Chapter 104

Samcheong-dong Neighborhood
Ong Se-Ri Residence

Absently Ong Se-Ri scrolled through websites on her laptop, trying to get a clear shot of those of concern.

Black tinted windows in the vehicles prevented photographers from getting any useable shots of those within.

The red carpet’s sole attention was on Myo Mi-Sun, not those protecting her.

And Ong Se-Ri’s people reported Myo Mi-Sun hadn’t been to NuStarr or Hu Jae’s residence in weeks so they couldn’t get the desired photos.

“How is it you were there and yet you have no pictures from the event?” Ong Se-Ri asked.

That was more concerning than Myo Mi-Sun hiding away somewhere that they couldn’t follow her to or find.

Manager Jang Min glared at her. “Let me think,” she sneered. “Could it have been because the little brat brought a billionaire computer hacker on the red carpet with her? It doesn’t take an overly active imagination to know how it is that no one at the reception got pictures or video of what happened. Every mobile phone and digital device was rebooting over and over until they left the reception. The same with the theater’s security feed.”

Ong Se-Ri chuckled. “And you simply let them attack your precious star, huh?”

Jang Min shrugged. “He had it coming and worse. They showed great restraint, if you must know. Once this project is wrapped, I’m dropping that annoying child,” she grumbled under her breath.

“Really?”

She nodded. “Hwang Sang-Hee has talent, but it requires that he actually pulls his head out of his ass and makes an effort. Now, though, there’s no saving his career. Sang-Hee has made too many enemies in the industry and there’s no coming back from that.”

“You mean Dae-Ho specifically?” Ong Se-Ri scoffed with a chuckle. “That little boy has you scared?

“It isn’t funny,” Jang Min snapped at her. “Chairman Hu got to where he is because of his ability to make and keep everyone happy; he knows which back to scratch in order to get what he wants. No one he represents has a negative thing to say about him and his business practices, and they are considered squeaky clean in whichever industries they are in. His predecessor though, he is everywhere and sees and keeps everything in a file, I know he does. I can’t even imagine what that little bastard has collected over the years. There’s no question he could, with very little effort, ruin the industry in South Korea. And right now his mind is set on ruining Sang-Hee, and that is one ship I will not go down with.”

“That has to be the smartest thing I have ever heard you say, Cousin,” Ong Se-Ri commented.

“Shut up,” Jang Min whined. “Didn’t your people get pictures of that brat and the guard you’re trying to identify drunk and dancing?”

“I did, and as you pointed out, they have a hacker in their pocket,” she reminded her. “And the photographer’s residence was broken into that night and all of his flash drives were stolen and hard drives erased with rather large magnets. Coincidence?”

“Not likely,” Jang Min said with a chuckle. “It’s rather low tech, but it works.”

Ong Se-Ri made a mocking face. “Whoever did it was able to avoid all cameras and got around the security system without trigging or disabling it. It was impressive, but it wasn’t the hacker; too low tech as you pointed out. Perhaps it’s the man we’re trying to identify?”

That, actually made sense and wasn’t something they had thought about until mentioning it now.

“I’m really starting to dislike Myo Mi-Sun even more than before,” Ong Se-Ri said, kicking herself in the butt for not thinking of that sooner.

“That’s a given,” Jang Min agreed. “Perhaps it isn’t coincidence that we can’t find any clear photos of her bodyguards because they have been purposely removed. On K-Drama Drama dot com, the slideshow is missing pictures. It goes from slide 79 to 82, 85 to 92. Each photo they are showing of Myo Mi-Sun is only a partial photo of the area, it’s been cropped,” she said.

Ong Se-Ri pulled up the website then scrolled through the slideshow to confirm what her cousin was suggesting. “Huh, I didn’t notice that. How do you get one up digitally on someone that has a billionaire hacker in their back pocket, who owns the patents on every APP and code that is running pictures and stories of her?”

Jang Min shrugged, making a face. “I haven’t a clue.”

“Why not go low tech?” Ong Se-Ri suggested. “Place cameras around the set, in hair and makeup, wardrobe… Old style cassette videotape that can’t be hacked,” she offered.

Jang Min smirked. “I nearly forgot how genius you think you are, Cousin.”

“One of us has to be,” Ong Se-Ri smugly informed her.

“Don’t forget who it was that picked you up out of the gutter when you burned every bridge in the industry, Cousin,” Jang Min warned.

Ong Se-Ri snorted. “How could I when you remind me of it every day?”

“I remind you so you don’t forget that I can easily put you back in that gutter, Cousin,” she said, her tone polite but edged with a threat. “You have made a good life for yourself at the expense of those in the industry, especially at the expense of Myo Mi-Sun, but if that is all you can do then you are useless to me.”

The irritated reporter didn’t say anything and continued to glare at her cousin.

“We need to get in front of this now that we’re way behind it,” she continued. “No longer do we need to worry about the reputation of that ass I represent. Once filming is complete, he’s dropped, so that gives us many opportunities that we would have never initially took due to risk to my client. I want to know who it is that is protecting Myo Mi-Sun, and I want you to find how we can exploit it since your little photographer was unable to do that. Do you understand?”

Ong Se-Ri nodded. “I’ll get the cameras for you to set up around the set, and you’ll need to have someone that hasn’t been served with a no contact order from the courts to act as your assistant so they can help you with replacing tapes without causing suspicion.”

That would be useful.

Jang Min looked contemplative. “I have a couple of aspiring actresses that couldn’t make it as models I could utilize for that purpose. They aren’t the brightest, but they are hungry for representation and will blend in.”

“Just make sure they aren’t Myo Mi-Sun fans,” Ong Se-Ri sneered.
