Chapter 148 I chased you, you sought my ex-girlfriend

Knowing that Lynn hadn't had breakfast yet, Ashley ordered two cups of coffee and two sandwiches.
Sitting by the window, the morning light flowed all over, shining on the woman's red eyes and red nose, making her look even more pitiful.
Perhaps it was a woman's empathy towards another woman. Ashley whispered, "Do you want to eat something first?"
Lynn wiped her eyes with a piece of paper, making them even redder. Her shoulders gently moved up and down. "You heard it, didn't you?"
Ashley didn't intend to hide anything, opening up the topic better, "Just passing by, not intentionally waiting for you here."
Lynn showed a hint of embarrassment, then replaced it with self-deprecation, "I didn't expect you to see me in such a sorry state. You must be laughing at me, right? I asked you to let him go a few days ago, but he let go of me first. We've been together for two years! This time, he went on a business trip; I waited for him every day, missed him, and waited for him. Finally got him back, but he gave me a fatal blow. Men's hearts are so cruel!"
Ashley pushed the food towards her. "I have two main reasons for finding you. First, the concerns you have don't exist. No matter what Hendrix tells you, in my eyes, he can never be anyone other than a superior. I'm not your rival; on the contrary, you can consider me an ally."
Lynn was half-believing, trying to discern Ashley's expression bit by bit, to determine if her words were true or false. "Don't you like him? He's Hendrix, being a lawyer is just a game for him, his true identity is the heir of the Stone family."
Ashley said, "Everyone knows he's only being a lawyer to avoid inheriting the family fortune, but he's not the man I love; wealth has nothing to do with it."
Lynn didn't believe her.
Hendrix's name was a guarantee of a bright future, a guarantee of happiness!
Countless women dreamed of marrying him.
Ashley said, "Secondly, if you don't want to waste two-year relationship with him, don't give up easily."
Lynn asked, "What do you mean?"
Ashley replied, "Just quarreling won't work. Men don't like that kind of woman. To get his attention, you need to find a different approach and cater to his preferences. First, wipe away your tears, do what you need to do, and act as if you're happy even without him."
Lynn stirred her coffee, sipping it, "And then?"
"Communicate more with him at work. Don't mention emotions, and don't bring up the past. Remember to look good every day, radiate beauty. Men always think women can't live without them and they believe women will cry and make a scene after breaking up, which can prove their charms. However, you can’t give in to their tactics."
After a moment of silence, Lynn asked, "Why are you helping me? If I back off, you two can be together."
She didn't believe Ashley was so kind-hearted; there might be a catch.
Ashley answered, "The reason is simple, I hope he stays away from me."
As she spoke, Ashley's phone rang; it was Hendrix.
She smiled, "Look, it’s his call."
Then she flipped her phone over, not answering.
Lynn thought to herself, 'Maybe Ashley is telling the truth; after all, it's hard to control a fickle man like Hendrix. Is she afraid of Hendrix?'
The two of them returned to the law firm jokingly, making sure people inside could hear them as they entered.
Back at their desks, Ashley deliberately said, "Lynn, your dress today is so beautiful; let's go shopping together next time."
Lynn said, "Sure, I'll take you to the store."
Ashley went into her office, and shortly after, Hendrix opened the door again, waving his phone, "What's the matter with calling me? And why didn't you answer my call?"
Ashley said, "Call? Maybe I accidentally pressed the wrong button. When you called, Lynn and I were downstairs having coffee; I wasn’t available. Hendrix, do you need something?"
Pressed the wrong button?
Was he stupid?
Hendrix asked, "Where's my breakfast?"
Ashley slapped her forehead, "Sorry, Hendrix, I forgot. Just wait a moment; I'll order a meal for you and have it sent to your office later."
Hendrix's mouth curved into a smirk, picking up where they left off, "You and Lynn having coffee? When did you two become so close?"
Ashley smiled, open and friendly. "Lynn is good at handling divorce cases; a friend of mine was going through a divorce and consulted her; Lynn provided me with a lot of professional help."
Her answer was flawless, leaving Hendrix with no room for argument. With a dark face, he could only say, "I'm pursuing you, and you're talking business with my ex-girlfriend?"
Ashley said, "Pursuing me? Did I agree? I didn't agree, so it's just your unilateral harassment. I'm not very familiar with the relevant terms. Hendrix, you're an expert; how do you determine sentencing and conviction in the legal code?"
Hendrix was so angry his face turned red; he wanted to teach her a lesson!
"Hendrix, you're here too." The receptionist waited for a while; it seemed like Hendrix had no intention of leaving, so she took a few steps forward and whispered.
Hendrix turned around, but what caught his eye first wasn't the receptionist but the particularly eye-catching bouquet in her arms.
Budding champagne roses, a cluster of flowers, clean and gentle.
Hendrix asked, "Whose flowers are these?"
The receptionist smiled and looked inside, "They're Ashley's."
Ashley glanced at the slightly withered bouquet on the table. The last case hadn't been solved yet, and now there was another one to deal with
Who could it be?
Hendrix snatched the bouquet, rummaged through it, and found a card that read, 'Keep smiling.'
Just two simple words, no signature.
Ashley took the bouquet from the table and handed it to the receptionist, saying, "Please throw this away for me. Thank you."
Then she happily carried the fresh bouquet from Hendrix and took a deep breath of the floral scent, "So fragrant. I really like today's flowers."
Hendrix turned to the receptionist, "You can go."
Sensing the tense atmosphere, the receptionist hurriedly left with the flowers.
Hendrix closed the door heavily, his gaze piercing through the wall at the roses, "Who sent these?"
Ashley carefully placed the flowers on the desk, playing with the petals, her smile never fading, "From an anonymous sender."
Hendrix asked, "A suitor? Boyfriend? Do you have a boyfriend?"
He had never asked about Ashley's love life before; had she found someone?
No, Harold's words didn't hint at Ashley having a boyfriend.
Ashley replied vaguely, "What kind of person do you think would send roses? It certainly wouldn't be the balloon seller on the street, right?"
It turned out this tactic worked.
For the rest of the day, Hendrix didn't bother her, a rare moment of peace.
At lunchtime, Lynn came to Ashley on her own, seeing the large bouquet on her desk, "Such beautiful flowers."
Ashley said, "Just received them today, not from Hendrix."
Lynn's eyes lit up. Finally relieved, Ashley emphasized her lack of feelings for Hendrix, revealing she had someone else. She advised, "You invited me for coffee in the morning. I'll treat you to lunch at a great nearby restaurant."
After a quick tidy-up, Ashley eagerly went to the appointment.
As they reached the ground floor, a car honked.
Ashley didn't pay attention, but Lynn tugged at her sleeve, "Look over there, a Rolls-Royce!"
Even in the CBD, top luxury cars weren't a common sight every day, especially not just 32.8 feet away.
It felt like she could step into high society with just a few steps.
Following her gaze, the familiar license plate number left Ashley feeling disappointed.
She quickly turned her head, pretending not to have seen it.
The honk sounded a second time.
White-collar workers streamed downstairs for lunch, and the flashy luxury car was undoubtedly the topic of discussion.
Ashley quickened her pace, believing that even if Damian was inside, with his nature, he wouldn't rashly come out to be gawked at.
"Ashley, why the rush? Is there an emergency?"
