Esme really meant what she said. Throughout the meal, she kept asking about Ashley's interests, hobbies, and leisure activities, even saying she would watch all the movies Ashley liked.

Ashley rubbed her forehead, "Why don't you study law? Maybe Hendrix likes lawyers."

After all, Lynn was also a lawyer.

Esme was stunned for a moment, "Going back to school is not an option, but I'll buy books to read."

Alright then.

Damian's house was great in every way, except it was too big.

Standing alone inside, it feels like being in a vast wilderness, small and insignificant, with no warmth, let alone a homely atmosphere.

I really didn't know how he felt living here alone.

But that cold and independent Damian probably didn't understand what loneliness was.

He hadn't come back yet. Maybe Anthony really hit him in a fit of anger.

Would he dodge? Or silently endure it?

The phone rang, and Ashley picked it up.

Evelina?

Evelina's voice sounded anxious, with a noisy background, "Ashley, where are you?"

"At home, what's wrong?"

"Come quickly to pick up Damian, your ex-husband!"
