Chapter 420 Became Famous
"Ashley!"
Ashley wanted to pretend she didn't see and just walk away, but she couldn't stand Evelina shouting at the top of her lungs.
She was really impressed. With such a good voice, why didn't these girls go to the music department? Studying law was a waste of their natural vocal talent.
Steadying her breath, Ashley walked on the cobblestone path towards Damian.
Damian stood there, seemingly indifferent to everything around him. His eyes were vacant, and he didn't even notice Ashley approaching.
Yes, this was Damian. Ordinary things couldn't catch his eye.
But why was he here?
And it looked like he and Evelina had also come out of the broadcast hall. Did they just listen to Sean's lecture?
Did that mean Damian saw her answering questions?
In the short 40-foot walk, Ashley's heart felt like it was on a roller coaster, going up and down.
Evelina hooked her arm around Ashley's, affectionately leaning in like a large body accessory. "Ashley! I thought you weren't coming. If you hadn't, we wouldn't have had that brilliant answer."
Ashley wasn't used to being hugged like this, but she kept her face emotionless. "The firm had some work arrangements, so I just came to take a look."
She didn't dare mention Sean in front of Damian, fearing he would go crazy again for no reason.
Evelina excitedly gave a thumbs up. "Ashley, your answer was amazing. Why don't you consider becoming a guest professor at our school?"
Out of the corner of her eye, Ashley saw Damian, still as cold as winter snow. He didn't say anything, but there was a strange murderous aura about him.
What was he angry about?
What was he mad at?
Ashley tapped Evelina's forehead. "Guest lecturing requires qualifications. I'm not up to that level."
Evelina, used to special treatment, grabbed Damian's arm and said, "With Damian here, what can't be done? With just one word from him, not only could you be a guest professor, the whole law school could be yours."
Damian let her mess around without stopping her, but Ashley couldn't let Evelina say such dangerous things. If someone heard and spread it, how could she work? "I'm not interested in teaching. Being a teacher is out of the question."
Damian, who had been silent, finally spoke. "Do you have any other plans?"
This question was directed at Ashley.
The distant tone set a boundary between them.
Ashley didn't want to be alone with them, so she made an excuse. "The firm has other colleagues, and we have a dinner gathering later."
At this moment, she didn't know whether to be glad that Hannah wasn't there to be intimidated by Damian or to wish she was there to provide a convenient excuse.
Most of the people had left, making Damian stand out even more. He frowned slightly, looked at his watch, and said coldly, "Evelina, let's go back."
Ashley's heart suddenly ached.
How could he be like this?
Even if she said she had something to do, couldn't he at least show a little kindness?
No, he didn't even look at her properly.
He changed his attitude faster than flipping a book. Didn't he remember who saved his life? Now he wasn't even running a fever!
Evelina wasn't stupid. A few words were enough to tell there was something wrong between them. "So, Ashley, when are you free to come and hang out with me?"
"Sure."
Damian walked away without a trace of reluctance.
Watching his retreating figure, Ashley breathed a sigh of relief, but her chest felt empty.
Just as she was about to leave, she suddenly heard someone calling her, "Ms. Astor!"
She quickly glanced at Damian, who hadn't gone far, and didn't dare to respond to Sean immediately.
When Sean got closer, she smiled and greeted him, "Mr. Ross, congratulations on the success of your lecture."
Sean had finally managed to extricate himself from a group of students, repeatedly declining several invitations from school leaders, and hurried out to find someone. Through the glass, he saw Ashley talking to a man and a woman. The woman was unfamiliar, but the man was very familiar.
Tonight, besides the school leaders on stage, there was an extra face.
That person was Damian.
Putting two and two together, it wasn't hard to conclude that he was probably there for Ashley.
If so, why did he leave early without talking more with Ashley?
Putting aside his speculations, Sean smiled and said, "Thank you. Your answer was also excellent. I think you're going to be famous at Law and Politics University."
Ashley smiled wryly. "Mr. Ross, please don't tease me. I'm most afraid of fame, especially those terrible posts on the school website. It's like a slaughterhouse."
Back in college, she had once become a hot topic on the school forum. Some bored people had organized a campus beauty contest, and she, who knew nothing about it, had unwittingly become a public enemy.
Sean said, "That's not hard. I'll have someone keep an eye on it and delete any posts related to you."
Ashley thanked him repeatedly. "That would be a great help, Mr. Ross. Are you having dinner with the school leaders later?"
Sean sighed. "It's a customary rule. They're all old acquaintances, and the topics are always the same. Would you like to join us? I could introduce you to Mr. Perez."
Ashley quickly declined. "There's no need for that. Mr. Perez is highly respected. How could I dare to disturb him?"
Sean didn't insist. Thinking of the lively and enthusiastic Hannah during the lecture, he asked, "Where's Hannah?"
Ashley looked embarrassed.
"Ms. Astor, what a coincidence!"
Lynn was holding a large bouquet of flowers, with sweet makeup, a pencil skirt, a chiffon blouse, and slender high heels, looking both exquisite and charming.
Since joining Justice Peak Law Firm, she seemed to have become even more stylish.
Ashley said calmly, "Congratulations on joining Justice Peak Law Firm. Sky Balance Law Firm couldn't keep a talent like you."
Lynn smiled elegantly without showing her teeth. "Thank you, Ms. Astor. How have you been? How is everyone?"
Ashley smiled. She hadn't shown much concern for everyone at the firm before, but now she knew to ask?
Not only had she become more stylish, but she was also more socially adept.
Ashley raised an eyebrow and smiled lightly with her naturally red lips. "Everyone's doing well, but it's a bit quieter without you. Not as fun as before. Lynn, have you considered coming back? You're always welcome."
Lynn moved closer to Sean, looking up at him, as if afraid Ashley would steal him away. "I'm doing well at Justice Peak Law Firm, learning a lot from Mr. Ross."
Didn't she learn anything before?
It disgusted her.
Ashley raised an eyebrow, pretending to be regretful. "Mr. Ross is a national idol. I'd like to learn from him too. Mr. Ross, do you think I have that honor?"
Lynn's eyes almost popped out, filled with surprise and wariness, as if a treasure was about to be stolen by a burglar.
But in front of Sean, she could only hide her anger in a sharp tone. "Ms. Astor is a favorite at Sky Balance Law Firm. If you leave, Mr. Brin and Mr. Long would be heartbroken."
