Chapter 281 Open Your Mouth
Ashley hung up, her face turning a bit red. "You gonna see Mr. Hearst?"
Thomas acted like he didn't hear her and just nodded. "Mr. Hearst is chillin' and doesn't wanna be bugged by anyone. He’s got some free time now. Got anything you want me to pass on?"
Thomas was basically saying, "Damian's got time, so spill whatever you want; it won't bother him."
Ashley was stumped. What was she supposed to say? The guy's got the best doctors, security, gear, and service. They were treating him like royalty. "Nah, you go ahead."
"Cool, Ashley. If you need anything, hit me up. I'll be at Limehof for the next few days." Thomas shut the door gently. He was pretty sure they were talking about Damian.
Ashley's friends had warned her about Damian. It seemed like getting close to him was getting trickier.
While waiting for Thomas to come back, Damian took a moment to meet with Dante.
Dante opened a file and started his report. After going through the details, he summed it up, "Sven wants to settle this quietly."
Damian barely reacted. "What's he offering?"
Dante laid it out, "He knows you want that land on Moon Island and is willing to sell it to you for less than it's worth."
Sven's yacht had set sail without proper checks on the weather, and the crew messed up, leading to a crash with a tsunami. If this went to court, Sven's rep would be toast.
In this mess, he couldn't afford to piss off Damian.
Even if it wasn't his fault, hurting Damian would cost him big time.
Damian stayed stone-faced. "That's it?"
Even without this mess, he’d get that land, and no way would he let Sven overcharge him.
Dante said, "I shot down that offer and made some other demands. Sven's still thinking it over."
Damian closed his eyes, too lazy to respond. 'Thinking it over? Does he even have that option?'
"Getting him to agree is your job. Don't let me down, Mr. Moretti," Damian said.
Dante got the hint. Damian was hurt, and so was Ashley. Sven didn't know who Ashley was, but he should've figured out that anyone close to Damian wasn't just anyone.
Damian needed to put more heat on his crew.
"Got it, Mr. Hearst. Consider it done. Just rest up." Dante said.
After Dante left, Thomas walked in. They nodded at each other as they passed.
"Mr. Hearst, Hendrix busted his right leg and is downstairs," Thomas said.
Damian had the whole top floor to himself while everyone else was below. The best medical stuff was all up here.
Damian didn't care about Hendrix and stayed quiet.
Thomas watched Damian's face. From experience, Damian was probably waiting for some news he wanted. 'Too bad, Mrs. Hearst doesn't seem to care much.'
"Mrs. Hearst asked about you. I told her, and she seemed worried. But she's got a concussion, and the doc told her to chill, so she didn't ask more," Thomas said.
Damian's half-closed eyes slowly opened, his face still the same, but there was a spark in his eyes. "Her head got hit again. Make sure the docs check her out thoroughly. Every inch of her. The brain's connected to all the nerves, and if something's off, it could mess her up for life."
Only Ashley could make Damian go on like this without him even noticing.
Thomas nodded. "Got it, Mr. Hearst. I'll make sure the docs get it. Need me to deal with Sven?"
Sven was dying to see Damian. Even if he couldn't, meeting someone close to him would do. That's why Thomas wasn't keen on meeting him.
Damian said, "Leave it to Dante."
"Sure thing. Also, I told the board you're out of town checking on a project. Important stuff will come to you via email. The VP will handle events in your place, as usual," Thomas said.
This wasn't the first time this had happened, and Thomas handled it like a pro.
Damian glanced at his immobilized arm, frowning a bit. "Clear the hallway. I'm going downstairs."
Ashley wasn't in any shape to move. Even if Damian wanted to bring her to the top floor, he had to think about her condition. He had to go down to see her himself.
"On it!" Thomas was super quick. A few minutes later, the floor below was quiet, and all the room doors were shut. The medical staff had cleared out.
Ashley lay in bed, trying to clear her mind and zone out.
Damian pushed the door open and saw Ashley's pale lips moving slightly. He couldn't help but chuckle. "Who you cursing?"
His sudden words startled Ashley, who was about to doze off. "Aren't you supposed to be resting 'cause you're hurt? Why are you down here?"
Damian had a sling around his neck, his arms across his chest. He used his long legs to pull a chair to the bedside. When he sat down, he had to spread his knees a bit to avoid hitting the bed. "Stay put. Your brain wasn't that sharp to begin with. After two concussions, it might be even duller."
Seeing that he was indeed fine, Ashley felt relieved. "How'd you break your arm?"
Damian said, "Don't you remember?"
Should she? She'd been knocked out.
"If I hadn't blocked it for you, you wouldn't just have a concussion now; your head would be split open," Damian said.
Ashley couldn't recall the details, but what he said made sense. Such a heavy plank hitting her head—how could it only result in a concussion?
So, she owed him big time again.
Should she admit it or play dumb?
Damian poured a glass of water with one hand and slowly raised the bed a bit. "You're already tired enough. Are you forcing it to come up with excuses for you? You're not only hard on others but also on yourself."
Ashley didn't like the feeling of being seen through by him. "Sven will definitely give you the land. Even if it's not my credit, I still put in the effort. The favor is repaid."
Damian brought the glass to her lips. "Open your mouth."
Ashley's mind went blank, and she obediently opened her mouth to drink the water. Her throat felt much better.
Damian said, "That island will soon be mine. Is there anything you want to do?"
Ashley was puzzled. "Me?"
Damian wasn't joking. "After all, we fought for it together. Such a big island can't just be used to build a sanatorium. It can be developed for other purposes. Don't overwork your brain. Take your time to think about it when you get better, and let me know."
Ashley refused. She didn't want to be tangled up with Damian anymore. "That's your private property. I won't interfere."
Damian dropped a bombshell. "You're one of the shareholders."
