Chapter 262: Exposed on the Spot, Sister-in-law Becomes Girlfriend
Hayden acted like he didn't see her look and smirked, "Mr. Hearst, you can't just show up empty-handed to visit a patient. Look at Ashley; she even brought flowers."
Damian glanced at the coffee table, where baby's breath and sunflowers were soaking up the sunlight, looking pretty nice. "One bouquet ain't enough?"
Christian was in agony, both physically and mentally, feeling like he was on fire. He snorted, "You're here to see me or to laugh at me?"
Damian stood at the foot of the bed, checking out his messy state. "You messed up, and now you're blaming others?"
Christian was speechless, gritting his teeth in anger. "Don't let me find out who did this, damn it!"
Damian said coldly, "Always messing around with women, and now you've been played by one? Be more careful next time, especially in hotels. Think about why others are fine, but you got targeted."
Hayden chimed in, "Seriously, even if you were in a rush, you should've picked someone better. Trinity? What were you thinking?"
Christian was frustrated and regretted his actions. Why did it have to be Trinity? He would've been better off with some random model!
Even when he was drunk, he wouldn't pick a woman his friend had discarded. It was gross! "Damian, I swear, nothing happened between us! I didn't even take my pants off!"
Ashley pressed her lips together, smiling faintly.
Damian noticed her expression. His heart stirred a bit, but he kept a cold face. "No need to explain; it has nothing to do with me."
Christian found it even harder to explain, angrily pounding the bed. "I just don't get it. In such a big hotel, how could the surveillance fail? This is too suspicious."
Ashley's eyelids fluttered almost imperceptibly. What a coincidence!
Hayden swung his legs, about to laugh but thought better of it. "Maybe some woman you wronged cursed you. Why don't you hit up the confessional at church when you get better?"
Damian, still with a cold face, said, "How about you just stay clean and stop fooling around with women?"
Feeling lectured from all sides, Christian grew more frustrated. "Are you guys my friends or not? Have you shown any concern for me since you walked in? You're all nagging more than my dad."
Hayden sniffed and stifled his laughter. "Why did your dad beat your ass like this? The photos online weren't enough to make Ulysses that mad."
"Don't even get me started! Someone sent those photos to my dad this morning. Yes! Those photos were taken inside the hotel. Someone installed cameras to frame me. I'm going to get to the bottom of this!" He immediately instructed his assistant to investigate.
However, the response was that even after dismantling the room, no surveillance equipment was found, and the hotel assured that they would never install cameras in the suites.
Christian scratched his head in frustration. "Just my luck!"
The group sat in the hospital room for quite a while, mostly watching Christian throw tantrums. Damian said, "It's getting late. Have a good rest. We're heading out."
Hayden added, "The doctor will be here for rounds soon. Let's go."
As they spoke, the doctor for rounds knocked and entered.
Ingrid Larsen led the way, the first to enter. Seeing Hayden inside, she was a bit surprised. "Dr. Hayden Moretti?"
Hayden was also surprised. Dr. Larsen from general surgery was leading the rounds. His heart skipped a beat as he thought of something, hurriedly pulling her outside, but it was too late.
Ingrid spotted the pretty girl on the sofa and lit up. "Oh my gosh! Congrats, Dr. Moretti! So you two are a thing now? I knew it. You were so into her; no way you wouldn't get her."
Ashley was confused for a sec but quickly got what Ingrid meant. She glanced at Damian and mentally crossed her fingers. 'Hayden, good luck, buddy.'
Hayden felt like the room was spinning and wished he were the one in the bed. "Dr. Larsen, what are you talking about? I don't get it."
Dr. Larsen, holding a medical chart, smiled warmly. "I remember your name is Ashley. The first time you came to my clinic, Dr. Moretti was all over it. Hayden even asked me about your injuries to get closer to you. Hayden's a good guy, handsome, capable, and super gentle with girls. Ashley, you’ve got good taste."
Hayden felt the doom creeping in.
Damian's face stayed stony as he watched the drama unfold.
Ashley smiled awkwardly. "Dr. Larsen, you're right. He is a good man."
Ingrid smiled lovingly. "Yes! Lots of girls at the hospital like Dr. Moretti. I'll keep an eye on him for you."
Ashley smiled sweetly. "Thank you. Please do keep an eye on him and make sure he doesn't flirt with other women."
Hayden's mouth twitched, his smile more like a grimace. "Ha ha, please stop."
Christian, catching on, asked, "Wait, you and Ashley are dating?"
What a twist!
Hayden slapped him on the butt. "Shut up!"
Ingrid finished her check-up, gave a few instructions, and before leaving, said to Ashley again, "Ashley, drop by the hospital often. If the staff sees how gorgeous Dr. Moretti's girlfriend is, they won't dare have any other thoughts."
Ashley nodded. "I will, Dr. Larsen."
After seeing her off and closing the door, Hayden put on a super sincere smile. "Damian, I can explain!"
Before he could finish, Damian grabbed him by the collar of his white coat. "What have you done?"
Hayden cried out, "It's a misunderstanding, all a misunderstanding. I did it for you, Damian. I was desperate to find out about Ashley's injuries and couldn't find a good reason to get close to Dr. Larsen, so I said I wanted her to get some info. I swear, I'm just a pure and kind-hearted doc. How could I have any bad intentions?"
Damian's face stayed cold. "It's been so long. Don't tell me you haven't had a chance to explain."
"I did, but I thought having a so-called girlfriend as an excuse was pretty good. At least no one is setting me up on blind dates anymore. Damian, you know how painful those are. Have some sympathy." Hayden said.
Ashley held back her laughter. "It's okay. I'm not mad."
Damian shot him a warning look. "Come up with a good explanation, got it?"
Hayden clasped his hands together, begging for mercy. "Got it!"
Christian cackled gleefully, "Don't be a wimp, Hayden. Isn't having a girlfriend great? Besides, Ashley is single. Don't waste her on someone else. She could be my... Ow!"
Damian slapped his already injured back with enough force to mix flesh and blood. "You should switch to another department. Most of your injuries are in your brain."
Ashley covered her mouth in shock.
Damian's slap could kill him. It was evidently painful.
Christian howled in pain, cold sweat breaking out all over his body. It took him a long time to recover. "Are you trying to kill me? It was just a joke. Did you have to go that far?"
Damian lowered his hand, the warning clear. "Some jokes aren't worth making if you don't want to die."
