Chapter 340 Obedient and Adorable

Ashley had a meeting at the law firm. When she walked out of the conference room, she spotted Lynn strutting gracefully. Lynn had on flawless makeup, a sweet long-sleeved blouse, a pencil skirt, and nude high heels. Her long hair flowed in big waves behind her.

How did she lose the case and get dumped by Hendrix, yet she looks unaffected and even more beautiful?

Hannah snorted and muttered, "Her perfume is way too strong. I almost choked during the meeting!"

Ashley tapped her on the head, reminding her not to gossip.

Hannah covered her head, looking all aggrieved, "I also want to be kind, beautiful, and lovely, but some people don't deserve it. I don't want to show my good side to her; I want to show it to you."

"Please don't. All I see is your resentful face every day," Ashley said.

"Huh?" Hannah pinched her face, relaxed her muscles, and gave a cute smile, "Is this better?"

Ashley laughed, "Have you finished organizing the documents?"

"Yes, yes! I sent a copy to your email and cc'd Mr. Long. I'll print a copy for you later. Staring at the computer for too long is not good; long-term blue light exposure can cause spots on your face," Hannah said.

Ashley touched her face. Over the years, she had neglected her skincare routine, occasionally using a mask for hydration, and had almost stopped going to beauty salons.

Back when she was thriving in Rochester City, she had membership cards at various beauty salons. Most of those cards had no time limit, so maybe she could find some time to get treatment.

"Hannah, are you free tonight? I'll treat you to a spa," Ashley said.

Hannah couldn't be happier; she would cancel any plans for this, "Yes!"

In the afternoon, Harold called her to his office to discuss the case between Quantum Innovations Tech and Infinity Enterprises Group.

He tapped his fingers on the desk for a long time before finally saying with a worried look, "Ashley, are you being threatened by Hendrix? Do you really want to take this case?"

Ashley knew what he was concerned about, "You're worried I'll run into Damian?"

Harold rubbed his face, "So, you're mentally prepared?"

"The fact that Infinity Enterprises Group's employees were diagnosed with cancer is undeniable. I've seen the medical records; they all occurred around the same time. This is not a coincidence, and Quantum Innovations Tech's batch of home equipment indeed has issues. With such obvious technical flaws, shouldn't they pay the price?" Ashley said.

Harold gave a bitter smile, "I know you want to uphold justice, but I'm afraid that instead of securing their rights, you'll end up paying the price."

Ashley asked, "Harold, why did you study law?"

Harold was a bit confused by the question, "What do you mean?"

Ashley said seriously, "My family wanted me to study business, and they even planned for me to attend a business school abroad and eventually take over the Astor Group. But I wanted to study law. Maybe it was the influence of TV shows when I was a kid. I always thought that wearing a lawyer's robe and standing in court to seek justice for the victims, watching them come out of the abyss, felt incredibly sacred."

She added, "Later, when I went to college, read law books, and participated in practice, I saw many bloody cases and realized that there are gray areas beyond the law. Many times, even with the code as a basis, we are still powerless. But I still want to be a light, even if just a candle, to provide a bit more light, so..."

She took a breath, "If lawyers retreat when facing strong opponents, then fairness and justice will not be upheld by the law but by power. What is the meaning of the law's existence?"

Harold was convinced. After working in the legal field for so many years, he always reminded himself not to forget his original intention. But that intention was a piece of pure land from childhood, which he deliberately protected to avoid contamination, losing its original meaning.

The original intention was not to stand still but to move forward with one's head held high, even knowing the road ahead was difficult.

"Do what you want. If anything happens, we've got your back," Harold said.

Ashley tilted her head and smiled, "Harold, don't boast."

"What? Can't I boost my confidence even if my abilities don't allow it?" Harold said.

"Of course! Harold, you're especially handsome right now!" Ashley said.

"Stop making fun of me!" Harold said.

In the afternoon, Ashley and Hannah went to the hospital to visit the cancer patients.

They were all still young, the oldest being forty-two and the youngest only twenty-nine.

Lying in bed, they looked pale and lifeless.

"Miss Astor, we heard you took this case. Please seek justice for us. Our... our child hasn't been born yet. I don't want my child to be born without seeing the father, Miss Astor..." A pregnant woman, eight months along, walked with difficulty. She tightly held Ashley's hand, tears streaming from her darkened eyes.

The young man lying in bed weakly said, "Miss Astor, we came to Rochester City from out of town to make a living. We just bought a house last year and have to pay the mortgage every month... The baby is almost here, and my wife quit her job to stay home and take care of the baby. She has no income right now. If something happened to me, I'm worried about..."

The man choked up and couldn't continue.

Ashley patted the pregnant woman's hand, holding back her tears, and calmly said, "Don't worry; I will do my best to get you the compensation you deserve. Let your husband focus on recovering; he will get better."

Cancer was an incurable disease, and cases of complete recovery were extremely rare in medical history. It required a strong heart and a good mindset for support.

If they didn't get compensation, the future of this family was hard to imagine.

Hannah, who was a crier, started to cry right there. After leaving the ward, she sniffled, "Ashley, they are so pitiful. I cried my eyes out. You're amazing; how can you hold back your tears?"

Ashley's nose was very sore. She walked several steps before wiping the corners of her eyes, "I am their lawyer, the person they're counting on. If I cry with them, they will think I'm weak. I must show the most calm and determined side to give them confidence."

Hannah sniffed back her tears and blinked admiringly, "Ashley... you're glowing."

"Stop talking nonsense!" Ashley said.

After a simple dinner, Ashley took Hannah to a high-end private beauty club in Rochester City. At the front desk, she reported her card number, and the staff was surprised, "Miss Astor, you haven't been here for over three years."

Ashley replied, "I'm too Busy."

The staff invited her to the best private room on the third floor because she was a top VIP there.

As they walked out of the elevator, Hannah was dazzled, her heart pounding, "Ashley, who exactly are you? This place is membership-only, and a card costs $100,000. My mom has one, but she refuses to get me one, saying I need to develop good frugal habits."

Ashley said, "Isn't that what I'm here for? You can use my card anytime."

Hannah feigned hugging her leg, "Ashley, please take care of me. I'm easy to take care of, don't eat much, not picky, obedient, and cute!"

They laughed and walked inside, soon arriving at a room decorated with golden patterns and two beautiful beds inside.

Hannah couldn't wait and immediately jumped onto one of the beds.

Ashley was a step behind. Just as she lifted her foot, she heard someone call her, "Ashley? What are you doing here?"
