Chapter 113

Seoul, Korea
Parking Garage

The breath Rain was holding rushed out of her and she felt lightheaded all of a sudden.

That was so romantic!

No one had ever just held her hand before, or kissed it so tenderly as Kita had, without cameras and a script being involved.

How many times had she dreamt of a man doing that? Of a handsome man wanting to hold her hand without cameras or a script, and simply wanted to hold it because she was a woman and she was a man…

A man that kept effortlessly stealing her breath with little effort, and that caused her knees to shake, and butterflies to flood her stomach.

That shouldn’t happen from merely a man’s presence.

It was a kiss that was supposed to do that, wasn’t it? That’s how the writers always had it, and how the scripts always set it up, and little girl’s dream of.

But Kita kept doing it with simply a caress of the little finger against the back of her hand to let her know he was there, or when he rested his hand on her back, or when he simply looked at her with a softness in his expression that was as foreign to her as it was him…

It was the making of a K-Drama, Rain knew, but what wasn’t scripted was what Kita left her with.

Rain turned her hand over and looked at the small knife Kita had placed in her hand.

“Huh, apparently he wants me to spill blood and embrace being a villain,” Rain said, looking at the small, sheathed weapon curiously.

“Not exactly,” Will said in her ear, causing her to jump, startled, and she dropped the knife. “Most likely he gave you a push dagger. It’s small and efficient if used properly; jab into the kidney, liver or throat then twist, or use it to slice the inside of a thigh, or jab it under the armpit. Those are all kill spots,” he amusingly informed her.

Rain’s eyes were wide and she looked at the small, seemingly non-threatening weapon she picked up off the floor. “That was strangely specific, Will,” she said.

“I know. Sorry if I freaked you out. Just keep it on you in case something happens… I might have accidentally brought a kidnapping Russian hit squad with revenge and murder on the mind to your doorstep when I escorted you down the red carpet. Oops?” he offered.

She laughed, thinking he was kidding, but a part of her knew he was serious.

“The Russian from the bar?” Rain surmised.

“One in the same,” Will confirmed. “There was an incident with some hackers that were trying to do some bad stuff to good people and I stopped them. They took it personally, and sent a hit squad after me. Lula and her father took care of it… It was a family event, a father-daughter bonding moment with a freakishly impressive body count.”

Her eyes widened.

“I figured the group that sent them, once they received the heads of their hit squad in boxes on their doorsteps, got the memo not to mess with me or my bodyguard,” he said with a snort. “Creative, and it should have worked, and did for a while. But when they saw us together on the red carpet they assumed I was your boyfriend so they were going to target you… They are too terrified to target the one my heart truly belongs, and with good reason.”

That was a something Rain could agree with the hackers on since Lula terrified her as well.

“I’m sure Lula is longing to quit at this point, or she wants a raise,” Rain said, tucking the dagger in her pocket.

Softly Will sighed. “You have no idea. A part of her, of all those of the Blanchar-Yasuhiro bloodline, love the potential for death in heroic, or bloody, ways. I never understood that about them, but when you meet their parents you’ll understand.”

That, Rain hadn’t thought about.

Why would she meet their parents?

More specifically, why would she meet Kita’s parents?!

They weren’t dating or in contemplation of marriage, so why would parents be involved?

Unless she missed something.

“Can they hear us?” Rain asked, looking out the window to the others.

“No. It’s just the two of us right now,” Will assured her. “I got tired of listening to Lula so I took my laptop to the bathroom and locked myself in here. Kita and Lucien are going over the layout of the building I sent them and putting together various exit strategies… Do you want some advice?”

“On what?” she guardedly asked.

“Kita.”

That she wasn’t expecting.

“What do you mean?” Rain whispered, looking out the window to the man that was splitting his attention between his brother and her.

Will chuckled, humorlessly. “You’ve done the impossible with him, Seon Rain,” he said. “You made him human, which terrifies his sister.”

Rain blushed and with a small smile.

“And that’s why I have to say this,” Will said, all mirth stolen. “If Kita gets within reach of Gang Moon, he will kill him.”

The smile fell from Rain’s face.

“Lula is terrified that Kita will act rashly and do something stupid like kill your ex in front of the media, thousands of fans, and you,” he said, in a rush. “As much as everyone jokes about how you can’t stand your ex, Kita would put him in the ground if you simply asked him to. You have to be careful with him. If you sense that line starting to get crossed with Kita, especially on the carpet, if you feel him pulling away from you when Gang Moon is around, do whatever you can to wrap yourself around him to stop him. And that includes, worst case situation, using that push dagger on your bodyguard. Do you understand?”

It was a struggle, and it took dozens of attempts, but eventually Rain swallowed the baseball sized lump that had formed in her throat. She looked out the window and her eyes met the intense hazel-green eyes of the man looking at her intently, and she nodded her understanding.

Retirement was looking more and more agreeable by the second.
