Chapter 406 Let's Have a Baby, Whether It's a Boy or a Girl, I'll Love It

Ashley's heart melted completely when she heard the little girl call her "Mommy."

This scene had appeared in her dreams many, many times; it was the unbearable weight of her life.

Ashley's nose stung sharply, almost bringing her to tears. "Little one, why are you here alone? Did you get separated from your family?"

The little girl pursed her lips, finally realizing that the lady in front of her was not her mom, and lowered her head in disappointment. "Daddy is a big liar. Daddy said Mommy went to the sky to pick stars for me and would come back once she got them. I thought Mommy had come back."

Ashley suddenly understood. This child must have been separated from her mother at a very young age, or perhaps had lost her mother early on. Not wanting to touch on the child's pain, she gently asked, "Do you remember your dad's phone number? I'll call him for you."

The little girl recited a string of numbers fluently.

Ashley dialed the number. "Hello, is this..."

The little girl held the phone, looking aggrieved like a doll from a cartoon. "You lost me again. How can you be so silly?"

Despite her young age, she spoke with a maturity and seriousness that made her seem like a little judge.

Ashley found her adorable.

"Cleo? Where are you? Where did you run off to?"

The girl called Cleo huffed. "I'm not telling you! I'm telling you, you always lose me. I don't want you anymore! I want to go with someone else!"

Ashley couldn't help but laugh. She patted the little girl's head and said to the anxious father on the phone, "Hello, your daughter is by the escalator at the main entrance of the mall. You should come over."

On the other end.

Sean froze when he heard Ashley's voice!

He had just parked the car and, in a blink, found his daughter missing. He was about to contact the police when he suddenly received a call from an unknown number.

He had saved Ashley's number before, but this time his daughter had given her his private number, and in his panic, he didn't connect the dots.

What a coincidence.

Sean rushed into the mall with long strides and immediately saw Ashley chatting and smiling with his daughter.

That scene felt like a dream from another time.

It was as if his deceased wife had crossed the boundary of death and returned to be with Cleo.

His eyes misted over, and his heart, which hadn't felt such deep pain in a long time, suddenly clenched.

"Ms. Astor!"

Ashley turned around and saw the anxious Sean. Looking at the cute little girl, she exclaimed, "No way! What a coincidence! She's your daughter?"

She had only heard Sean mention his daughter, and his words were full of fatherly love.

She hadn't expected to meet the child this way.

Cleo didn't look much like Sean; she must have inherited her mother's looks.

If that was the case, Sean's wife must have been very beautiful.

Sean, anxious about finding his child, had a thin layer of sweat on his face. Seeing Cleo safe and sound, he relaxed and smiled. "Yes, my daughter, Cleo. Cleo, this is Ashley."

"Hi! You're so pretty!" Cleo exclaimed.

Her eyes curved into a smile, making her even more adorable.

Ashley couldn't help but laugh. She genuinely liked this child from the bottom of her heart. She bent down and tapped Cleo's nose. "Next time, don't run off, okay? Stay close to your dad. There are so many people here. If you get lost, where would your dad find you?"

The little girl, realizing her mistake, lowered her big eyes and nodded obediently. "I know, but... Daddy is really silly to lose his own child."

Seeing Sean's helpless expression, Ashley laughed. "Mr. Ross, it seems your daughter is a bit dissatisfied with you?"

Sean, doting and helpless, said, "I've spoiled her. She speaks without thinking."

Thomas, watching Ashley interact with the little girl, couldn't stop smiling. He thought that if Damian and Ashley had a child, she would definitely be a great mom. But seeing that the person who had rushed over was Sean, his smile instantly froze.

"Mr. Ross!"

Thomas walked over with a smile and greeted him.

Sean recognized Thomas, Damian's assistant. People said he was Damian's spokesperson, attending all public events that Damian himself didn't.

So, today? Was his appearance at the mall with Ashley also arranged by Damian?

Hiding his thoughts, Sean nodded. "Thomas, shopping?"

Thomas smiled. "Yes, shopping with Ms. Astor, buying some things."

This sentence carried a lot of information, depending on how Sean interpreted it.

Thomas believed that Sean wouldn't feel comfortable with this!

Sensing the tension between the two, Ashley quickly said, "Mr. Ross, you should take your child. We're heading back."

Holding Cleo's hand, Sean nodded. "Alright, see you."

Cleo, however, was anxious. "Ashley! Will I see you again? Will you play with me?"

Her eyes were full of deep longing, making one's heartache.

Sean wanted to stop her, but Ashley gently said, "Of course, I will. I'll come find you next time."

A child without a mother must deeply crave gentle love. Sean was a good father, but he couldn't fill that void.

Ashley wanted to care for her more.

Cleo immediately brightened up, her eyes shining. "Great! Ashley, I'll wait for you!"

Leaving the mall, Ashley felt happy for a long time.

Thomas asked, "Are you close with Sean?"

If Damian found out, he would be furious! Furious enough to hit someone.

Ashley was worried about Damian causing trouble again and said tactfully, "Not very close. We're in the same industry, so we inevitably have some interactions."

Thomas smiled wryly. How was he supposed to report this to Damian?

Despite the difficulty, Thomas didn't dare to hide anything.

After getting in the car, he reported the day's events to Damian.

After hearing the news, Damian asked, "Sean's daughter?"

"Yes, Mrs. Hearst looked particularly happy. She must really like children. Her eyes were shining when she looked at the child, so gentle."

Damian's expression darkened, and his heart felt empty.

Liking children... Yes, she had always liked children.

When they were together, Ashley had said more than once, "Honey, let's have a child. I like both boys and girls."

But what had he said?

"Have a child? Ashley, do you think you're worthy of having my child? Even if you got pregnant, I wouldn't acknowledge it!"

Pressing his fingers to his brow, Damian didn't dare let himself think further, didn't dare recall Ashley's expression at that time.

He couldn't bear the brokenness and pain on Ashley's face.

"Mr. Hearst?" Thomas prompted, noting the long silence from Damian.

Damian's voice seemed choked, hoarse. "Speak."

"Well, Mrs. Hearst said her parents want her to get married soon. It seems they're urging her quite a bit."
