Chapter 427 Exposing the Backstabber

"Ashley, when did you leave? Why didn't you tell me? I didn't even get a chance to see you off."

Three days later, Ashley was about to meet Paula when she ran into Hannah, who somehow knew her whereabouts and blocked her at the door as she got out of the car.

Ashley got out, closed the door, and brushed her bangs. "You've got some nerve, following me?"

Hannah pouted. "It just means we have a connection. I happened to be in the area and saw your car."

Ashley didn't have time for small talk. "I'll tell you what you want to know later. I need to meet someone now."

Hannah, full of questions, had to hold back. "Ashley, don't worry. I believe you'll come back!"

Ashley smiled. "I hope you're right."

With that, Ashley walked into the coffee shop, pushed the door open, and saw Paula sitting by the window.

Ashley never thought her audacious cousin would betray her at a critical moment. Leaving her to develop in the States was a mistake.

She put down her bag and sat down, staring directly at Paula. "Do you know why I asked you to meet?"

Paula was decked out in luxury items, with a designer bag worth at least $200,000 on the empty chair next to her, as if she had returned to her pre-bankruptcy lifestyle.

Ashley had found her a job in Rochester City, which paid well but couldn't support such extravagance.

Paula crossed her legs and leaned back in her chair, her eyes behind tinted contacts showing a hint of a smile. "I'm not as smart as you. I can't guess why you wanted to meet."

Playing dumb?

Ashley didn't beat around the bush. "When did you start getting involved with Trinity?"

Paula gave her a sidelong glance, looking at the makeup-free Ashley as if she were a freak. "Ashley, don't be so harsh. We're kindred spirits, not just involved."

Ashley snorted. "You're proud to be used by Trinity? Aren't you afraid she'll kick you to the curb one day, leaving you worse off than me?"

Paula laughed as if she'd heard the funniest joke, not stopping for a long time. "I don't understand what you're saying, but you seem to be in trouble. Need some money? I have some to spare."

Ashley scrutinized the face she found so detestable, wanting to tear it apart with her gaze. But more than disgust, she felt pity. Paula was completely used by Trinity and was still smug about it.

"Did she tell you to report me?"

Paula feigned ignorance, her eyes wide with confusion. "Report? What report? Someone reported you? For what?"

How had she not noticed Paula's acting skills before? "Trinity befriended you, gave you money, and sweet-talked you into targeting me. But once I'm down, no one will care if you die in Rochester City."

Paula clicked her tongue, stirring her coffee. "Don't make yourself sound so noble. You're no better than her! You said you'd find me a job in Rochester City, but a lousy ad agency with a $20,000-30,000 monthly salary? Are you kidding me?"

Ashley had used her connections to find Paula a well-paying job by Rochester City's standards, but for someone who used to be a socialite, a few thousand dollars was nothing.

Half a month ago, Paula met Trinity at a dinner party, and they hit it off.

Trinity took her out for wild nights, spending money recklessly, making her feel like she was back on top of the world.

A few days ago, Trinity convinced Paula to report Ashley, making it impossible for her to practice law.

Since Paula was Ashley's relative and had enough evidence, and with Trinity pulling strings behind the scenes, it wasn't long before someone contacted Sky Balance Law Firm.

Afterward, Trinity gave Paula a million dollars and promised her a high position at Emperial Avenue Group.

Ashley hadn't initially suspected Paula, but after ruling out others, she zeroed in on her. She went to the ad agency and found out Paula had quit.

Two days ago, Ashley followed Paula and saw her partying with Trinity at a bar.

The last time she clashed with Trinity at a beauty salon, Trinity didn't retaliate immediately but used someone else to do her dirty work.

Was it a mentor's advice or her own cunning? Who knew.

Thinking of this, Ashley snorted. "You think teaming up with Trinity means I can't touch you?"

Her gaze was colder than a winter storm, her voice low but intimidating to Paula.

"Trinity and I are friends, but I don't know what you mean by a report."

Ashley pulled out a file and slapped it on the table. "Won't admit it? Fine. Here's the surveillance footage of you reporting me, and the recordings of your conversations with Trinity at the bar. But I'm not here to jog your memory. I'm here to tell you to warn Trinity that I won't let her off."

Paula felt like she'd hit a wall, her back aching, unable to meet Ashley's eyes. "What are you going to do?"

Ashley stuffed the file back into her bag, stood up, and looked down at the pale-faced Paula. "You should've gone all out and killed me. Otherwise, you're the ones who'll die."

With that, Ashley strode out of the coffee shop.

Now she was sure Trinity was behind this.

She would settle the score!

"Ashley!"

Hannah, hiding by the car, jumped out when she saw her. "Ashley, who was that inside?"

Ashley opened the car door and got in, looking up from inside. "Want to join me in something fun?"

"Of course! I knew you were up to something big."

The engine roared to life, and Ashley floored the gas pedal, speeding away.

"That was my uncle's daughter. She teamed up with Trinity to report me."

Hannah was even angrier than her. "Fuck! That bitch Trinity used your cousin against you. That's so low! Ashley, let's kill her!"

Ashley laughed. "Even if we kill her, I won't get my license back. And once it's on record, I'll never get it again."

Ashley was so calm that Hannah felt like crying. Ashley was one of the best lawyers, why did bad people always target her?

"So, are you just going to take it?"

Take it? The only person Ashley ever tolerated was Damian. Who did Trinity think she was?

"Of course not! Why else would I bring you along?"
