Chapter 506 Family of Three Reunited
The enormous sound exploded in his heart, then scattered into countless fragments, sliding over every inch of still-alive softness.
Damian's cold lips finally managed to form a slight curve.
He thought he had forgotten how to smile.
"Mr. Hearst?"
There was no response from him for a long time, so the other person asked softly.
Damian said, "Where is she?"
"Ms. Astor has returned to the country. Her flight is direct to Coastal City, and Natalia is also on the plane."
Damian pondered. Ashley had gone to great lengths to come to Sylvania, so why did she suddenly take the child back?
"Send someone to protect her secretly and see what she's doing back in the country."
"Yes, Mr. Hearst. The people in Coastal City are already in place. If Ms. Astor makes any moves, they will report back."
Damian said, "Tell them to inform me directly."
"Yes!"
Only Ashley enjoyed this kind of treatment. Other matters were filtered and only the important ones were reported back to Damian.
"What about the Volcano case? The lawsuit is about to start, and it looks like their CEO won't be going to Rochester City. Should we proceed with the next step of the plan?"
The next step was to create chaos at the group's headquarters to force the masked man out.
Damian said, "Not for now."
If they used Ashley as bait, whatever they wanted to do would have to be done domestically. On his home turf, Damian found it easier to act.
Soon, Damian said, "Keep an eye on Volcano's legal team, especially their CLO Chad. This person is suspicious."
Besides being suspicious, there was another point worth noting. Chad had privately contacted Ashley, hoping she would serve as the lawyer for this case. After being rejected, he did not give up immediately but continued to contact Ashley privately.
Ashley was competent, but there were many more qualified and capable people than her. Chad specifically sought her out, likely to provoke her against KM.
His intentions were malicious.
"Yes, boss, I'll investigate."
After hanging up the phone, Damian's lips were still slightly curved.
He and Ashley had a five-year-old daughter, and he was naturally overjoyed. More importantly, she had kept the child back then, avoiding a tragedy.
If Ashley hadn't kept the child, he would have done everything to heal her emotional wounds, which was a daunting thought.
Fortunately, God hadn't completely closed the door between them.
There was a knock on the door.
Damian composed himself and said, "Come in."
Thomas walked in briskly and nodded, "Mr. Hearst, we have an answer regarding Hannibal's cause of death. It was poisoning, but we still haven't found out how the poison was administered. The food he ate that day was not poisoned, and no poison residue was detected in the air. We can't find the entry point of the poison."
Damian asked, "Has the autopsy report come out?"
"It has. It was sarin gas. A small amount of residue was found in Hannibal's respiratory tract."
Damian's eyes narrowed slightly as he pondered, "Sarin, a deadly agent once used in military chemical weapons. To kill a prisoner, they used such a ruthless method, indicating that Hannibal had secrets that absolutely couldn't be revealed."
Thomas regretted that they couldn't extract information from Hannibal before his death. "With Hannibal dead, many secrets are buried underground and hard to uncover. Our people searched his house thoroughly. Hannibal was very cautious and left no traces."
Damian said, "If Hannibal dared to go this far, he must have had a backup plan. If he didn't have some means of protection, how could he have survived until now? Keep looking. See if he has a safe deposit box at the bank, and check if his wife, children, or other relatives have secretly acquired any property. Search everything related to him."
"Yes," Thomas added, "Sean is investigating Hannibal. He might have thought of this too. Should we give him some information?"
Initially, Damian wanted to do Sean a favor, letting him uncover the truth to help the Astor family. As long as the result benefited Ashley, it didn't matter who did it.
But now, Damian said, "No need. Let him rely on his abilities."
Thomas understood that Damian wanted to regain control, "When I came over, I saw Jessica. Her hand was injured, but she insisted on making soup herself."
"I know." Damian's tone was indifferent.
Thomas didn't know what to say.
For the past two years, everyone had seen Jessica's efforts for Damian. Despite having no official status, Jessica willingly took care of Damian, which was touching. But love alone didn't seem to be enough.
Damian said, "We're going back to the country tomorrow."
Thomas nodded, "Okay, Mr. Hearst."
"Ashley arrived in Coastal City today."
Thomas was stunned, "So suddenly?"
"She took the child back."
Mentioning Natalia, Damian's lips involuntarily curved slightly, with a hint of tenderness.
Thomas was shocked, then delighted, "That is..."
"My and Ashley's daughter," Damian said with a light smile.
Thomas was so happy he almost jumped for joy, "That's great! Really great! A child needs a father. No matter what, Mrs. Hearst surely wants to give her a complete family!"
Thomas's instinctive reaction revealed his true thoughts. He most hoped for Damian and Ashley to reconcile and reunite as a family of three.
Just the thought of it made him excited.
Damian looked at the sky with gentle eyes. Winter was approaching, and the temperature was dropping rapidly, but his heart was warm. "Find someone to renovate the house at Imperial Residence, and set up a children's room in pink."
Thomas loved this task. Since joining, he had never been this happy, as if he had found a daughter himself. "Yes, Mr. Hearst, I'll find a designer right away and get it done as soon as possible!"
"Don't let the Hearst family know about this."
Otherwise, it might cause a storm.
"I understand."
After a night's rest, Ashley held Natalia's hand as they left the hotel and took a car to the old town.
Natalia wore a warm little coat, showing her clean little face. She curiously looked at the completely different architectural style of Coastal City's old town, her eyes sparkling with curiosity. "Auntie, this place is so beautiful and unique! It's much prettier than Dragon Soaring Avenue."
Ashley proudly said, "Because this is the most authentic traditional ancient architecture, with many years of history."
Natalia looked up with endless anticipation, "Can we come back here in the future? Grandpa, grandma, dad, mom, auntie, and my little brother, can we all come back?"
Ashley couldn't guarantee it, but she hoped for that day, "As long as our family works hard, we will."
"Great! Then let's buy a wooden house here!"
Ashley smiled and rubbed her head. The wooden houses here were cultural heritage sites.
Walking along the familiar stone-paved road, memories surged in.
She and Damian had walked here side by side.
It was in this old town that she was almost killed, and Damian suddenly appeared to save her.
That short period left a deep mark on her life. Revisiting the place made her realize how deeply the memories were engraved.
Things had changed, and she couldn't help but feel a surge of emotions.
Finally, they found Martin's house along the stone-paved road.
In the deep autumn, the courtyard looked even more old and dilapidated, with a thick layer of fallen leaves outside the door.
A wooden sign hung on the wooden door, "Gone on a long trip, return date uncertain."
