Chapter 346 Fine, Manage Women

"A girl said that Faye was in a bad mood those days and even cried to her once but didn't say why," Bryan said.

Damian remembered Faye as always optimistic and cheerful. She rarely frowned, let alone cried. The only time he heard about her crying was from Ashley.

The reason was a failed crush.

Could it be that she cried to her female classmates about that?

Damian said, "Girls are sensitive, and it's understandable for them to have emotional outbursts and cry occasionally. However, these can't be used as evidence in an investigation."

During the initial period after the incident, Bryan had already conducted a prolonged and thorough search. He didn't give up on any information that had even the slightest connection to Faye's death.

After more than a year of continuous investigation, it all came to nothing.

Upon revisiting the old case, the evidence largely matched the original findings. The only difference was that as time passed, Faye's friends calmed down and slowly recalled many things.

Uncovering the truth about Faye, Bryan pieced together stories from different people, finding a sense of comfort in learning about her life.

"Why did Faye cry? She was an optimistic child, carefree since she was young, and never took things to heart. Why did she suddenly cry like that?" Bryan focused on his daughter's unusual behavior, believing it was a clue to something big.

Damian said, "Many thoughts, girls won't tell their elders, nor would they tell me as her brother. They can only share with other girls. Dad, don't overthink it."

Hearing Damian's dismissive attitude, Bryan was infuriated, "What do you mean? You're not personally involved and still say such things. She's your sister!"

Damian's face darkened, "I feel the same pain about Faye's death as you do. I also want to find out the truth, but we've tried everything over the past three years. It was an accident."

Bryan angrily said, "Have you forgotten who you are? Is it because of Ashley? Whenever you're involved with that woman, you act like this."

Damian stood up, ready for a confrontation, "Dad, you have as much power as I do. You can mobilize anyone to continue the investigation."

With that, he strode towards the door, turning the doorknob with a click.

Bryan placed the photo on the table and sternly said, "Stop right there!"

Damian didn't move or turn back.

Bryan's tone softened a bit, "Your mother is not in good health. Over the years, because of Faye's unclear departure, she has developed a heart condition. The only way to cure her is to find out the cause of Faye's death and, preferably, recover her remains for a proper burial. How can a child of the Hearst family not have their body found?"

Damian looked at the door, a faint cold smile on his face, "Mom's heart condition over the years isn't just because of Faye. If you want to ease her mind, you should cut off all those complicated relationships outside so that a bunch of people won't come into the house demanding a share of your assets in the future."

Bryan didn't show a trace of anger at being called out by Damian. Instead, he calmly and coldly said, "Those people pose no threat to you. You will always be my only son and my only legitimate heir."

"Only?" Damian sneered, "That's just your wishful thinking."

Bryan's voice gradually rose again, reprimanding, "You've done a lot outside over the years. I know you've been building your network privately. But you're my son. I can see through your intentions at a glance. Even if you cause a huge mess, I won't care. But remember, when it comes to marriage, you don't have the final say."

Bryan walked over and patted Damian's shoulder, emphasizing each word, "This is the price of being a descendant of the Hearst family."

Bearing his father's heavy pat, Damian felt as if a century-old burden was placed on his shoulder, but he remained expressionless. "Do you think I care?"

Bryan squinted his eyes, wanting to say more, but the words that came out were, "Quantum Innovations Tech and Infinity Enterprises Group are going to court?"

It was not a question but an accusation.

Damian coldly replied, "That's right."

"Quantum Innovations Tech is KM's new integrated smart office equipment industry, and it's a crucial part of KM's entry into the high-tech industry. Your grandfather values this branch highly and personally advised Quantum Innovations Tech, securing over $50 billion in domestic and international orders," Bryan said.

"So?" Damian said.

"You understand what I mean. Quantum Innovations Tech is only allowed to win, not lose. Otherwise, you and it will both be out of KM. Don't think that just because your grandfather values you now, he will always trust you. A person is valued because they are useful. If Quantum Innovations Tech fails, how much weight do you think you will still carry?" Bryan said.

Damian didn't believe his father's threats could shake his position, but he had to agree on one point: the future of Quantum Innovations Tech was crucial to KM and could only succeed, not fail.

As the elevator descended to the first floor, Damian walked out and saw his mother sitting in the living room, drinking tea.

Suddenly, seeing Damian at home, she stood up joyfully and asked, "When did you come? Why didn't you tell me?"

Damian walked to the living room, not intending to sit down, "I was talking to Dad about something. I'm leaving now."

To avoid worrying Nicole, the father and son had tacitly agreed not to tell her about the investigation.

Nicole looked disappointed, reluctantly holding Damian's hand. "Why are you leaving so soon? Have you eaten? Stay and eat with me, okay?"

Her expectant eyes didn't make Damian stay. He lightly patted her shoulder, "No, I have something urgent..."

Before he finished speaking, his phone rang.

Hayden?

"Mr. Hearst, shouldn't you control your woman?" Hayden said.

Damian switched the phone to his other hand and told Nicole he had to go, then walked out of the living room.

Nicole's further words went unanswered.

After a few words, Damian learned that Ashley and Sean were playing tennis.

When did their relationship get so close?

Stepping into the car, Damian started the engine and floored the gas pedal. As the car sped out of the hillside villa, he dialed Ashley's number.

The ringing lasted for nearly a minute, and Damian's anger was about to explode through the bulletproof glass.

Finally, just as he was about to drive over like a rocket, he heard Ashley's voice, "Mr. Hearst?"

Her breathing was uneven, with a hint of tired panting.

Damian's right hand hadn't fully recovered, and holding the phone was a bit strenuous, so he switched to the speaker and tossed it onto the passenger seat, "Where are you?"

"At..." Before Ashley could answer, Damian interrupted, "I don't care where you are. You have thirty minutes to get to Shadowcrest Castle."

"What for?" Ashley's voice rose, her temper flaring.

Damian adjusted the steering wheel with one hand, "Dorian."
